What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Bits and pieces from the new Jethro Tull album.

Like I've said to Litfan recently: Those old geezers still know how to rock.", considering how good the new albums by Kansas, Blue Öyster Cult, Styx, Billy Idol and Tull have turned out. Even Bryan frickin' Adams hasn't lost much of his touch, even though the drum on his new single sound rather programmed and cheap.

The Zealot Gene

Jethro Till

holy crap! Tull is back with a vengeance. Fantastic album. My leg wants to bend up and my foot wants to press against the side of my other knee. Then my joints say "yeah, right. You wish."

Welcome to the Planet

Big Big Train

New release from this wonderful band and sadly, the last with their incredible singer, David Longdon, who tragically died in November.

I wouldn't have noticed that Tull was back had it not been for our new favorite classic rock station, which actually has some newsworthy music news in between the music. What's next? Gabriel touring with Genesis again? (Who are set to do ONE LAST ROUND this year. I'll believe it once I see it. Can Collins even walk straight?)

And you, dear friend, shouldn't tax your poor joints like that. Walking before running, right? :)

Collins walk straight? I can't even walk straight. Wouldn't be able to run straight either....

Interesting thing about the up coming Tull tour, when Ian Anderson decided to record a new album for whatever reason he didn't want to work with Martin Barre, his guitarist pretty much from the beginning. Barre has since formed his own band and is touring the fiftieth anniversary of Aqualung. So fans can get two different Tull shows for their money.

Maybe they saw the split and angst work for Pink Floyd and Roger Waters and said, "Hey, let's see if it works for us."

They all get royalties from sales of the back catalogue, so no-one loses.

Sounds a bit like Pete and Roger on the latest Who album - vocals recorded separately in a different studio, brought together in the mix.

Yeah from a lot of old rockers I hear them comparing being in a band to being married. And the divorces are just as messy.

Or worse even. CCR anyone? Feels like Fogarty is STILL on the warpath. Or Simon and Garfunkel. "Dysfunctional" isn't even starting to describe their relationship.

As for what I've been listening to:

I've suffered through "The Pick of Destiny" by Tenacious D after some people likened it to "Wayne's World" in terms of good rock movies.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? "Pick of Destiny" had two good songs (Kickapoo and the final number with the Devil), the rest was... *sigh* worse than those spoof flicks like "Scary Movie". I wish I could get the one hour and something back I wasted on it. Maybe I'm too German for that type of laughs. It was dreadful. The only good things were Dio as himself and Dave Grohl as the Devil.

That's a great mix, Lori. I'm impressed.

Pandora just served-up the Navy Hymn from Crimson Tide. Always brings me to tears since I buried my ex-Navy father at sea to it.

Makes for some interesting musical chemistry when people have a relationship breakup and then make music together. Seemed to work pretty well for Eurythmics and Fleetwood Mac, musically at least.

That's true, and by many accounts Keith Richards thought Jagger was a bit of a twat at times, but those guys keep on keeping on. And it's not like they need the money!
