No, I say it is the fault of the American Media for no analysis the candidates and directing them to real issues that effect the 99%. Trump has not been called out for his bullshiting by the media. Clinton has not been questioned about her advocacy of "Regime Change" internationally while we need regime change in a lot of our states and counties.

The media has been focused on a "Horse Race" between two of the oldest candidates ever sent to the National Stage to sell fish wrap. NYT, WaPo, and the rest have no business claiming they are capable of leading American Journalism when they have coddled the candidates by softballing fluff and do-da, instead of focusing on the economy and specific proposals to to improve our infrastructure and prosecute inept Governors who fuck over their constituents.

Th media has not addressed the issue of the Corporate take over of our elections and Government. They do not address the issue of Police brutality, unless there is a riot and then they soft sell the root causes.

To borrow a thought from the conservatives - what we need is more competition. I agree that it is the "media" and their lack of an ability to approach the issues of the day with a critical consciousness that is one of the many root causes of our present situation.

Let's talk about the cure. What is needed is more media outlets. A small business investment in media, if you will. The same waht that the answer to too big to fail is more banks.

Last time I checked a globe, Earth was round. If we draw a line around the middle ('Equator') we can distinguish North vs South. But East vs West is rather more arbitrary. Where do we draw that dividing line? Hint: it's pretty jagged and disconnected.

*I* will say so. In common usage, "The West" means industrialized first-world Eurocentric nations. Israel is of The West; states lying west of Israel in Africa are not, and neither is Russia, which is also west of Israel. USA and Canada are of The West; most of Latin America is not.

A similar term is Global North, which doesn't mean north of the Equator, but rather The West without necessarily being Eurocentric. Add-in Russia, Japan, S.Korea -- these are of the Global North. And so are Oz and NZ. China and Brazil seem headed that way.

IMHO 'First-World' and 'The West' and 'Global North' all relate to prosperity vs poverty levels. Parts of Mexico, China, Brazil, India etc are 1st world; most parts are 3rd world. None are 'western'. All aspire to join the Global North.
