The lowest score I've got was for Kurt Olsson XXX Special, which by now has a shocking 1,88. Not surprising, considering this is the feedback I've got on it.

Didn't anyone understand that this "story" was a JOKE???????

My lowest rated story is the second one I ever posted here. Kentucky Bound sits at a 4.47, with 51 votes and almost 10,000 views, so I'm not all that disappointed considering that when I go back and read it I almost wince. Strangely enough, it's the one with the most views.

I still haven't figured out how people get so many votes/views within a short period of time. Is it that they've just built a reader base? The story I have with the most votes only has 61, and I was tickled to death with that many votes, but there are authors who get that many votes in one day!

My experience is similar, and from what I can gleen from looking at the Top Lists and most viewed stories, the Incest/Taboo and Loving Wives categories are the most popular.

But don't change what you're doing, and although it may be small, you have a dedicated audience that appreciates your work.

I think you're right, in that writers build a fan base. I've had some reasonable feedback and your comment made me check something out. The first story I ever posted here, 'Change of Plan', on July 4, 2000 has now limped to 112 votes, 25111 views. In four years. My latest, 'You look good, Mom' has 145 votes, 49569 views. In a week! (Posted 25 August, 2004.) The first is in Erotic Couplings, the second in Incest/Taboo. Wrongly, I think although while I assert it's not incest, it may well be taboo.

I do remember Literotica was a lot quieter way back, with about 25,000 registered members when I joined. There are over 350,000 now. It took time to get a story posted, too. Weeks, months even. It speeded up dramatically when the new submissions system came along.

I think it might be a bit psychologically nasty for *some* of the denizens of that vanillin-scented enclave.

I mean, "pizza boy" and "I fucked my boss" stories abound.

Does it bother anyone else that some people's deepest, ultimate erotic fantasies are a cliche?

I've got a 4.29, never list as novel/novella, it won't get read much.
And a 4.5, which was a 4.49 forever until I blatently begged for someone to help. Lesbian stories always get a lot of hits in their first days.

Well they won't stop me....only I can do that, and I'm damn good at it too. Four, or five (?), stories all in progress (about half done), none of which get finished before I get caught up in the next one. It's a bad habit I'm developing quickly.

My lowest is The New Neighbors at 4.44 . My highest is Wingman at 4.80. Wingman has been in the top ten on Erotic Couplings pretty consistently and I like that, but I am more fond of it's many Public Comments and the amount of e-mail feedback it generated. Everything from a person who had gone to school in the same town 10 years before the story and recognized the setting to people with similar tales.

The New Neighbors is actually the story I have had the most fun writing and is perhaps my own favorite, but I know that some of that has to do with the interplay between me and my co-author.

The lowest rated of the three stories I have posted is 'Plastic Love' - (the link is in my signature ) - which I have no doubt is my best one yet. It's currently rated at 3.91 from 56 votes, which is the highest it has ever been (the lowest was at 3.37 with 35 votes).

From what I could gather, the voting has been mostly divided between 5s and 1s, with few middle-term votes. I consider that to be a good thing.

Likewise, the feedback has been divided between the 'bold, well-written, rich and fascinating experiment', and the 'pseudo-intellectuel and so boring.'

What an interesting thread!

I only have two stories posted so far, with a third to join them in a couple of days. As I've only been doing this for a month, who knows..

Midnight Mischief is steady at 4.35, 46 votes, 17 comments (I'm not complaining!) with 10,065 views in the Loving Wives category. I expected or hoped for a higher rating, but I'm coming around.

Morning Mischief is at 4.44, 54 votes and 6 comments, 17,052 views... it has only been up for under a week, and in the Anal category.. I was quite surprised with the amount of views and votes. Happy that my rating is creeping upwards.. maybe I'll finally hit over 5 with the next story, maybe not since it's completely different to my other two.

I think I'll work with two theories I've picked up from this thread.. the first that anything over a 4 is a success (thank you for that), and to convert your rating into a percentage.. now I feel much happier about it!
