Was it the apple thing, the sex thing or Eve getting pregnant?

umm wasn't it the apple thing? takin the forbidden fruit from the tree and eating it...

"I hold religion but a childish toy,
And the only sin is ignorance."

-Christopher Marlowe

Sorry, I had to do it.

The "original sin" was changing the focus of faith away from God to self. This was the origin of Lucifer's rebellion in heaven. This was the origin of Adam's (and Eve's) disobedience in Eden. Romans 14:23 says "anything that is not based on faith is sin"

Pyper Great Quote!!

in your sig line as well as the thread lol

Either way I think they should have gotten some leniency. "be fruitful and multiply" was a bit confusing at best.

MP ;)

I think it was the apple (forbidden fruit) thing. Basically, not following God's request.

It was the disobedence to what God told them by eating of the forbidden fruit. They were man and wife (mates) God had given them that before they ate the fruit so the sex and pregnancy would not have been seen as sin.

And men complain about how hard they have it....
and blame it all on women for the 'original sin'

HELLO take a look around and see what we go thru damnit

You seem to have quite a chip on your shoulder about religion, Pyper. What gives?

What? Was it the quote combined with my sig line? Just my personal philosophy is all.

That's frightening.

Yes it is. I wasn't expressing my opinion on the matter... I was just answering the question.

My opinion? Its a fucking book! Fiction. Not all that well written either, too many inconsistencies.

Disobedience...

eating the apple when told not to...and as far as I am concerned Adam was a weak, lily-livered panty-waist...couldn't the guy say no when she offered the fruit to him? And what was up with him blaming Eve when God came to them asking "Where art thou?" and asked why they were hiding and why they ate of the fruit....Ol' Adam said, Hey, man it's her fault she made me eat it....it's that woman. Man couldn't take responsibility for his actions then and still can't! MUAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH :p

Okay, delayed reaction to Dr. Clozoff's post.

I've gotten some grief on this board for being openly atheist. Everybody seems to want to know why I am so angry.

Well I'm not angry dammit!!!!

Hehe, just kidding.

A common misconception about atheists is that we are all somehow bound up in our bitterness because there is no God. Well, I ain't bitter, I ain't angry, I'm darn happy in fact. I just love to debate, and I have no qualms about speaking my mind on a religious matter. I hope that clears things up. :)

um....i beleave the 'apple' was from the tree of Knowledge...

i'm not very good at finding the exact chapter and verse but, afterwards the knew they were naked...

so as i see it they looks around to see if Todd is watching Evolved into thinking human beings...

OK Thanks...

...it's just that I met someone last night who ventured the opinion that the original sin was Eve having children and that explained the celibacy of the Catholic Church.

Just made me think is all...

No worries, Mink, he went to bed after a long night of debating with me. Guess what? I'm going to hell, but it's the cushy layer of hell!

Didn't mean that. Just meant that I've noticed you go out of your way to profess your atheism and disdain for religion at every possible opportunity. Were you trying to be inflammatory with the Marlowe quote? Are all religious believers naive children playing with a toy?

Umm, yes? :)

Okay, okay. I try not to be inflammatory, I really do, but I can't help it. If you'll notice, I try to stay out of the political threads...in case I really get myself into trouble!

I imagine it's hard to be consistent when there are so many different authors.

When I was little, I asked my fanatically devout aunt "Who wrote the Bible?" She was horrified at my ignorance. But really, what could she expect from an unbaptised little bastard like myself? I can still count the number of times I've been to church on one hand.

Well, I strongly disagree about the merit of religious belief, but I respect anyone who has reasoned beliefs and can defend them. I just don't see the point of taking a religious thread where someone asks a simple doctrinal question and trying to escalate it into God vs. no-God donnybrook. There are people a lot smarter than me that are atheists and there are smarter theists than you. Anyone who claims to have absolute knowledge either way is guilty of extreme hubris. A person that belabors his atheism seems to suffer from the same intellectual insecurity as a feverish believer intolerant of nonbelievers. They're two sides of the very same coin.

I didn't try to turn this thread into God vs. no God. PpMan asked what the original sin was and I gave my opinion in the words of a great writer.

And I don't think I belabor my atheism. Why am I reminded of people who say, "I don't mind gay people, as long as they don't act gay."

Holy cow, I certainly am getting myself into a lot of trouble with different people tonight.
