World Trade Center-Plane Crash

our canadian borders were closed down completely for a while today, but they are open in some areas now.
if you know anyone who has to travel back across the borders here, allow for very long delay times as there is a very intense search of all vehicles and persons and documents.
i cant believe this has happened. it is like a hollywood movie gone bad.
our airports are closed except for diverted u.s. airflights.
we have even closed down th CN Tower in toronto and our military bases are all on high alert.

my brother-in-law is confined to base....they have been told they going they just don't know where yet..........i have friends who are coming back from ohio today sheesh.........i can't get their cell phone, and no answer at home yet .......this horrifying:(

I know we are focusing on what should be done but I can't help but feel deep sorrow and pain for the pilots of those planes and those on board. I can't imagine the depth of the fear they felt. I hurt for those who were on the ground and in the towers. For the families who are missing loved ones.

I feel so helpless living on the West Coast.

gas stations have closed around town here.

It is being reported that the grocery stores in NYC are swamped due to the fear that people believe there will be a food shortage.

They are currently evacuating the city of Oak Ridge. If they were to bomb Oak Ridge, the entire state will be obliterated due to the nuclear facilities there.

They're showing on the local news channel how most of Downtown L.A. is pretty much a ghost town right now. The whole place has been evacuated and they're not sure when they'll let people go back to work there. This has to be the quietest I've seen the place in my life.

Reactions around the world.

Reich Kansler Gerhard Schroder - Germany. Sides with USA and condems all terrorist actions.

Same thing for The rest of Northen Europe. Sorry but I ahve no reactions from South Europe yet.

Palestinian leader Arafat tries to cover his ass, and officially condems the terrorist actions, same thing with other Middle East Countries.

As far as I know, NATO is at highest alert right now, and will decide what to be done around 6 pm US eastern time.

My heart goes out to all who were killed in this tradegy, and to their family and friends.

Xander I don't think we'll be going to war at all. I'm sure that the leaders of the democratic worlds are wise enough to avoid that.

But I am sure that they'll do all they can to hunt the people behind this down, and lock them up.

I know that all of the leaders of the European countries will give all the support that they can to the states when they need it to figure out who was behind it.

A good link from CNN

CNN have removed everything else from their website so many more people can access it.

We don't know where this will lead.......

But, one thing for sure, those responsible will suffer consequences beyond their wildest imaginings. There will be no safe haven.

Never said:

Yes there is, if we kill Bin Louden and he's not the one who did it the killers get away and are never punished. Don't mistake a witchhunt for justice.
We find out who did it - we don't just guess.

Shoot all the bastards, sort 'em out later. Don't stop with Bin Laden. We should take out everyone who has ever been associated with a terrorist attack against any country.

I do hope that we're not going to war.

BUT it has been aired here in Michigan that US is on Defcon 5, and on Delta Alert worldwide.

One thing that I have no doubt about though, is that whoever, or more likely WHATEVER did this, will pay with the highest price possible.

.....That is the most bloodthirsty, saddest thing I've seen so far. Kill anyone. That's what they just did.

Agreed, Nathon. We need to know who our target is, and not descend into the same pit as the terrorists. But once we know, no pussyfooting around.

The problem is, if it is Bin Laden, Clinton had already fired a shitload of cruise missles at the Afganistan caves where he was hiding to no effect. We had built those caves to help the Afgans defend themselves against Russian carpet bombing.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Justice is what I'm hoping to see, not a witchhunt.

Please read before you comment. I am only advocating that we kill all known terrorists.

Hardly the slaughter of innocent lambs you seem to think it is.

I have to agree with Never

It is important first to find out who is responsible. I remember the Murray building in OK - EVERYONE was saying it was Arab terrorists. Some people were even attacking people of Arab extraction in So Cal. Then is came out that the terror came from within.

I would agree that it would appear that due to the complexity of the attack, and the almost perfect syncronization, that these perpetrators were well-aquainted with what they were doing. Not a bungling Timothy McVeigh.

But let us find out just who the enemy is first.

BTW, no disrepect intended here, but has anyone heard what the UN's official word is on any of this? It would be interesting to hear what the UN has to say if, and that's a big if, the people responsible are somehow related to the move to "free" the Palestinians.

Kill all known terrorists.

Create dozens of martyrs.

Watch this happen again, and again.

Murder is THEIR way.

Justice is the American way.

Even the French have called for the eradication.......not just punishment of the terrorists. I agree.

What you seem not to realize is that, whether we like it or not, we are at war. Killing your enemy in wartime is not murder, it is justice.

I saw pictures of people dancing in the streets in Palestine in joy of what happened to the americans. I think those people are just so fucked up in their head when they do that!

And how do you find cowards who hide in the midst of civilians? Unless you can find a definite connection to a government sponsored campaign (like Reagan did with Libya), there is nobody to declare war against. Not war as we have defined it, anyway. Do we wipe out a town or city because we know that terrorists are hiding there, and thus kill innocent civilians? Eye for an eye is not easy to do. If we react the way we want to, lashing out in fury, we'll alienate some of the world, almost all of which is on our side, for the moment. Answers are easy to scream into the air, but difficult in this case to put into practice.

Things are shutting down here in Portland. We've been asked not to use cell phones.

The Red Cross isn't taking blood donations from Oregonians today, they haven't said why. (Registered just explained why...thank you)

Umatilla Depot is on high alert. Dams are closed. NW Medical Teams on high alert.

Prayer/Vigil's are being scheduled all over the area for tonight to pray for our country.

Everyone is angry right now, everyone wants vengence. Remember, revenge is a dish best served cold. Yes, we could go in a turn Palestine into a glass parking lot, but it would not stop the terrorism. It would only drive it deeper. Our leaders and the leaders of the world need to find a way to cripple and destroy from within.

I personally have no problem with declaring war, even if it means the lives of noncombatants. I have never felt remorse for the counterstrikes the US have launched, I have no intention of changing. I understand the anger and the desire to obliterate these people utterly. Hell, they are celebrating and handing out candy in some Middle Eastern countries. I would love to wipe the smug grins from from their faces.

However, I have no desire to see more American lives lost to play tit for tat. Find a way to destroy the terrorists totally, not just drop bombs.

In any war, there is always 'collateral damage'. In any event, those who harbor terrorists are not innocents.
