STOP! Please stop! With all due respect of course! I can't learn one more thing about it!
:rose: Maybe you could post a few good receipes Chef! That would be terrific, not that I'd make the item, but I enjoy reading cookbooks!!:)

Agreed. I think we get it. Food is bad and eating food is bad.

At least I think that's the gist of SanDGuys message.

But seriously, we get it.

nah... :D eating food is ok :D.... well atleast the stuff i define as food...
but then again my bar is a hell of a lot higher than that of most people...

Believe it or not but "IN and OUT" is actualy an OK Place to eat...
the guy who founded the place went out of his way to make sure that they dont end up serving the same shiiait as most other fastfood places. (So usualy if i have a craving thats where i go.)

Plus they are the only place that makes their french fries fresh from whole potatoes... everyone else gets them frozen and precut.

But since you guys want recipes...
what did you have in mind???

Healthy and delicious...decadent but fatal???

take your pick :D

plus xeros_girl.. i think that even your cat agrees with you guys on... "oh no not again " :D just look at that cutesey face... :D
god i miss my cats.. too bad i cant have any pets where i live at.

No In and Outs here, however, lots of little places that are to die for. They do it right.

Recipes? None for me thanks. I got them coming out my ears thanks to school.

Can I have healthy and delicious AND decadent a fatal? I mean isn't that what food is all about? Tasty deliciousness and nutritive values? What's so wrong about putting a little sweet cream butter over my lightly steamed broccoli?

Yea, my cat has my attitude for sure. Sucks that you can't have your kitties. I'm getting a brand new one soon. :D

i like light healthy delicious foods... the only kind i can eat...

but there is always that little somehting about foods of which the smell alone will cause arterial clogage and heart disease...

Hi SanD guy..... I'm taking you up on the receipe offer....

I'm looking for a dip for a veggie platter.....I'm sick of the same ol' same ol'. Also.... veggies for grilling... should I use some oil on them prior to the grill? What about grilling corn on the cob? I've seen friends keep the husks on......

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

for the grilled veggies...
you can use your favorite vinaigrette for marinating those... ya know your favorite oil and vinegar based salad dressing.
try this...
in a blender combine
2 garlic cloves
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup of sundried tomato oil. (just pour some olive oil on sundried tomatoes.. let it stand and voila.. if you heat it up a little it comes out faster.)
4tbs fresh basil
1/2 tsp paprika
salt pepper to taste

just limmerse your vegetables in that and let sit for about 15 minutes while you wait for the grill to heat up... it usualy comes out very good.
As to the corn... i just throw it directly on the grill... i mark it and move it to the uper rack or some cooler part to finnish cooking.

as to the vegetable platter dip... well i usualy go for the simple things like ranch etc... usualy something cream based...

but you could try a nice roasted garlic caesar.
place in to a blender
2 egg yolks start blending untill they are smooth and even.
add 1 1/2 cups of olive oil a little at a time to the blender while it is running.
after you make a mayonaise out of that...
(you can propably just use mayo instead.. if feeling lazy)
just dump in to the blender
2 oz roasted garlic...
4 oz parmesan cheese
1 oz balsamic vinegar
1 oz red wine vinegar
1 oz lemon juice
1 oz lime juice
2 tbs dijon mustard (or what ever you have handy.. even powder works.)
1 oz (or a small can) of anchovy filets

salt pepper to taste

if you want to do something a little bit more "exotic" i have on ocation just put a bowl of hummus an other of salsa and a third of cheese dip on the side with some corn chips etc.. to accompany the veggies.
if you like that idea i can give you the recipes.

Thanks!! Those sounds great..... I'll skip exotic for now!! But I have another question for you....

I was going to go to the bakery for a Strawberry Roulard, but there are more folks coming than I thought so.... I was thinking of doing a sort of trifle strawberry roulard..... would I use those little spong cake cup things...tear them apart? Or do you have another suggestion.

This is cool!! Thanks SD:)

I know this is way off topic and I still owe an ingredients list but SanDguy your Av is HILLARIOUS!

ummm?? sponge cake cup things??? im kind of

personaly i would just make an other strawberry rollad...
let the guests deal with the hastle...

just make a sponge cake batter. ya know
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup eggs
1 tsp baking powder
some vanilla and lemon juice

foam up the eggs and sugar toss in the flavorants. mix together
the the flour shift and fold in to the batter.

pour it on to a lined baking pan and bake at 350-400 F untill done. (a 1/2 size restaurant sheet pan will work wonders)

let cool place some parchement on a counter top sprincle it with a bunch of sugar and flip flat cake on to that smear a layer of strawberry jam on top with a layer of your favorite frosting on top of that. then just roll...
voila your done. throw it in the fridge untill service time.
If your wondering about the thicknesses of the varied layers... just copy your ready made cake and youll do fine. :D

Thank you for all that, I appreciate it very much!
:rose:

you can also make the sponge base chocolate by replacing some of the flour with cocoa powder.. :D

oh and your welcome.

Ok as promised the ingredients to Ovaltine here they are:

Barley and Malt Extract, Sugar, Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Whey Powder, Triglycerides (MCT), Magnesium Carbonate, Dried Whole Egg, Salt, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Iron Phosphate, Vanillin, Niacin, Vitamin A Acetate, Maltodextrin, Thiamine Hydrochloride.

they get the vanilin from wood pulp...

maltodextrin is made from amongs other things.. corn starch...
its artificialy broken down in to sugars...
In the states maltodextrin must be made from either corn or potato... if memory serves me correctly.

if your wondering about the other ingredients... ask away... :D

magnesium carbonate is propably just the anti caking agent responcible for keeping the stuff powdery instead of lumpy...
if memory serves me correctly.

I agree with you, my baking is from scratch, hubby would divorce me if I made a cake mix. SSS

personaly i would rather see to it that every kitchen had a big brutish food police in it punching anyone in the face that reaches for the ready made cake mix box.

If i ever have kids.. thats propably what ill end up doing every time we drive by a Mcdonalds... punch them in the face or give them a small electric shock... jsut so that they will link an unpleasant feeling with mcdonalds.

What the hell is Vanillin anyhow?

And as far as it being bad for you quite frankly if you don't realize most of the stuff your eating is bad for you, especially stuff from places like Mc Donald's then your a very stupid person.
I don't eat that crap for the Nutritional value I eat it because it's conveinant (I can't spell).
If we didn't live in the fast paced rat race we do we would all have time to make everything from scratch and grow our own vegetables etc and not have to eat the hormone laced, poison filled garbage they sell as food today.

vanillin... what does the name sound like??? it makes things taste like vanilla... :D

Ah but my point of it is that you can make the choices when purchasing food of not buying the shiiait that is horridly bad for ya...
for example instead of drinking ovaltine you can just take a handfull of chocolate chips throw them in to a pot heat it up a little till they melt and pour in a couple of cups wort of milk etc...
mix it up and voila hot chocolate... takes about 5 minutes.
you can even do it in the microwave in a bit lees time.

As to the rest of the food... you can cook a good medium rare steak in about 10 minutes and some couscous on the side at the same time... you can make a wholly balaced heathy meal in about
20-30 minutes tops and not have to compromise. (oh and its also possible to get non steroid treated meat here in the US as well you look for it.)

I dont see 20-30 minutes as being a huge chunk of ones time... and people who go for the McDonalds food etc.. usualy they are just too fucking lazy or unskilled to make food for them selves.

the last time i saw the latter to be true... was when a person was just too fucking dumb to be let near a kitchen... she cooked the ground beef literally on the stove and the recipe directed.
(no pans.. not hing just on the stove.. made a god awful mess)

also... the cows they grind up in to fast food joint patties dont even have a USDA grading for their meat... the industry calls them either canner cutter or downer cows. canner cutter is only a small step above downer and it is mostly used for dogfood and canned chiles stews etc..

Ok I figured out on my own that was intended to make things taste like Vanilla but my question is WHAT IS IT? Is it the same as Aritificial Vanilla Extract? Or is it something else?

its the chemical that makes the vanilla flavor...
vanilla beans have it... certain trees have small amounts of it..
thats whyoak chips in a wine barrel will give the wine a small hint of vanilla flavor.
trough various processes manufacturers extract and purify the chemical from wood pulp... thats how imitation vanilla extract is made. Its much cheaper than the "real stuff".
