I Started reading Hamilton, by Ron Chernow, last week (I've never seen the musical production but I know some tidbits about the Ten Dolla Man). I just finished Grant by the same author two weeks ago, 10/10 would recommend if you have 3 months to spare for him. It might not take long for some, but I was a busy woman the last few months. I also read Dear Debbie by Frieda McFadden as a palate cleanser, and then the audio verson of her Book the Intruder but I polished those off in a few days. Gobble Gobble. Surprisingly, Hamilton isn't as good as Grant, but it's inspiring me to write about male friendship.

His biography of Washington and then Grant as well; both excellent

The Count of Monte Cristo (still)
And, when I need a break from it, Gulag by Anne Applebaum

I agree with your recommendations on Ron Chernow’s books. I read both Grant and Hamilton and give them both top grades.

I read lots of biographies of important figures in American history and in choosing each, I try to select those that generally the most acclaimed by historians for their thoroughness of the research, accuracy, and balance. The challenge authors have in achieving those attributes is making the book readable and interesting. As one who has written a couple of fairly short books on 19th century California Gold Rush history, I know how difficult that is.

Somehow Chernow has managed to overcome those challenges. I found it very easy to read every paragraph without having to slow down and re-read parts of them, and I was able to read more than 10 or 15 pages without feeling fatigued. They’re true page turners. I got through each in a few weeks and have retained most of them in my memory bank even though years have passed since I them.

I finally finished the entire Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. It's been a while since I've dedicated myself to an entire series in that way, especially one with so many effing books, but overall, I enjoyed it. I'm going on a cruise in a little over 2 weeks, so I need to figure out my next series to read.

Just finished reading Creation Lake, which I thought was great. Next up, starting tonight, The House in the Cerulean Sea.
