I went to mail the cardigan, mittens, and beanie I made to a customer in England. UPS wanted 400 dollars to ship it! USPS was 50 dollars. Phew! That's a lot of money. Anyway, crocheting is a ton of fun.

We did 1 and 1/2 week there in '17. Horrible coming back. I took the full 2 wks off work and it still sucked. I feel for yaIām back working after a week in Hawaii.

I grew up in a tourist town, and I know the stresses it can cause on the locals.
In Hawaii so many of the tourists from the mainland are already awake at dawn looking for decadent breakfast service. When Iām there, I see the stress and irritation behind behind the plastered on smiles. I see the local working stiffs struggling to afford the basics, many without a hope of owning their own island homes that haoles buy up for investment properties and put up on Airbnb. Am I just too woke?
Most of the time Iāve spent in Hawaii Iāve been working on blue collar projects. Iāll show up at a breakfast line at a shop in my work clothes and the person behind the counter will take a moment to catch their breath and give me a real smile and say āhey, what can I get ya?ā Going as a tourist is a whole different experience.
