If it IS you're admitted intention to continue hostilities from right where they left off, might i suggest you put up an "Ultimate Showdown" thread, an arena for your combat, and have one spot for ALL the unpleasantness to occur.

Pretending that you don't understand the difference between a "chat room" and what this board was intended to be, to launch a "pre-emptive strike" and break the "cease fire" seems like needlessly convoluted subterfuge.

The hospital is too far from the cottage to be of any use, so I took too much Benedril (i do have a well-stocked medicine chest) and hoped my throat wouldn't swell completely shut, which, obviously, it didn't.

It hurt a lot. I don't recommend it and I for one will never drink beer outdoors from a can again.

However, I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the 'chat room' issue. As a person who reads every new post on here every day, it can get time-consuming and exhausting to read the one-liners. On the other hand, they're usually friendly, funny, and cheerful. How could I, in good conscience, ask that people cease posting them? I mean, cheerfulness and a sense of friendly community is what makes this forum what it is.

I'm sorry if I'm taking this thread out of context (personal quibbles and all), but since I haven't spoken up yet on the subject, I figured I'd go on the record to say that it's nice that y'all have good things to say about each other. My only concerns are:

1. Repetition ad nauseum
2. Possible alienation of newbies (who might be just plain overwhelmed by the speed and irrelevance of personal one-liners)
3. Credibility based only on post count (like politicians who get votes based sheerly on name recognition)

Still, none of these is a major problem yet. Just things to watch out for, if the forum continues in its current direction.

It doesn't say no chat, it says no chatroom BDSM--in other words, this isn't a forum for "BDSM: the online roleplaying game" as it's played in a wide variety of web venues.

I'm sure you've probably seen at least a few of these places, but in case you haven't, I'll explain further. Here's a little bit of dialogue which could be snipped at random from most any chatboard BDSM room (like chatropolis, the Dungeon, etc.), assuming you waded through and skipped over about 15 versions of "hello" flying back and forth at any given moment. I didn't believe people who told me how low the bar was for conversation in those places--until I went and checked out about ten of them across 3 or 4 days.

So, by way of illustration--a fictional but pretty typical example of the "chatroom type BDSM dialogue" mentioned in the Sticky:

shy: *peeks out* "Hello, E/everyone"
Lord___: "Welcome, shy___."
shy: "Greetings, Sir. i'm sorry to interrupt, but can i ask You a question?"
Lord: "Yes, little one. What is it?"
shy: "Sir, if I promise to be very quiet, may I sit at your feet?"
Lord: "Yes you may kneel by my side, slut, but don't piss me off or I'll whip you till you bleed. I'm a real Master, and I only take true slavebitches"
shy: "Ooh...Thank you, Sir."

It gets old quickly if you want to have any kind of sustained conversation, as it's a constant barrage of hellos and goodbyes, and--like the word "chat" suggests--it's often the most shallow possible level of interaction. Also, the version of BDSM living there resembles no real interaction between actual people in the real world that I've EVER seen. That doesn't mean there's anything *wrong* with those places, it's just not what we want to create here. There are lots of such places. There are very few places where you can have a sustained conversation (the advantage of threads vs. free-for-all) about BDSM and related issues as it's practiced between actual bodies.

Now, you'll further notice that the Sticky doesn't actually FORBID even that narrowly defined variety of chat, it just discourages it by way of differentiating this Forum from the more common variety of online-specific fantasy BDSM chat. As everybody probably has figured out by now, preventing people from engaging in *any* casual dialogue is not only impossible, but it makes for an inhospitable and kinda monotonous forum. Nobody is even pretending that we don't ever talk off-topic, engage in shallow banter and pointless flirtation, and do all kinds of other frivolous things. We (as Mods, posters of the sticky) just try to keep the more nuanced conversations and skin-to-skin concerns at the center of the Forum's life, as that's the part it is most difficult to find elsewhere online.

I had a blood vessel in my right eye burst (hear that, b?) on Friday and I'm under deadline pressure on a professional project right now. So, I haven't had time and inclination to address the etiquette issue in the Sticky. It's not forgotten, just delayed.

And, having now provided reasonable responses to your allegedly sincere (but usually barbed) questions on quite a few occasions, I still find it difficult to decide whether your reading comprehension or an apparent tendency to compulsive snideness is the primary cause of your continual problems making sense of the forum's guidelines and contents. Any insights you'd like to share on that topic?
