We Have A New Pope!

Thanks, Cathleen. :)

To each their own.

While I've never claimed to own my existance to a "Higher Power", I have
always seen the dangers inherent to organized religion.

The Marquis de Sade, The Crusades, Salem Witch Hunts, Joan of Arc, The Roman/Catholic Empire, The British/Catholic Empire, Protestant vs. Catholisism, et al.

The deaths and murders in the name of "Religion"?

It makes one think.

yes it does... it makes one remember... or one should anyway...that these things were done my humans, mortal men, in the name of religion.
Certainly not urged on by nor ordained by God (or whatever you want to call Him).

Which is why I don't subscribe to any one organized religion, nor am I religious. I am simply a Christian... I have a deep faith in and love for God.

However, I think this thread was created to celebrate, not debate ;)

So tactfully stated. Another admiration for you.

The Pope goes to New York. He is picked up at the airport by a limousine. He looks at the beautiful car and says to the driver, "You know, I hardly ever get to drive. Would you please let me?"

The driver is understandably hesistant and says, "I'm sorry, but I don't think I'm supposed to do that."

But the Pope persists, "Please?" The driver finally lets up. "Oh, all right, I can't really say no to the Pope."

So the Pope takes the wheel, and boy, is he a speed demon! He hits the gas and goes around 100 mph in a 45 zone. A policeman notices and pulls him over.

The cop walks up and asks the Pope to roll down the window. Startled and surprised, the young officer asks the Pope to wait a minute. He goes back to his patrol car and radios the chief.

Cop: Chief, I have a problem.

Chief: What sort of problem?

Cop: Well, you see, I pulled over this guy for driving way over the speed limit but it's someone really important.

Chief: Important like the mayor?

Cop: No, no, much more important than that.

Chief: Important like the governor?

Cop: Wayyyyyy more important than that.

Chief: Like the president?

Cop: More.

Chief: Who's more important than the president?

Cop: I don't know, but he's got the Pope driving for him!

Niightshade, I forgot to say one important thing - welcome to Lit. :) It is a quite a place, I hope you enjoy it.

I agree so very much about the death and war in the name of a religion. That isn't faith to me. I don't think (and don't really want to) understand that. In my mind, heart and spirit there is but one God/Higher Power/el al and to fight among ourselves is wrong. Man has committed horrid things to each other because of their beliefs, all over the eath it still goes on.

In my opinion, people of extremes are the catalysts but how do they become so? I wonder what it is inside that can take two people in opposite directions to the point of killing the other over a thought. It signifes a weakness in my mind, not to mention a deviant thought process.

I guess I see faith as a very personal thing. It means something different for all and the manner in which it manifests within ourselves is personal too. Intolerance for another's thoughts or actions I can understand but the extremes are difficult for me to grasp.

It sure does make you think. (Like I need another thing to ponder.... it's chronic I tell ya.)

You're welcome....but NO NO NO I LOVE to discuss (you're new, you don't that yet....lol). I love sharing thoughts and talking about things, especially in a tolerant manner.

Btw, you can call me Cate (or whatever variation thereof ;))
