Winter Holiday Contest - the support thread

This being my first ever contest entry, I have noticed that it comes with a free entry into the 'Lets Bomb All Her Stories' club.

LOL

Thanks Sack for the nice feedback. I am slowly making my way through the entries. I read your "The Little Candle Girl" and loved it.

CharleyH...no bomb from me.:)

LOL - Thanks. I had just noted non-contest submissions took a dip today. I also started making the rounds, but am limiting myself to 2 per day at the moment.

Sometimes. (Listen to me -- LOL -- this is only my SECOND contest entry.)

My Halloween story seemed to positively effect my other stories. This one's not spawning any attention to my other stuff -- good, bad, or indifferent.

Just finished yours. Gonna read one more before I get busy with RL.

Hm a conundrum. I realize that I should not vote on any story that I can't give a five too. That would be like skewing results or something, no? How do you all deal with this?

I pretty much reached the same conclusion, though I make an exception in the rare cases where at contest deadline someine needs a vote. Then, if I honestly can't give five, I might give a 4, or a 3, never less.

I vote as if I'm not an entrant, and I follow the same "rules" as I normally do: for a 4 or 5, I'll PC. If worse, I'll send private feedback -- or not vote at all.

Pretty much the same as Imp.

Above average = 5 (probably cast twice as often as 3's)

Average = 4 (the majority of my votes)

Below average = 3 (infrequent)

Anything below that and I've almost always stopped reading long before the story ends and don't vote, unless:

It's so bad I scroll to the end and vote = 2 or 1 (very rare)

For what it's worth, I'd prefer a three-point system, either 1-2-3, or 3-4-5 although the latter would probably be the easiest to convert to. A one-vote has a huge impact on a five-point system, especially here at Lit where about half the stories have a score of 4.00 or higher.

Rumple Foreskin

whereas I would prefer the sensitivity of a ten point scale. There are many stories, contest or not, which I hesitate to give a "5" to, but since "4" is really below average, a 9 out of ten would be ideal.

I had no idea I was writing a holiday submission. Story contests are not my bag. But this one spoke to me.

Not posted yet, but will be soon, I hope.

Okay, I've submitted mine, let's hope it goes.

I'll vote for peeps, but I may not leave a PC, so don't weep, I read slow and would like to be able to get to as many as I can.

I agree with the five or not at all theory. I have no illusions of winning anything, but I came to the conclusion that anything less than a five vote is a negative if you've entered something. All the more reason for a ten point system where a 9 is a positive.

I'm incredibly happy just to be able to be a part of this, and I want to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to the Literotica powers that be, as well as all the authors who make this place so welcome to those still trying to find their way around here.

U4ea (great handle),

If you're up to the challenge, knock out a revised, tense-correct version and submit it as an EDITED story (add that to the title). I did that when there were some formatting snags on my entry. Laurel managed to have it up the next day.

Rumple Foreskin

*smiles* I thought about doing that...hmmm... Thanks, RF! :rose:

Og,

Dinner With Friends looks oh, so weak. A stumbling, bumbling, hard-to-sink-lower-than entry and a real contender for last place dishonors.

So tell us, Great Og, what's the secret of its disgr-uh-tinction?

Rumple (mired again in mediocrity) Foreskin

The secret is to write a story you don't really believe in, just because you need an entry for the competition. Lack of commitment shows.

It was written just after I'd decided to pull out of NaNoWriMo this year after that story bogged itself down inextricably in asinine convolutions and I was totally uninspired.

The trouble is that the story I really want to submit for the contest is also stalled. It is another episode in my Brigit saga and I don't want to compromise the others with a flawed story.

Og

Damn, these contest stories take a beating. There I was happily riding along in a safe place when BAM! Struck by the Literotica scrooge. lol. The fucker. Never liked him anyway. :)

Laurel is on top of the bomb removal, though. Had one pulled within HOURS yesterday.

Carson -- awesome story. RVC'd. Gonna tackle Abs' 4-page opus next.

Carson...lovely story.:)

I'm going away for Thanksgiving so I will catch up on my return. My story is slowly moving downward and maybe I will win that coveted last place. My second story is only half done and may never make the contest. Such is life!

Everyone have a great holiday and if you aren't American ...have a great weekend.:rose:

Well I woke up to find my story already up and now I can cartwheel ( thanks vella and Becca and Sack).

I hope someone will take a peek and vote....(pathetic attempt at begging)

hopefully I did the link right, since I never do....now in all fairness I can go and read other's stories...btw, mine's non-erotic so if you're looking for action, sorry.

Good Luck to all the other Litster's entered.

ABs, I don't know if you've considered trying to get this story published, but if I were you, I would think about shopping it to a few magazines that buy fiction. This is top-quality story telling, really flawless. Its length may cause it not to win the contest, but it's truly the best contest entry I've read, and one of the best Lit stories I've ever read, period. Thank you for writing it.

You don't know how much you made my day, this story was very personal and needed to be written.
Thank you for reading it and for making me feel so very wonderful.

Can I keep you?
