When RP takes control IC thread

Dominic

I didn't hear a damn word anyone else was saying. My mind was flashing the red words repeatedly and my hearing was completely shot. I tried to clear my mind, but to know avail. Everyone was talking and I couldn't hear them.

I slowly stood up. God...my head.... I looked around and saw Sklyer turn to talk to me. I saw her mouth moving, but no words came out.

"What? I can't hear you Skyler. Speak up."

I can hear her fine, you looney. Slip said. What's wrong, you deaf or something?

I froze. Oh, shit. That couldn't be it. I couldn't be deaf....could I?

"Wolfbain root will help slow it, I can make a cream out of it. I can't cure what this is, but have enough skill to get something out of it. And yes it should be washed. I have failed to do that with just wanting to sit down."

I layed down on the cloak I was using for my sleeping bag. Trying not to fall asleep, though I was feeling alittle light headed. Didn't want to tell anyone though. That will pass, as I was laying down, noticed there was another root next to us, forgot what it was called, but I reconized it.

"This will work as well," said it almost as if I was talking to myself. Sitting up just enough to reach into my bag, getting out a few things that will smash this herb up, mixing it with water. The usual alchemy stuff.

"I need to wash this before applying this, besides it needs to sit for a few mins anyway and soak." I tried to stand up, but ended up with a limp instead. Played it off as my leg was just asleep. It wasn't, the burning was more intense as the night air hit it.

"You better get going, the sun will be up in a few hours, I'll be fine till then."

Started to slowly make my way down to the stream where the fresh water was.

Jasleth

He wasn't sure why Dominic was looking at him like that. Like he was seeing a ghost or something. The blood idea hadn't been that bad. However, then Kryss started to limp toward the stream. Jas watched her a second, then nodded to Skyler and Dominic. "You guys take care of the antidote...I'll keep an eye on things here, okay?"

He caught up with Kryss easily, his awkward gait making him wince. She usually moved so easily...it was painful to see her like this. Offering a silent prayer that he wasn't getting himself in more trouble, he deftly swung close and picked Kryss up into him arms. "Sorry about this, but Skyler said you shouldn't move." "I should have asked first, but I don't want you to get hurt anymore." He grinned at her, aware of himself flushing a bit as he did so. "Let me help you, Kryss." "For the rest of the night, at least, you have your own Prodigious Manservant." "Whatever you need, I'll get." "How's that sound?"

"Jasleth, I don't know what you've read of vampires, but as far as I know, No I can't inject blood into a person. I should be fine alone as well especially if something is wrong with Dominic."

"Damn this shit...never in her time playing did anything like this happen. Why in the hell did it have to happen now?"

"Try and find the wolfbain, and keep your money, we may need it later."

She looked to Dominic, a look of worry passed in her eyes. She was concerned when he mentioned he couldn't hear her. She reached out and touched him briefly and spoke up abit." Are you alright, what is wrong?"

Dominic

"Skyler, I can't hear a word you're saying." I shook my head. This can't be right. I couldn't have lost my hearing, could I? The game wouldn't allow that, would it?

Dominic, do you have cotton in your ears? She's talking as plain as day. Slip asked.

Slip...I think I've gone deaf.

Deaf. Now that's the most absurd thing I ever...you are, aren't you? Slip's voice betrayed some worry.

"Skyler? I think...I think I'm deaf." I said eventually.

Skyler

"This was getting to be a real pain...whatever could go wrong was."

She looked really worried now. "Jasleth... to hell with going back in there, we need to get both Dominic and Kryss back to town and quickly. The cave will still be here tomorrow and the next day, we can't take chances on losing anyone now. Especially if we don't know how the game is really effecting us."

She moved towards Dominic and touched his arm, then gently turned him reaching to open his pack, she knew his familiar hid in here. She had read somewhere thay could communicate with their owners.

"Hey Lizard... I'm sorry I don't know what you are called, but I need you to tell Dominic that we're going to try to figure out what is causing him to be unable to hear. We're probably all going to have to get back to town."

Jasleth

He was halfway down the hill when he heard Skyler call him back. He smiled down at Kryss, "It never rains, does it?" "Come on, let's go see what's up."

He trudged back up the hill, still carrying his lovely burden. "What's wrong with Dom?" "He looks okay...don't tell me he got poisoned too." "Some slow acting one or something?" "Frickin' spiders."

He shifted Kryss in his arms, trying to think of how to do this. "If he's hurt too, then you're right." "We need to get some major healing mojo...and maybe someone there can tell us what's going on." "I can carry Kryss there, no problem." "I'll carry her as far as we have to go, but it'll be tricky if we run into any baddies." "Night missions and the like are more your venue than mine though...consider me at your disposal, Skyler."

He sighed as Skyler spoke to the rather freaked out looking (for an iguana it was very expressive) lizard. What else could happen?

Dominic

I saw Sklyer say something Jasleth, then Jasleth say something to Sklyer, then Sklyer say something to Slip. I really wished I could read lips.

I could hear Slip's panicked voice in my head.

Okay! Okay! I'll tell him! Just get those damn fangs out of my face! Then, in a calmer voice: Ahem...Dominic, the pale one seems to want me to be your interpreter.

Good. I sighed in relief. Thank God for Slip. I could hug the disease-ridden little bugger at this point. What did she say?

She says you smell like poo.

SLIP!

Okay, okay...jeez. You suddenly go deaf and become the world's biggest crabapple. She said that they're going to try to figure out what is causing you to go deaf. We're going back to town.

"Thanks." I said aloud to Sklyer and Jasleth. "Slip told me everything." I walked over to find Soliel. To my surprise, she was gone completely. I saw a note written in the ground. I read the part meant for me. I went red with ire and rubbed the dirt with my feet until the message was gone.

Prophet of doom, indeed.

Skyler

She looked to Jasleth, "Sorry I didn't mean to make you come all the way back up here from the river. We need Kryss' wound cleaned and then we'll get going. We shouldn't have too much trouble as late as it is getting, with sunrise a few hours away."

She looked after Dominic and saw him erase the message scrawled in the dirt. "Slip, Please tell Dominic, that as soon as Jasleth returns we are going to head back to town."

She knew dawn was only hours away. They had to get moving, more than likely they wouldn't be bothered by normal nocturnal creatures at this hour. But if Orcs or something were out and about they just might find trouble.

Jasleth

"Roger that." Instead of walking back down tot eh water's edge, he took a running leap, skidding down the slope slick fromthe wet night air. He came to a stop just short of the river, a little too close for comfort. "Okay!" "Sorry about the rapid transit, but I think time is at a premium."

He set her down at the every edge of the bank. "Go ahead and clean it out...I'll grind this thing up for ya." He turned around, sitting with his back to her and began to attack the root with the pestle. "You know, about what you said before...I'm sorry about all that fighting." "I should've kept my cool, like you." "I wasn't getting harshed half as badly as you were." "Don't worry though, we won't be fighting each other anymore." He risked a glance over his shoulder, reddening when he saw a great expanse of bared leg and quickly turned back to the root. "Just let me know when you're done." "We could have along couple of hours ahead of us...but we need to get started soon."

Dominic

Boss, Vampie says that as soon as Jasamine or whatever stops fooling around, we're headed out. Slip told me.

Slip, you should make the effort to call them by their actual names. Don't tell me you don't know, because I know you do.

Why? You know who I'm talking about. It's not like they can hear me.

I want you to, okay? It's just...good manners. I said and sat down, waiting for Jasleth. I pulled out a cigarette. The game is messing up, we are stuck as our characters, our group is falling apart, and to top it all off, I'm deaf. I really needed a smoke.

Skyler

She began to pace a little as they waited for Kryss and Jasleth. She walked over to the embankment, she wanted to call out, but she knew they were hurrying. She walked back to the tent to check on Geo. She reached out to touch his foot to try and wake him, so that he could decide if he wanted to go with them or not.

She knew that he and Soliel seemed to think that the rest of them were just in their way. She tapped his foot. “Geo, wake up we’re taking Dominic and Kryss to town. Kryss has been poisoned and Dominic can’t seem to hear. The game is messing up badly and we don’t care to find out if Kryss will really die because of this, so were going back.” She didn’t add that she didn’t want to find out what would happen to her once the sun rose.

Not getting a response she stepped away from the tent, she figured they could leave a note in the dirt as Soliel had done. She walked over to where Dominic was sitting, having a cigarette. “Dominic?” She reached out to touch his arm; she hoped the deafness was only temporary. “Other than not being able to hear are you ok? Slip please relay to him if he still can’t hear.”

She sat down beside him awaiting the return of the others. She wondered what abilities of her character she would still have, as it seemed things kept getting worse. If she could change forms then she would be safe during the day.

She looked back to Dominic, “You know if we get back before dawn, you’ll still get use of your room.” She smiled a little. She tried to access her abilities list, and nothing, Damn, now you’re going to have to try to remember what all they were.

She thought hard on it for a while, and then remembered she did have an animal form and could commune with animals. She never had tried either. She figured she would try to concentrate on the communing with animals. Maybe if she could hear Slip it would make things easier.

She closed her eyes a moment as she concentrated, she wouldn’t know if it worked until he spoke. “Slip, can you hear what I am thinking?” She hoped something would work. “If you can, peek out of the bag or respond to let me know, then please tell Dominic that it seems some of our powers still work, and I am going to try one of my others. If it works then I should be safe in sunlight.”

She was about to add something about if he couldn't hear her, but she knew if he or Dominic didn't respond to what she had said about her trying her powers, she would have her answer.

Kryss~

It felt good to be in his arms actually, though it was somthing I was not expecting. I started to clean out the woundThe water bit into the leg somewhat painfully, yet at the same time cooling.

I was quiet most of the time, mostly not wanting to cry.

"It's not your fault, she was just bekoning and seeing how far she can mock people." Though I do hope she is and will be ok." Said quietly almost whispering.

"HAnd me the stuff, the wound is cleaned. .... I don't know, Things have changed and to be honest that is why I been wanting a break from this game."

Applying the stuff to the wound as I speak, noticing him trying not to look.

"I will admitt you are one of the nicer people I have met here, cept for the other two Dominic and Skyler....... It's very rare the past few days that anyone seems to be nice....... So it isn't you at all..... In fact I'm glad I met......... There all finished, we can go when your ready." Cutting my one words off and quickly changing the subject.

"Are you sure you can carry me? It is quite aways to town." Just then he lifted me back up in his arms, I wrapped my arms around his neck to hold on, also because it felt ............ nice.....

There was a slight snap of a twig and the sound of steel scraping into a sheath as Geo stood, hands at his sides he looked over his shoulder. "I did my part...now the game is going up in flames..you all head back to town..I'm going to try and find some way to either get out of here, or find an information ai..something..."

Waving a hand slightly over his shoulder he walked into the woods. His best bet was probably "S.A.G.E."

It was an anti viral software that the prgrammer's had made for newbs, he had seen it a few times when he had started and it was fully interactive, he hoped it would still be up and running

Dominic

Dominic?! Slip's voice entered my mind. He seemed on edge. Dominic, the vamp is talking to me! Like with her mind and shit! She's in my head!

She's a vampire, maybe it's one of her abilities. I responded. Respond to her.

Yes, shabeeb. Slip grumbled and stuck his head out of the backpack. He stuck his long tongue out at Skyler, then dove back in the bag. She wants to know if you are okay, by the way, and that she's going to try and do her vamp stuff.

"I'm doing okay." I responded aloud. "It's just wierd not being able to hear anything." I ran a hand through my silver hair and sighed. "I hope our abilities still work. It's our only real chance out here."

Skyler

She looked to the lizard as it popped it's head out of Dominic's backpack, then stuck it's tongue out at her, and hid back inside of it. Damn that little beast had some nerve. She didn't care if it heard her or not.

She looked to Dominic, "Well, I hope so too." She wished she had another way to talk with him and ignore that little scaled nuisance. "Slip keep relaying messages for now please." Or... She cut off her thought so as not to offend the little beast, she needed it's help right now.

She was getting annoyed at their situation and was starting to get aggravated at the littlest things. She knew better than to let the lizard get to her, but it was doing a good job.

She wanted to try her shapeshifting, but then she knew she wouldn't be able to speak to him that way either, and might not be able to hold the link with the lizard.

She was hesitant about trying it as well, she remembered reading that the form could be set or random. That it wasn't set, just because you were a vampire that you'd change into a wolf or a bat or something... it could be anything.

"Alright Slip I'm going to try to change. I don't know if I'll be able to talk to you afterwards and I know I still won't be able to talk to Dominic."

She stepped back away from Dominic, she didn't want to be too close, not knowing what she would end up being. She just hoped she would be able to change back, she thought about the rules on the changing... "Um, Slip, tell Dominic I am not going to try yet, because if it works I am stuck till nightfall."

Dominic

She's gonna change into a bat or something. No, wait. She's not going to. Nevermind. Slip told me. I nodded and took another drag of the cigarette.

"Speaking of abilities, maybe I can see the future. About my deafness." I began to close my eyes. When I remembered how the error message had shown up, I realized maybe it wasn't a good idea. I was pretty sure that it was somehow connected to how I went deaf. I didn't want to try again; next time, I might go blind.

"Do you know when Jas is getting back?" I asked. It might be easier to stick to yes and no questions, that way they wouldn't have to talk, just nod their heads.

Skyler

"I would hope pretty soon. Sunrise is getting too close for comfort." She stood and looked down the embankment.

She saw the two at the edge of the water. "Hey Kryss, Jasleth...Come on, we have to get going."

She came back over to Dominic. "You know the idea about trying to see what happened... That might be a good idea." Of course she had no idea that was what might have triggered the deafness.

She hoped Slip would still relay what she was saying, she could try to do it herself but it m ay or may not work. She'd try though if the lizard didn't seem to be helping.

Jasleth

THe sounds of Kryss moving in the water were driving him crazy. A few times, he glanced over his shoulder to check her progress, at least that's what he told himself he was doing.

"Nice, huh?" He laughed, "Glad you think so, most people think I'm pretty annoying." "Although I haven't been in character as much today..."

Then Skyler hailed them, Jasleth looked up at the stars. They were running out of time until dawn. "Oh, you're done?" 'Course he knew that, he had been stealing looks. And she thought he was nice.

Again he picked her up, feeling a slight thrill as she looped her arms around his neck. He held her close to his bare chest as he jogged back up to the others, "If I have anything going for me, it's stamina." "I could carry you for days." He didn't want to say that at that exact moment he wouldn't have minded carrying her around on a permanent basis. She felt so wonderful in his arms, especially where her skin touched his. "And I'll do it for as long as I have to..." then he grinned at her, "or as long as you want me to." "The Prodigious Manservant is still at your beck and call, m'lady fair."

They had reached the top by then. "Okay, Skyler." "We're ready to go." "If I remember it right," he pointed to the south with one foot, remaining perfectly balenced on the other, "town is that way." "Think we should take a straight shot at it?" He glanced again at the sky, "Hate to say it, but that may be all we have time for."

"Personally, I say we just start jogging now and God help anything that gets in the way." "Direct style guy that I am." He grinned at Dominic, "Don't worry Dom, we'll have you hearing again in no time." "Then we'll find Soliel again and you'll wonder why we went through the bother." He didn't like making a joke at the absent archer's expense, she should have the chance to respond in kind, but it was important to try and keep the group's spirits up.

"Anyway...let's go!" "No time like the present!"

Skyler

She looked to Jasleth as she stood and then waitied for Dominic. "Yes I am familiar with this area. If we head back south it'll take us back to the town, we came from."

"Slip let Dominic know we must hurry, and that I am sure he can get some use of the room he rented when we return. I'll make sure the keeper, gives him another night for the price he had paid was for about that."

She looked back to Jasleth and Kryss, "We should get back now just before sunrise and the shops should be just opening up."

She turned and started to head back towards the town with the others, hoping really that there would be no delays. She hadn't tried to shapeshift, and even though she could speak with Slip, she didn't know what of her other abilities still worked.

Kryss~

Held on tightly to Jas when he took off running. It was smooth considering he was running. Almost like he wasn't touching the ground. I had to fight to keep awake though, all I wanted to do was sleep, even when in motion.

Jasleth

Jasleth padded after Skyler, keeping her in sight as he took up the rear position in line. It wouldn't be long now, and some order would be restored. The party would be back in shape at least.

Then he noticed a drowsy look on Kryss's face. "Hey...hey!" He shook her slightly, "Kryss!" "I may not know my poisons...but I don't think falling asleep is too good an idea right now." She looked up at him with tired eyes.

If it wasn't needed, then he'd just be a jerk...but it was better safe than sorry. Holding her in only one arm for a moment, he shifted his hand and gave her shapely rear a pinch. "Sorry about this, but I need to keep you awake." He flushed slightly, and then felt the need to cover for it. He forced a grin onto his face. "Besides...who could help themselves in my position?"

Kryss~

I smiled weakly at him, this poison is something else. Wonder why it didn't hit the ranger chick like it was me? No matter, maybe she had a higher resistant than I did.

I jerked alittle when he pinched my rear. Giggled alittle at what he said.

"No worries M'lord, you are right I do need to stay awake. It's just so hard right now." Closing my eyes alittle,

"Thank you once again for helping me, your so sweet when you want to be." Gripped my arms tighter around him, giving him hug leaning up just a little to kiss him on the cheek. Would have kissed his lips, but with us running, don't think that would be the greatest ideas.

Jasleth

He was glad that he was behind the others. He really wouldn't have wanted them to see him blush like this. Her lips were soft and warm on his cheek, and he found himself wondering what they would feel like on his own.

"Just Jasleth, or Jas, Kryss." He winked at her, "M'lords have all these codes to follow and I prefer my own." "I'd like to say the thanks aren't needed...but I can think of a few things that you could do to pay me back later." Maybe if he could get her bantering, engaged in conversation, it would help keep her awake. "Payment for services rendered," he grinned roguishly down at her, hoping the jovial tone would keep her from taking him seriously. Of course, he was partly serious. What was he doing, thinking of that at a time like this? "I'll take your suggestions first though, only fair." Damn blush. It wasn't helping any.

Dominic

We were headed out along the path to town and it was going well. Although our party has decreased to four, we were still hanging on. Well, as much as a deaf oracle, vampire, poisoned dancer, and overzealous monk can hold on.

Wait. Slip said suddenly. Did you hear that?

I stopped for a second, concentrating, then went red with ire.

You asshole. I growled mentally to Slip.

I'm sorry. It's just so easy. The iguana was laughing in my mind. I scowled and continued forward. That lizard will be sleeping outside for now on.
