I've never seen any of the self professed conservatives on this board or the GB define who or what is a "true conservative", only who is not.

So the question:
Who is a "true conservative"?

Answer: it's a Republican who wins.

Dubya was a "true conservative" until he left his party in shambles, at which point he became this big-spending apostate.

Romney was the next tribune of the True Faith ... but then he lost. Lost to the black guy, no less. At which point he became a RINO foisted upon the rank-and-file (which had chosen him over Santorum, Gingrich, the pizza salesman etc, but never mind that).

A "true conservative," in their view, can never lose; and "true conservatism," as a governing philosophy, can never fail. So if he loses, he must not have been a true conservative; and since GWB failed, he must not have been one either.
