What made you smile or laugh today? Part IV

I’m going through my belongings for the upcoming move. Among other cool (ie. nerdiest you can imagine) books, I have a morphological dictionary of Tundra Nenets. Definitely a keeper!

You never know when you might have an urgent need to see how to conjugate a verb in imperfective probabilitative aorist or hortative. I can’t even imagine how embarrassing it’d be if I used superprobabilitative instead of hyperprobabilitative. This book is practically a lifesaver.

And of course Internet searches would have no idea how to respond to those conjugations.

I'm finding all reference books have become such superfluous baggage in our lives. But what happens if we have an emp bomb that wipes out all technology for the foreseeable future? Dammit, I'll need those how-tos, rhyming dictionaries and thesauri!

Superfluous maybe, but make me smile. It’s not like I’d ever need this info, in book form or internet form, just like I’ll never need a German teacher’s guide to teaching foreign languages from the 70s and I’ll definitely never need to read about the grammaticalization of words head and skull in Hungarian. But just having them makes me happy. ☺️

I’m not sure what your asking, but I think the answer is yes?

I mean, they just live here, like squirrels and bunnies and such. It’s not like they’re everywhere here, but they’re wild animals and aren’t anybody’s pet or anything like that. Is that what you meant? :D

Yes. Here, hedgehogs are pets. As far as I know they aren't in the wild in US.

Yes, they usually come out when it’s getting dark though.
We have one living in our garden, but we usually just see it a few times each summer.
Once when we were sitting out in the twilight, it came out and went right up to our cat and started smelling her. She was totally stressed out about it until she decided on a time tested problem solving technique, that is to ignore it all and pretend it didn’t happen.

Funny that hedgehogs and humans can problem solve in a similar manner! :)

Mild temps, and thunder. It's a porch afternoon.
I love porches.:)

I experienced thunder that made the ground shake for the first time in my life this weekend when I went looking for mushrooms and a rogue thunder that wasn't in the forecast just happened to find me. It was brief but heavy, I got soaked.

Also, I was pretty sure I was going to die. Wasn't a fan of the experience, 0/5.

Health-wise not my best day, but some adorable news made me smile. Cute distractions are the best.

This is fascinating. The daily thunderstorms shake our building regularly. I wouldn’t want to be outdoors in the middle of it. You were likely feeling the shockwave from a strike. I’m glad you’re safe!

I was flying a helicopter south of Beaumont one day, when a bolt of lightning dropped down from the clouds and hit the marsh. It was right there. Too damn close.

Island hopping, art and making plans for a gelato date with someone I’ve had a great time with in past.

In the morning, scrolling through a news feed, I saw a headline in a german language news site: Hacker wants to bar non-vaccinated from city’s leisure- and sprts facilities.
Morning not being my brightest time of the day, I pondered the interesting demands of hackers these days for several moments before realizing that Hacker was a name in this case.:D

I’ve been putting some artwork together for a client which is based around a full face shot of someone v important in their organisation.

Mr VIP has a frightening amount of nasal hair clambering out of one nostril which can clearly be seen in the photo they’d supplied.

Then I got a call from the client saying to put a hold on the job because they were doing some photoshop work on the image they’d sent and would send it through when they’d finished.

Phew! They’d noticed, without me having to say anything.

New image duly arrives - Mr VIP, still with all his nasal hair on show, but with a slightly different colour background behind his head…..

I’m definitely going to have to get this particular sign off in writing! :D

My boss. Being able to be frank with telling him "hey, I'm having trouble focussing this week and I'm trying to write this thing but I just end up staring blankly at the screen" and knowing he'll be supportive and helpful.
