RHAPSODY IN BLUE

My favorite metal mag was in the mailbox yesterday. So my lady love and I have browsed the record reviews and found a few things we've put onto our shopping list.

Amorphis - Halo

New album by Finland's Finest. This time with a bit more uptempo stuff and - much to Litfan's chagrin - more death growls amidst the beautifully melancholic melodic stuff. That one was an insta-buy.

At The Movies - Soundtrack To Your Life Vol. 1/Vol. 2
https://youtu.be/Qzg6WuHjZQk (there are full playlists of both albums on YT - very recommended to watch!)

An all-star project featuring musicians of Pretty Maids, Therion and Soilwork doing covers of '80s and '90s movie songs. Compared to, for example, Exit Eden, this is very fun and lighthearted. The vocalists (Björn Strid of Soilwork and Night Flight Orchestra and Linnèa Vikströn of Therion) are fantastic and the covers themselves are very tastefully done - a far cry from the "let's put powerchords over everything" most metal covers tend to be.

Gate - Nord

Something TOTALLY different - Norwegian folk. Very well played, but a bit too off-kilter for my taste. The singer has a very distinct, sharp voice. For those who like Myrkur in their non-metallic moments. I prefer my female vocalists with a bit more warmth in their pipes. Still, fantastic "mind voyage" stuff.

The new Star One seems to get over well with the critics. I'll reserve my judgement once I've heard the full thing next week.

For those looking for some more '80s flashbacks, there's a band called "Out Of This World" who pick up where Europe were on... "Out Of This World" in 1988. Very fun stuff, if a bit sugary. Still, might be the cure for the Corona Blues.

Drowning Pool - Bodies

Well, now I have to listen to "It's Raining Men."

Jennifer Rush: Nobody move

OMFG, it's been AGES! My dad loved her and so she was part of my childhood's soundtrack. To be honest, this hasn't aged as well as "Ring Of Ice" or her other, more rock-tinged songs - still, that was a powerful nostalgia hit.

Thanks, HP.
