the problem is, this is an argument/discussion with no ending
views will not be changed
we all have our ownthoughts on this
and I am hapy with that my friends

I think a healthy dose of disagreement is ok.
You're right, everyone does have their own views on this, and I like hearing from those that are different from my own.

Thank you for taking the time to listen
you agree ther eis a place for the flag in the right circumstances I hope, and the history of it should not die and wither
as the NAACP are intent on doing
they are trying to remove all traces, they even got at your state flag Georgia

I have written a lot of poems about the war, not all Confederate I might add
some cross over

BD, I don't disagree what you're saying. And I think it is imperative that the Civil War, the history of the Confederacy and the aftermath are taught in our schools here. Sadly, history sometimes gets distorted.

It's a part of my heritage. There are parts of the confederacy ideas with which I agree, parts with which I disagree.

But today, all too often people use the Confederate flag in the wrong way.

Yes, I agree with that. And I most certainly agree that the history of it should not wither away.

Have I ever mentioned to you that I'm an American history teacher? Probably not, but anyway, I teach it, I've lived it and it is tremendously important that we not forget it.

About the GA flag though...the one that was recently replaced was adopted in the 1950s as an opposition to Brown v Topeka BOE. It was a statement of racial segregation, not of remembering the heritage of the past.

And there you have it in a nutshell
the victors distorted the history
sad, but true
and very little is taught about the true horrors of reconstruction, nor will it ever, which is sad
ty for being so patient aand hearing me out

I do my part in teaching both sides of the issue. Students that I've had, at the very least, come away questioning actions from both the USA and the CSA.

I just adore a man who likes to talk about history.

Now I am impressed
history teacher
bows to you

The man who had the Alabama built was Roosevelts uncle, originally from Savannah, but family moved to Bulloch Hall in Roswell GA, when my man was in US Navy
he died in Liverpool, and is buried here, having been refused a pardon
On the centenary of his death, I arranged a commemoration and dedication ceremony, at his grave in Liverpool8 ladies, including an ex President, from the UDC came over here.

No need to be impressed with me..I have my history degrees and years of teaching it, but I certainly don't claim to have all the answers. :)

What is impressive to me is that you have the passion and desire to keep the history alive. Hats off to you for that.

without history

its been busy today

so i have not been able to chat any, probably ok since i have forgot everything i learned about history!!

Re: its been busy today

My apologies to you Pall
for hijacking your conversation
one more post only
a poem I wrote, about the fighting in the orchard at Shiloh
when the peach blossom turned red
I hope you do not mind joy,and that you read it

Blood Red Snow

Now tinged with blood
White petals fall
Such rosy coloured hue
As silently
They spiral down
Amid a sky pale blue

Through Tillmans Creek
They floated by
As souls forever lost
While soldiers asked
"Whats going on?
Oh why this mortal cost?"

The peach is sweet
Her blossom white
As virgin as can be
Yet Shiloh blood
Did stain her face
That day in history

Yes men did die
Beneath her coat
That carpet now pale red
No beauty here
For you to see
Just lonely men soon dead

This field so green
Now turned to mud
Beneath a blood red snow
Where men once young
And men once old
No more will ever go.

I went to lunch and came back to read some very good posts. Thanks BD and Joy.

Hey lj, good to see ya today.

Don't worry, I promise we won't turn this into a history only thread. :)

But, BD and Palleon, I really enjoyed the conversation.

BD..your poem is excellent..touching and very poignant. Thank you for sharing it here with us.

Nah, don't lurk, just take us off onto another topic..it's not like there are rules here about staying on one topic, ya know. :)

What a dull world we would have if we were in total agreement about every topic ever known. Being a reasearch scientist, I like to hear the differing points of view from others (it doesn't mean that I will concur), since that broadens my horizons and keeps me from being narrow-minded.

good morning to all

its another snowy day here in MO, not alot yet but its snowed some about every day this week, i am getting tired of it!! todays subject??? i am thinking !!!!

Good Morning, everyone.

AA, that was well said. Hearing differing views on a subject, weighing all sides of an issue, taking into account what others think--all of those make the world more interesting.

Hope y'all are doing well today, despite the weather you're having. It's another beautiful day here in Southern CA.

EJA

doing as well as i can be , considering the weather and such!! hope you are doing good today as well!!
