World Trade Center-Plane Crash

WOW, amazing to read the first ten or so pages on this thread.

Brought back the shock and horror of it all in more vivid way than the news does today.

Thanks for reposting this, and may the people who died that day rest in peace.

truly an unforgettable day of horror.

a question, though: for those personally involved, who will never ever forget, do they ever wish to stop being reminded every year so publicly, or does embracing the very real public remembrance something that helps them cope better with intensely personal distress?

I've posted in other threads on this subject, and I will post the same thing I've said before (edited)... and this time, it weighs heavy in my heart. Because of my beloved's illness, this may be the last time we celebrate this day together.

Today marks a tragedy in American history. 3000 lives were lost because of the hateful, fanatical ravings of a group of individuals who's sole purpose is to create chaos and cause death and destruction in order to further their own agenda(s). The attack upon the World Trade Center buildings, as well as the Pentagon and the failed attempt with the Capitol building/White House was evil and tragic. Innocent lives were lost because of hate and intolerance, propagated by the radical and insane minds of cowards who brainwash others into doing their bidding and calling it 'God's will'.

I mourn with the families of those who were lost and give them a respectful 'moment of silence'... but I will not mark this day with tears and bitter resentment. Those who attacked the United States deserve whatever punishment they will inevitably receive, from humankind or God (if any), and I share in the anger that is felt by all who were affected by this atrocity. We now know that the one behind this abominable act of cowardice, as well as many of his followers, has been punished and will never again harm another human being. Whether or not this inhuman monster has been punished by God (if any), that is for religious scholars and speculators to ponder.

But there are those who direct their hate towards people who had nothing to do with the attack and they base this hate upon unjustified accusations, be it their target's appearance, religion, and/or way of life, and stubbornly continue to do so to this very day. For some of these people, it is all they've known: hate, bigotry, and intolerance, whether it be directed at a legitimate target or not. I pity them, for some were raised this way; raised to keep the hate going whether it is justified or not... and on this day, I refuse to add to that hate.

Because for me, this day is a time of happiness. This day is a time for celebration. This day is one of the most important days of my life.

This is the day, twenty-five years ago, the woman that I love with all of my heart walked down the aisle to me, accepted the ring I offered, and said "I do".

Today is my wedding anniversary, and I will not mark it with hate... instead, I will celebrate it with love.

It helps me and my family and it is VERY much appreciated!

thankyou, slave. it's a question i was reticent to ask, but hoped for a deeper understanding - and you have offered me that. :rose:

I am sorry. Here I am with my one sentence to your wanting a deeper understanding. For me, to have this "forgotten" or disregarded would upset me. I cannot read or watch anything about that day since, I would say, the day after it happened till this very day.

There is no harm in asking. I thank you for your curiosity.

One thing I do remember after having living here for so long and living directly through that and seeing it all come down in real time, is having the sense of not feeling any future whatsoever.

And then, the years pass from that moment and you see the future developing, in myriad ways. Amazing and fortunate, to still be here in the now a decade and some change later, when I couldn't see or even believe in this now back then.

Still remembering.

Gods I hate today. I feel like an alien since I have very little memory of this day.

no no, slave - your answer helped. to put it into context, i know several people personally involved and tend to send a small note each year; i wondered if that sort of thing, and all the public remembrances, might be at all discomforting when they'd rather just move forward, needing no further reminder of the day beyond their own memories. i suppose it might vary with the individual, but i'm happy you draw support from the annual displays of emotion/remembrance. :rose:

horrific as it was on tv, in real time, it's impossible to imagine what went through your head and heart (and soul) being there, zumi. :rose:

life always moves on. it's cool you are able to appreciate the potential of the future now

And we'll be much better off when the rest of you bitches stop commemorating this day.

Actually, we'll be much better off when the world is not given reasons to have days like this to commemorate for this reason, period.

These things will always happen every now and again and we'll learn from them when they do happen. I just don't see what benefit we're getting at this juncture from this. I hate to get all Saturday Morning Cartoon but I don't see how we hope to win over the hearts and minds of the Islamic Moderates by having what amounts to national I hate Arabs day celebrated once a year.

:)

It comes down to the individual. You are right. As in anything in life, how a person deals with a situation is so wide and varied.

Today's local arts weekly has a full page ad from Rethink911.org with tripe about WTC7, so there are those who would rather hate nameless corporate and government interests instead of Arabs.

You know what? I'm okay with that. I think that's the one of the few groups that we can all unite behind hating and we'll be better off when they're all gone.

Truly.
Gotta wonder what it must be like to experience what you described, all the time.

I can fairly safely say hell will freeze over and Trump will give away his money before that happens. What we seem to forget is 9/11 was an isolated incident not a regular occurance. As Ishmael correctly pointed out you've got more to fear from deer in this country than terrorists.
