World of Sardon

OOC: how easily forgotten they were....

Kallisto stared at the man. Another God? She found all of this hard to believe. How was it that she should meet two Godlings? Days withing one another? She completely washed up, rinsing her hair of the muck before returning to the embankment. She shifted to a wolf and shook herself nearly dry before returning to her human form. Her clothes were still dirty so she quietly rinsed them in the river before gathering up one of the cloaks she had been given by this man and wrapping it around herself.

She must have been quite the sight, youth and beauty wrapping only in a small cloak.

Her amber eyes shifted to meet his. "If you are a God... Then where is your Priest or Priestess?" She asked sounding as if she was trying to catch him in a lie. She had thought about it al the while she was bathing and washing her clothes.

"Why would you travel so far from protection without a Priest or a Priestess to give you power?" She asked.

Ferren paused, his hands still on Kallisto's shoulders, after he'd wrapped her in the cloak. She was beautiful, and he felt a hot blush creeping over his skin at the thought of it.

"My clergy are scattered, Kallisto." he said. "They roam the land, protecting people where they can, from Sardonica's influence. They try to open their eyes, and make them see the deceitful nature of the goddess..."

Ferren picked Kallisto up again and walked back to the camp. He set her down by the fire and one of his people brought her something to eat.

"As for myself... The people are my responsibility; I cannot idly stand by while they're slaughtered by Sardonica. I chose to live amongst them, to fight with them. It's the only way that I can protect them... But I'm just a godling, as you say, Kallisto. I'm... young. I seek others like me to ally with, particularly the Night Mother from the North, but no one has felt her presence in a while."

"We are warriors..." He said simply. "Trained by the sword from a young age... There are many different kinds but most of us work best in a unit. So we know that each of our sides are protected, but I am not such. I was taught differently by my mother and father. They trained me so that I would have to leave Deshtal..." He explained.

"Much like the Korinthians" Lucifine said, as she looked over at Tempest.

Her brow furrowed, though. Tempest wasn't her weapon of choice. It was an elegant weapon, a nobleman's weapon, that she little experience with other than what Marius had taught her. She longed for her falcata--the short sword she'd lost in the battle at the Night Mother's temple...

She was warmed by Maddox and the fire and she felt herself getting sleepy...

"We have...had a great martial tradition. To serve in the army was considered glorious; to serve in the King's Guard, a prestigous honor for the elite..."

Lucifine's brow furrowed for a moment.

"Why would you have to leave your home?"

"The greatest glory is death in battle...." He chuckled. "I would prefer to die old with my wife and children at my side, but I do not hesitate to fight..." He continued. "I just know to pick my battles carefully..."

Lucifine looked up at Maddox when he'd mentioned wife and children. Somehow, he looked older to her then, more... distinguished when he spoke of family. It was a strange thing to say, given that Kallisto said that he had a way with women...

"I'm sure one day you'll find a woman who suits you." she smiled. "You're a good man, Maddox--she'll be a rather lucky woman..."

He slipped into deep thought now. He wondered what it would have been like had he not left... Would Lucifine still be here? Would any of this have happened at all?

Lucifine snuggled into Maddox's arms as he quietly wandered in his thoughts. Her eyes slipped closed, and she let the sound of his heartbeat lull her into the most peaceful sleep that she'd had in a long time.

OOC: sorry my English teacher took over my computer so i couldn't really type...

Kallisto was surprised that he was suddenly picking her up again, she was not so weak that she could not handle herself but it was nice to be cared for she decided after a moment. It wasn't long before the wolf girl found herself back at the camp with the man.

"Why wouldn't you bring one with you?" She asked looking confused. "I found Maximus shortly after her fell... But I imagine you have been on the plane for a while... Surely you have one that has time to travel with you?" She asked.

"Why does that sound so familiar?" Asked the worl girl. "You and Maximus are the only ones that I have met with... I know not any others..." She said thinking that she was failing him. He who had helped her out so much... she was of no use to him now...

"I'm sorry... Thank you for everything but I have not been any help..."

He smiled, "With my parents being what they are it was expected of me to leave..." He chuckled softly to himself. "It is not proper for a marriage of their kind..." he said trying to leave it at that for now. It was not the time to speak of such things... His mind and 'body' were telling him such.

He should have been moving in on her and trying to get them back to the bed, not that the floor wasn't perfectly acceptable too. But the bed was comfier... but he didn't want to do that to her... he had hurt women before and Lucifine, like Kallisto, was not a woman that he wanted to harm or anger.

He leaned down and quietly gave her a kiss upon her brow, before quietly picking her up and depositing her on the bed, his own self following shortly after... he didn't want her to catch a cold...

Ferren reached out and stroked a strand of hair away from Kallisto's face.

"Don't be so hard on yourself, little one." he said softly. "If you wish, I can see you to Deshtal. If your friends are there, then perhaps we can join together--the more allies we can gather, the better."

Aww... That's so sweet. I like how he's conflicted about what to do with her :D

<IC>
Lucifine wasn’t aware of Maddox’s gentle kiss or that he picked her up and laid her in bed. When she woke in the morning, she was startled to find the elf sleeping in bed next to her! And worse yet, she’d been sleeping on his chest in his arms as though they were lovers…

The Korinthian woman blushed as she slowly, gently crawled out of Maddox’s arms. For a moment, she looked at him and brushed a strand of dark hair away from his face.

I see the way you look at me… Lucifine thought. Do you really want me? What is it that you want?

Maddox was a riddle to her… He was supposed to be a lady’s man, but with her, she couldn’t tell what his intentions were. Lucifine sighed and quietly crawled out of bed. She was still wearing the dress, supposedly his sister’s, and picked up her bloody shirt. She quietly stole out of the cottage and found her way to the creek out back.

I don’t care if there were other women… she thought as she washed her shirt on the rocks. I just wish you would be honest about it…

When she’d washed the bluish blood out, she crept back in, started a fire and hung her shirt to dry. At least she’d have normal clothes to wear today. She couldn’t fathom wearing a dress while she traveled.

When her shirt was dry, she got dressed in that and the soft leather pants and boots again. The dress, she put away in the small closet. Lucifine went to cabin’s small larder and on a plate she put some dried venison and fruits. She sat on Maddox’s side of the bed with the plate in her hand.

“Maddox” she whispered softly in his ear. “It’s morning…”

Kallisto was silently awed at how this man was so calm and fine with being unprotected. He must have been pretty strong to not worry about his lack of clergy. A few days ago everything had been normal... well as normal as things could get in a war torn continent.

And then everything had fallen to Hell.

She wondered briefly what she had really been expecting. Had she really thought that she would kill Sardonica? That she would witness this feat? She didn't know but right now she was curious about this God and in the back of her mind she was reminded that there was still Dorin.

"I would much appreciate it..." She said realizing that she had been quiet for a while. "..." She fell quiet again as she idly ran her fingers up and down the bow just getting a feel for it.

"Do you have any Priestesses?" She asked suddenly. She remembered him saying Priests but what about the female counterpart?

Maddox had long felt her move from his arms, the gentle rustling as she removed herself from the covers had truely pulled him from the sweet smelling dream land he had made for himself. He lay there, eyes closed to the tiny bit of light peeking in through the window, and tried to think. Yes, that dress had not belonged to his sister... he had no sister... But what was he supposed to say?

'This dress belonged to a young elf girl that was almost as drunk as I was.'

No... that would have landed him in a pot of boiling water.

His eyes opened as he stared up at the beauty before/above him. "What sort of good deed have I done to land myself in heaven? With an angel no less..." He said as if he was still half asleep. He smiled at her before getting up. He wore only his pants from last night.

"What are you doing up so early? Are we snowed in?" He asked.

"There are plenty of women warriors who follow me, but no Priestesses. I...haven't found the right one."

The young god yawned and stretched out in front of the fire. Others had gone to their tent, but he'd leave his for the changeling.

"You should get some sleep, Kallisto" Ferren said as he gestured to his tent. "We have a long journey ahead of us..."

"Thank you once again Ferren..." She said with a smile. "I shall keep you in my prayers..." She promised.

For a moment, she wanted to give him a gentle kiss, but she handed him the plate and move to a chair opposite of him. She unsheathed Tempest and inspected the rapier. It needed a good cleaning and a good run with a whet stone...

"We're not snowed in too badly--I was able to get out and wash my shirt this morning. My horse should be able to make it through the worst of it. I feel strong enough to summon her... She's fast so we should reach Deshtal in a good amount of time."

Ferren nodded and gave the wolf girl a gentle smile.

"Sleep well, Kallisto."

The young god looked up at the sky. He watched over the camp and every once in a while, his thoughts drifted to Kallisto.

Perhaps she's the Priestess I'm looking for. We shall see...

In the morning, Ferren's men broke camp and the woman who had healed Kallisto came to her tent with fresh clothes for her.

"I'm Adirah" she said, as she handed over the clothes. "Ferren wanted me to give these to you."

The older woman saw the bow and smiled slightly.

"He favors you. I don't recall him ever giving anyone such a gift. You are truly a blessed young woman."

That moment they had shared was an interesting one to be sure. He had seen that look and damned be it if her didn't almost reach up and draw her down to kiss him. But he couldn't... He could but he wouldn't. There was no time for such things and even tough he really really really wanted to touch and kiss her as no other man should have... he wouldn't do that to her.

"I knew today was going to be a good day," he said with her news of the horse. "Are you sure she can make it?" He asked suddenly, "It gets very hot in Deshtal... even in the winter..." He sounded a little worried for the snow creature.

Her dreams were plagued that night... Images of Maximus trying to save her, flashes of what happened between her and Dorin that night... And this new man. She woke when her leg twitched harshly and she was soon plagued by a charlie horse. She silently cursed the leg as she ran her fingers up and down the afflicted muscles trying to stop the spasming.

Finally she managed to put the muscle at ease only to see the woman from yesterday smiling at her. "Thank you," she said accepting the clothes from the woman. She found herself blushing at the thought of being favored.

"He's just being kind to me because of the losses I have suffered," she said trying to brush it off with a simple explanation. She rose to her feet quietly shedding her cloak before sliding on the hunting pants and the white blouse. It was obvious that the blouse was a little too big for her, but with some tightening and readjusting she had it covering her for the most part... She slipped the cloack back on and made her way out of the tent where the men were waiting to break it down.

She had that commanding pressence and smiled as her tail, she was forced to rip a hole in the pants wagged happily. Her hair had been brushed and it was clear that she was far better off now... and she had new boots which fit!

"Hot? I... I think I can keep her summoned, but... it'll likely take a lot of effort."

The last time she'd put a lot of effort into her snow magic, it had exhausted her. She didn't like feeling vulnerable because of it... Lucifine resheathed Tempest and strapped the rapier on.

"How's your arm? When we get to Deshtal, I'd like us to spar. I want to make sure it's in good shape..."

It is said that she would have suffered a great loss, but she would be so strong that when she wielded Talos she would only have vengence for her arrows. She is destine to become his greatest priestess..."

The older woman left Kallisto to dress, and when the wolf girl came out, her tent was pomptly taken down.

Ferren saw Kallisto dressed in storm blue with Talos at her back. For a moment, he was in awe of her. She had been transformed by something as simple as sleep and it warmed him to see her in better spirits.

"I trust you slept well, Kallisto?" he asked.

Kallisto smiled at the man as he spoke. "I am doing much better thank you," she said as she adjusted the bow on her back. It was mighty heavy for just a little bow. She felt as if there was so much more riding on her now than before...

Had he given this to her to test her?

She wondered about this god.

"Do you know how to get to Deshtal?" She asked as she waited to see how they would be traveling.

Ferren cupped his hands and blew into them. From his breath, a hawk formed and its windy body shifted slightly. He threw it up in the air and it hovered, waiting for his command.

"Find the path." he told the hawk.

The airy creature screeched as it rose high in the sky.

"He'll lead us to where we need to go. Come, Kallisto--We'll find our way."

"Find a way?" She asked. "Aren't you worried about what we might run into?" She asked as they started walking. They would need to keep the Hawk in sight for them to really be sure of where they were going.

"Ferren... How long have you been a God?" She asked.

"Alright" Lucifine said.

They stepped out of the cabin that was still half covered in snow. Lucifine focused on the cold, and gathered it into her. The snow started to swirl before her and the snow horse took shape. She mounted first, and then the elf behind her.

"Just tell me where to go..."

It felt good to have Maddox close to her again, and the prospect of sparring with him was nice as well.

"Perhaps when this is all done and if I find Deshtal to my liking, perhaps I can find a place amongst the elves there..."

"I'd like that," Maddox said as he held onto her hips. The horse gave a smooth ride that was for sure but for how long would that last. Deshtal wasn't at all a cold place... He moved with her... with the horse as they road. Surely this was what it was like to really enjoy the company one was with.

"I mean... if you don't like Deshtal... I might have to follow you and make sure you find a good place..." He said coughing slightly.
