My mom is the only one in her family that lives in the North.

It amazes me when I visit the South that the war is still going on

We built the 2 Confederate raiders the Alabama, and the Florida, not 20 miles from where I now sit, and the man who had them built, was a Gergian joy

It's sad that there are parts of the south where you find that, but as a whole, I would have to disagree. There are those who still fly their confederate flags and that is just so wrong to me, but there are many, who agree that it's a part of the history, but life has moved on.

I agree it is only a small part that cant get past the history. We have a friend here that married a guy that flies that flag. We went there for a party and I hated hearing the "N" word being used so freely.

Ignorance

I, and most of my Southern friends would agree about that word
it is evil

I grew up hearing that much too often. I went to segregated schools until I was in middle school. I know people who have the "South will rise again" bumper stickers.....

We've made a lot of progress, but there is still a ways to go.

Dont leave, we are allowed to disagree. You dont know what living here is like when that flag is brought up, for so many people it means oppression and slavery.

I'm not sure what it is we're disagreeing about.

The flying of the flag?

and there lies the problem pall
the war was not about oppresion and slavery
but about States rights to decide their own future
slavery had very little to do with it at the beginning
Lincoln asked for 75.000 volunteers. to "Restore the Union"

and dont forget the NYC conscription riots

I have a full size flag, that was flown in my honor, over the Capitol Building in Columbia SC
with sertificates
for my work in researching Confederate history in the UK

Slavery was one of the issues of state's rights.
The Civil War was a war about economy, slavery was part of the economy.
There are a multitude of reasons why the war was fought.

The flag has its place in history, but many, maybe not all, of those people who still want to fly it today still believe in oppression and in white supremacy. Those are the people who are misguided.

I know that slavery was only a part of it, but for a large part of our current society it isnt like that. General Lee even said slavery had to end.

the problem is, this is an argument/discussion with no ending
views will not be changed
we all have our ownthoughts on this
and I am hapy with that my friends

See, you're looking at the flag in the right perspective...as a part of history.....not as a icon of supremacy. I have no disagreement with that.

yes he did
And Sam Grant gad slaves before and during the war
and when asked why
responded
"well we all need help dont we"
*Historical fact*

You have the flag and see it differently than alot of people here, that is ok. It is the bigots here that use that flag to try and show they are better

Definitely not that icon
there is the problem
the KKK stole it
distorted it
men died carrying that flag, for their beliefs, and some were black
it is historically proven there were black Confederates
they even have their own momument in DC
