Ferren, God of Storms

Name: Ferren
Species: God
Domains: Thunder, Lighting, Wind, Rains, Protection (esp. in battle), and Justice.
Age: 100 (Looks to be 29 or so…)
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 200

Ferren’s Image:
Ferren2.jpg

Personality

Despite his dour appearance, Ferren is a kind and caring god who strives to help those in need. He is a protector of the weak, and of warriors in battle. Ferren is a just god, and upholds and encourages the virtue of justice as well.

Since Ferren’s spent so much time on the mortal plane, he’s very much a human in his emotions and actions. Sometimes it's hard to believe he's god at all. Rather than distancing himself from his worshipers by residing in the heavens, he prefers to stay on the mortal plane, close to them even at risk to himself.

Abilities:

Lightning manipulation, (can strike with lightning bolts [limited], can electrify his weapons, and others’ as a blessing.), Gale, (can summon a strong, protective barrier of wind…), Thunder clap, (blinds and deafens foes for a period of time.)

(More can be added later…)

Weapons/Equipment:
His hands, electrified with lightning, are his preferred weapons, but he carries a trident as well.

Misc:
Ferren is one of the youngest gods in the heavens. So far, he’s managed to escape Sardonica’s notice, but with his courageous acts and willingness to help men fend off the goddess’ people, he’s quickly gathering worshipers and growing in strength.

Currently, Ferren is searching for the Night Mother and any other gods and goddess who remain, to ally with. He is also seeking the right person to become his High Priest or Priestess to solidify his growing power…

OOC: I love him...

<IC>

Ferren walked through the freshly fallen snow to the center of E’sari. He’d hoped to find allies here, but all he found was death. The young godling stared at the carnage before him. The slaughtered bodies of the people of E’sari lay frozen in the snow, and he knew that this was the work of Sardonica’s people.

The god swore softly. He stood there in the eerie silence of the city, and yet he still heard the screams of people as they were slain and the roar of battle as though it were happening around him. Ferren’s hand’s tightened into fists and arcs of lightning crackled around them.

I swear by the heavens, I’ll see justice for this and every other place you’ve burned, Sardonica…

Then, something caught his attention. It was a vague feeling, a sense of something that he’d felt before.

A divine essence? Here?

Ferren followed that feeling but lost it just at the edge of the woods. It wasn’t just a divine essence—it was a divine essence mixed with a human soul.

“Strange...” he murmured.

Ferren gave the woods one last look before he turned back to E’sari. He wasn’t hopeful, but if there were any survivors or any wounded left, he’d see them to somewhere safe…

Kallisto had ran from the cave, she couldn't stay, she knew that there was no staying there. She wanted to but she had to go, there was something telling her to get as far away from that cave as she possible could have. The young wolf changed into a woman when she saw the destruction... Her heart broke at all of the bodies scattered about.

How could a divine being let something like this happen? Why would such a being bring this about?

Whether she sat there in the red snow for hours or just a moment she didn't know... What Kallisto did know was that someone was approaching. She strapped Wrack to her side and got up. She could tell where they were coming from but who they were exactly was not known and so she ran...

Would they follow her and destroy her for the mayhem that had been wrought upon the city or would they be Sardonica's henchmen. Into the forest she ran hoping that the magical principles would hide her from whomever these men were. One she spotted right away, he had to be the leader. He seemed kind enough... but could she really be sure?

Ferren looked up abruptly from his search. He heard the crunch of snow under feet as someone or something darted out into the forest.

If it's a survivor, those woods might not be safe... he thought.

Ferren followed the sound of running through the brush and ahead he saw a young woman. He caught a glimpse of wolfish ears and a tail...

She's a changeling--no wonder she's so damned fast!

The young god bounded over a huge, fallen log as Kallisto ducked under, and Ferren landed just in front of her. He turned and the young woman stumbled back into the log.

Ferren adjusted the trident strapped to his back and knelt before her.

"It's alright..." he said softly. "I won't hurt you--You're safe now."

He held out a large hand wrapped in linen from his knuckles to his wrist.

"I won't let anything happen to you..."

She was surprised at how fast her had followed, she was far from slow and so finding herself trapped between this man and a log was a bit of a shock. Kallisto, her neck still cut, was bleeding. She stared at him as he knelt there with her. She looked down at the hand presented to her before looking up at him as if afraid to let her guard down for too long.

"Who are you?" She asked sounding nervous. "Why are you here?" She asked getting a little braver as she felt the weight of Wrack on her back. She didn't know where her bow or arrows were... they had been lost in the scuffle...

She would have to find them later.

She pulled herself up, without his help, and looked around them. Was she looking for Dorin? It was possible but he didn't seem to be around. "Where does your loyalty lie?" She demanded having not revealed her own yet.

What a mess she looked, covered in blood, mud, sweet, and her hair all in disarray.

"I am Ferren." he smiled, as he tried to put the changeling at ease.

He withdrew his hand, but he remained kneeling to Kallisto. She was a rather audacious pup, but given what she'd survived...

"And my loyalty? My loyalty lies with the people--No god should be allowed to roam like this... You're hurt, little one--please let me help you..."

She stared at him... She was feeling kind of lightheaded... She had, accidentally, torn open several wounds that morning. Kallisto calmed herself upon hearing that he was with the people. Her ears twitched slightly at the sound of his 'friends' back at E'sari.

"I am Kallisto," she said as she touched her head hoping to use the chill of her hands to rid herself of the mild headache. Her clothes were torn and hardly acceptable for anyting but rags now.

She nodded as he asked to help her. Kallisto closed her eyes for a moment and took a deep breath trying to soothe the little pain in her head. She stumbled a little, reaching out for something to catch herself on... Instead finding warm arms around her. The wolf girl stared up at the man... "Please help me... I cannot find Maximus..." She said trying not to pass out.

"Who is Maximus, Kallisto?" Ferren said as he held her gently and brushed tangles of hair away from her face.

He noticed that her ears twitched slightly and picked up the young woman, poised to run if he needed to...

"What do you hear?"

"Maximus... He is... the godling..." She said closing her eyes as his hands ran through her hair. She could hear many things, the most immediate was the few followers he had and rain.

"I hear your men... and the upcoming rain..." She said. "The thunder..." She said. Sure there had been a mild blizzard last night but the warm front was moving in now.

"You are not a normal man..." She said looking at him.

Ferren relaxed a little as a small band of men and women in storm-blue cloaks emerged from the trees. He took the corner of his own cloak and started to wipe away the dirt and blood on her face.

He motioned for a woman to come, and when she lay her hands on Kallisto, her wounds started to heal.

"You are not a normal man..." She said looking at him.

"No, Kallisto", Ferren smiled softly. "I suppose not."

Kallisto felt the healing hands and was grateful for them. Her powers never worked on herself so some immediate relief was more than welcomed. She looked to the man who seemed very different and it was evading her. He was not anything like Maximus but... there was something.

"Have you seen an elf and a Korinthian?" She asked suddenly remembering her two other friends. "Have there been any survivors?" Kallisto asked as they tried to clean her up a little.

Ferren looked up at his followers, and the woman who'd healed Kallisto shook her head.

"No.." she said. "You're the only one we've come across here... No Korinthians or elves... I'm sorry."

Ferren's brow furrowed.

"There was something here, though." Ferren said. "Something strange... You say that Maximus was a godling? Was he the only one?"

Kallisto felt like someone had knocked all of the air out of her. She was trying not to panic now. But then a thought struck her, one that had her on her feet, "You never found their bodies?" She asked moving to the woman. She was getting hopeful.

"Maddox couldn't die... He's like a roach..." She said almost sounding relieved that no bodies had been found. "And... And Lucifine is too strong..." She was trying to convince herself now. She took a nice deep breath and looked at the man. "They're alive... Just not here... So now I need to find Maximus... He answers to Falling..." She explained.

"There was something here, though." Ferren said. "Something strange, even for something divine. You say that Maximus was a godling? Was he the only one?"

"Yes, the only one that I know of," she said sounding nervous now. "Why?" She asked. "Is there something wrong?" She asked finding renewed energy.

Ferren stood, no towered over the changeling as he got up from where he'd sat next to Kallisto.

"We'll find your friends, Kallisto", he reassured her. "That, I promise you. I only ask about another god, because I sensed something earlier at the edge of the wood when I came to E'sari. The essence that I felt was divine, but it was weak and it seemed to be... fused with moral soul. I hadn't followed it yet--finding survivors here came first..."

Ferren motioned for his people to come and he gently took Kallisto's hand.

"Maybe it has something to do with your Maximus..."

"Maximus... He's a fallen God..." She said. As she allowed the warm hand to take her. "I had just agreed to be his priestess before..." She almost mentioned Dorin but managed to bite her tongue, "...Well before they attacked..." She said thinking that it would be best to get it out there in the open.

She allowed herself to be led back to E'sari...

"I need my bow and arrows..." She said halfheartedly as she began to look. She would have to find a way to bury all these people...

Ferren gave Kallisto's hand a gentle squeeze.

"Priestess?" he said. "All the more reason to find him then. Now, we must take care of the dead..."

Ferren gave a nod to his people, and joined them as they started to bury the dead. The changeling worked along side them, and hours later, the city was no longer littered with the bodies of the dead. It stood a silent and eerie graveyard now--a testament to Sardonica's brutal slaughter.

"There's no more we can do here..." Ferren said softly. "If you haven't found your bow, Kallisto, I can give you one if you like."

He squinted at the dying sun in the sky.

"If we're going to see where that essence leads, we should do it before nightfall..."

For the next few hours she helped bury all of the people that had died at the hands of the cruel Goddess' army. She would make that witch pay for what she was doing to people...

She looked to him. "My bow is gone... I wonder if they took it..." She said softly just remembering how long she had had that bow. She frowned. "I don't know... don't you need your bow?" She asked.

"Let's go..." She said as she easily took his hand again. She was still dirty and muddy... she needed a good long bath to take mud and blood out of her hair.

"I don't need a bow." he said. "The trident's more than enough for me. But for you, Kallisto..."

There was a crackle of energy in Ferren's hands as he summoned a bolt of lighting. He stretched it out and molded it under his hands until it took the shape of a silvery bow. Arcs of electricity danced down the string as Ferren raised it and pulled back. An arrow of lighting formed just before he let it go and it hit the trunk of a tree. The lightning arrow faded and there was a scorch mark where it had been.

"...this should suit you." he said as he held out the bow to Kallisto. "It is my wish that Talos protect you, and defend the ones you care about in their time of need."

"Let's go..." She said as she easily took his hand again. She was still dirty and muddy... she needed a good long bath to take mud and blood out of her hair.

Ferren was a bit surprised at how easily Kallisto took his hand, and he nodded somehow pleased by this. He focused in on that peculiar essence again and they walked for sometime. It was nearly dark when they came to a snow bank and Ferren scraped the snow off with his trident.

There, encased in ice, was a man with dark hair and holes in his body from arrows. On top of the slab of ice was something strange and bluish... The essence that he'd followed didn't match the body in the ice.

"What... is this?" Ferren murmured, confused.

She couldn't believe what she had just witnessed sure normal humans had powers but not the ability to make something out of nothing like that. She held the bow. It was beautiful and light and seemed to be alive in its own respect. "Thank you... I... Thank you," she decided.

OOC: I keep hinting...

"Maximus!" She was moved to tears at the sight of her friend in the ice. It was obvious that he was dead as she conitnued to cry and mourn for the poor man. She was tired, half dead, sore, and dirty. She felt the hot tears moving down her cheeks. Sure, she had not been in love with him but he had inadvertantly opened her up to new things. She recalled her night of passion with Dorin and she was a little embarrassed.

"He's dead..." She choked.

"He's dead..." She choked.

Ferren's heart ached for the priestess. She'd lost her god. What words could he possible say to her that would ease her sorrow?

He knelt behind Kallisto, brought his arms around her and held her tight.

"We live in an age where even we gods can die..." Ferren said softly. "I'm so sorry, Kallisto..."

For a long time, he held her and let her cry. When she was done, he gently smoothed away her tears with his thumbs.

"The death of your god will not go unpunished, Kallisto. I swear it..." he said.

The sun had completely set now, and darkness was setting in. Kallisto looked so battered and cold, and Ferren held her to him.

"You're tired, little one." he whispered softly. "You need rest. In the morning, we can look for your friends. Do you have any idea where they might go if they fled E'sari?"

Kallisto had never thought that she would cry for him. She had never really thought he would... or could die. She wanted to tell him that she was sorry for being so mean and harsh a few times and that she really did care for him. The wolf did not know that she could cry so many tears...

She finally found that there were none left and she was left to try and calm down.

"Thank you..." She said managing not to cry again. "I wanted to help him... because he could help us..." She said trying to dry her face.

"They would head to Maddox's home... Deshtal..." She said trying to not look back at her dead fallen deity. "Sleep would be best..." She agreed. She felt so lost now... nothing was supposed to turn out like this. "I need to find a river to wash up..." She mumbled.

Ferren gave a solemn nod.

"Then we'll go to this Deshtal in the morning when you're rested."

The small contigent of Ferren's followers moved off a ways and started to make camp. Soon, tents were raised and there was a small fire going. In the distance, Ferren heard the babble of creek. He gently picked Kallisto up and cradled her in his arms.

"Come..." Ferren said. "Let's get you cleaned up, and warmed by the fire. You'll sleep better. If you're hungry, I can get you something to eat."

She was thankful that he was there to carry her and help her with everything.

Kallisto smiled at the sight of the little creek. She moved from his arms and began to undress, sure he was there but after last night... she didn't care if this man saw her.

"So... if you are not a normal man... what are you?" She asked quietly moving to the water to was away the dirt and grime. She felt better... if not extremely cold. She was shivering in the water.

The word "god" felt strange on his lips. He rarely used it, and his followers barely spoke the word either, but they all knew what he was...

He glanced up at Kallisto briefly. The young woman was certainly beautiful, but his eyes darted away. This was neither the time, nor the place...

Erm... I think night still has to pass for Maddox and Lucifine--what were those two doing again? [I don't remember... ]

Erm... I think night still has to pass for Maddox and Lucifine--what were those two doing again? [I don't remember... ]

OOC: how easily forgotten they were....

Kallisto stared at the man. Another God? She found all of this hard to believe. How was it that she should meet two Godlings? Days withing one another? She completely washed up, rinsing her hair of the muck before returning to the embankment. She shifted to a wolf and shook herself nearly dry before returning to her human form. Her clothes were still dirty so she quietly rinsed them in the river before gathering up one of the cloaks she had been given by this man and wrapping it around herself.

She must have been quite the sight, youth and beauty wrapping only in a small cloak.

Her amber eyes shifted to meet his. "If you are a God... Then where is your Priest or Priestess?" She asked sounding as if she was trying to catch him in a lie. She had thought about it al the while she was bathing and washing her clothes.

"Why would you travel so far from protection without a Priest or a Priestess to give you power?" She asked.

She looked up at the elf, his amber eyes seemed to glow warmly, gently in the fire’s light.

“Of course I worry for you…”

I think you hide more behind that smile of yours than you care to admit… she thought.

Lucifine brought the blanket around him and lay her head on his shoulder. She watched the fire for a long time as it flickered dimly in the darkness. She closed her eyes and let the comfort of his presence soothe her. She would take whatever bit of peace she could find.

“Tell me about the Destrayans” she asked softly. “Tell me about you…”

"We are warriors..." He said simply. "Trained by the sword from a young age... There are many different kinds but most of us work best in a unit. So we know that each of our sides are protected, but I am not such. I was taught differently by my mother and father. They trained me so that I would have to leave Deshtal..." He explained.

"The greatest glory is death in battle...." He chuckled. "I would prefer to die old with my wife and children at my side, but I do not hesitate to fight..." He continued. "I just know to pick my battles carefully..."

He slipped into deep thought now. He wondered what it would have been like had he not left... Would Lucifine still be here? Would any of this have happened at all?
