The best form of childcare is a mother who can stay home and take care of her children because her husband earns enough money to support a wife who does not need to work and several children. Few men can do this anymore because wealth and income have been distributed upward in the growing income gap.

Major reasons for the growing income gap have been Republican changes - let's not call them "reforms" - that began with the Reagan administration. Taxes have been cut for rich people and corporations, the minimum wage has lost ground to inflation and the growing productivity of the economy, and labor unions have become weaker.
