We don't need high-speed rail, we need conventional rail

Even if you tripled gas in the next five years, cars aren’t going anywhere.
Well if Trump passes those tariff's you'll see that sooner.

But to your point, I never said cars were going anywhere. What I said was, people like you would be whining for HSR. Unlike air or road travel. The cost per person for HSR is way cheaper. Which means the price of a ticket a from New York to Cali would be maybe 3 x's less than by air, and over all cheaper and fast than by driving.

That's the point.

Keep telling yourself you're against it.....stubbornness and stupidity seem to be your hallmark.

Something that I always notice. Railroads are nearly always empty, I rarely see an actual train. Roads on the other hand are always full of vehicles.

So it makes sense to rip up the tracks, send cars along the nice new roads thus created, level the stations and create car parks which are conveniently in town centers.
Make them exclusively for self driving cars, and troll the MAGATs who won't be allowed to use their lifted trucks.

What could go wrong?

This was tried in the 1970s. It led to the death of city centers and massive traffic jams. The trend now is to undo the damage done by 50 years of car-centric transit policy.
