Women of Lit: A Safe Place To Share

I think they are going to try to do whatever they can to increase the birth rate. Meanwhile, women are taking action and making plans to be sure to NOT get pregnant while it is too risky to experience complications.

This past week has been rough. So much anxiety.

Your post has been troubling me. You said you hope you have time - to get your tubes tied. Is that procedure another thing the Reps intend to ban? I hope my assumption is wrong :(
It's legal right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if that changes. People laugh and scoff when I bring up Christian Nationalism, but I never, ever truly believed that Roe v. Wade could ever possibly be over turned in (what is SUPPOSED to be) a modern, first world country that celebrates individual freedoms and human rights.

Holy crap!

My gf and I had talked about if we would ever want to have a kid and we were both in the 'maybe' category before. It came up again last night and both of our opinions had changed.
I don't blame you. I personally have spent years terrified of becoming pregnant, so I was very careful about how I approached sex. It also helps that I am ace. But...you just wonder...because some of the discourse is thinly veiled threats of sexual assault.

I was afraid that I would lose the ability to obtain my birth control, which I take for mental health issues. With men chanting, "Your body, MY choice" out there, some of us are legitimately afraid of more than just getting pregnant.
It’s getting weird. Especially for poor people and minority groups. They are the ones in serious danger.

My daughters are in their 20s. I’m just horrified at the fact that they have fewer rights now than they did when they were born.

And these idiots who voted for this? For what, “cheap gas and better grocery prices”? Like that’s actually gonna happen. He doesn’t care about regular people. I want to go to sleep and wake up in 4 years. But I also want to fight. The people celebrating are stupid or gaslit and manipulated and hopefully wake up soon. The men stating “Your body, my choice” are nightmares.

This, all of this!
And the outright lies, the extreme right spent the campaign not talking about, or denying project 2025 was their guide and now that the election has ended I've read lots of comments from them how this has always been their plan.

That said, I have to believe when it comes to any form of imposing control, specially on women will not be off the table.

Again, so many of us were in shock over policies and actions in the first term of trump.
I totally believe for this group of extremist nothing is off the table!

When the draft Dobbs decision was leaked, a friend of mine and I were talking about how we were sure the court would reach a compromise. My Hubby was strangely silent during that conversation. Later, I asked him why, since he usually lives to discuss court decisions. He told me it was because he didn't want to give us the bad news that there would be no compromise because the draft decision was the compromise. He said that was why Alito wrote it, not Thomas, and he predicted Thomas's concurrence.

The compromise was to overturn Roe without overturning the rest of the Griswold line of cases, something he suspected they did not have the votes to do. And his thought was that as long as the current court is in place, that will be the status quo. However, he said a couple night ago that is Sotomayor's seat were to become vacant during the next four years, things could change. That's what has him worried... and trust me, if my Hubby is worried, given that he is one of the most rational and optimistic people I know, I'm super fucking worried.

Totally agree! 4 years can amount to many many federal level judges being appointed and as many of those appointments seem to be lifetime terms the damage they do might outlast the coming administration.

At this point I am still having a difficult time processing all this, and wish I knew things to do to help vulnerable folks in this country. I suppose as time goes on some of that will become more apparent, but in the meantime I kinda need a hug.....

New sad research results in my country:
  • 25% of men under 35 think that a woman may sometimes deserve violence due to how she looks, dresses or behaves. As many as offered those over 65 - for the generations between it's 15-20%.
  • This despite 90% of men thinking that violence is always wrong.
  • 22% of men not believing it's necessary for men to intervene in case of offensive and objectifying treatment of women.
  • 22% of men under 25 think that violence may sometimes be necessary to get respect. Of men over 65% it's just 6%.
  • 60% of men thinking we already do have equality here...
And too many men think that violence towards men is imported by immigrants, despite this being among the most violent countries towards women in Europe. 1/3 of women have experienced violence from their partner.

These results don’t seem quite believable to me - or rather that first one, about <35s’ attitude to violence against women doesn’t seem believable
Do you happen to know who conducted the research, and where, and with what methodology?
