What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Tin Sonzya - Mech Areya\Тінь Сонця - Меч Арея \ The Sword of Arei

- some Ukrainian metal

Duran Duran is there something I should say (please please me now), Ringo Star Photograph, Grass Roots Midnight Confessions, Foo Fighters Big Me, CCR who'll stop the rain, Fleetwood Mac Sarah, Jim Croce I'll have to to say I love you in song, Wild Cherry Play that Funky Music, and Fog Hat Slow Ride.

I was supposed to be writing, but in gathering a few bits of music to set the tone for this next story, I fell down a rabbit hole of watching live versions of Impossible Germany by Wilco.

I will never, ever tire of watching/listening to Nels Cline play the guitar. The man does absolutely incredible things but makes it look almost effortless. I'll take him over your most acclaimed technical shredders any day of the week.

Can't make up my mind which version I like better, hard to decide
- Coolio's original

Or the Like a Storm cover.....

Good music/bad music

Good stuff: Lord of the Lost covering Iron Maiden's Children Of The Damned.
Love the original, love what LOTL did with it. Didn't expect the beautiful falsetto scream near the end either. Thanks for introducing me to this fascinating band, @Bramblethorn.

Bad stuff: Amon Amarth - The Great Heathen Army
Okay, not truly bad. They know how to play and the production works in that you can hear everything clearly. Bad as in "wow, they are really at odds with themselves". You see, Amon Amarth used to play Death Metal with varying amounts of melodies, usually in their guitar solos. Their stuff was heavy and most importantly, played with enough drive and passion to kick you wide awake. I really loved them. On the new album, I hear Saxon, Iron Maiden, "Black Album" Metallica, a lot of Manowar pathos and a band hamstrung by a singer who is one of the best Death Metal grunters in the business. What I hear very little of is Amon Amarth. The few death metal riffs are retreads of their own back catalogue and the new stuff sounds limp and tired and in desperate need of a clean vocalist who can lay down soaring melodies.
A pity.

Very welcome! I'm really happy for them that the tour with Maiden is finally going ahead - I remember they were in fanboy heaven back in 2019 when they got the offer, and then two years of cancellations and disappointment. Can't be a lot of musicians out there who can say they've toured with both Iron Maiden and David Hasselhoff.
