Young Justice/Teen Titans (OOC)

What bugged me most was that they were able to tell she needed to see where she was going just by looking at the residual metahuman particularite left behind, or whatever it was called. They should not be able to know she relies on a line of sight without actually analyzing her eyes and brain. But then they contradict that by having her teleport from what appears to be a windowless armored truck backwards into the car, away from her line of sight. I was like WTF?!?!?!

It had a window...she got out the same way she got in, by using her telescope to spy through the glass.

Civilian Life... when she gets one

Wreathed in Darkness

Real Name: Rachel "Rae" Roth
Age: 18
Birthday: October 31st
Birthplace: Phoenix, Arizona

Skills/Gear/Equipment

Raven possesses strong self-defense capabilities, as part of her indoctrination-- the discipline attained during her martial training contributes to her ability to master her own emotional states.

She speaks and reads several ancient "mystical" languages used for "magical" texts.

Her mental training is sufficient that she has tightly-reinforced blocks against telepathy-- if one's psionic prowess is sufficient to break through these blocks, one will receive agonizing "demonic" psychic backlash, mental howling and images of blasted wastelands. Not the funnest mind-meld ever.

The chakric gem in her forehead's "Third Eye" is an ancient but advanced crystalline computer made of Nth Crystal (derived from the same ore from which is forged Nth Metal), enabling her to "scry" impossible distances and make the vast trans-spatial and molecular calculations required for her teleportation.

Powers/Abilities

Raven's primary ability is teleportation. She "magically" accesses the plane of Dark Energy that pervades our Universe like background noise, and transmitting herself and up to twelve other people through the Dark Energy plane on carrier signals called "Zeta Beams." The process is instantaneous but not effortless for her. This sometimes causes Dark Energy to bleed into our plane, and the interaction between planes causes Raven to appear to have a shadowy aura.

Using her chakric gem, Raven can calculate her Zeta Beam transmissions with absolute precision, avoiding merging her teleportees with extant molecular structures. Occasionally, Raven can use this to consciously "scry" or "remote view" distant locations, but as the calculation process is usually subconscious and instinctive, this takes a great deal of effort for her, not to mention meditative preparation.

Raven can also take advantage of the skewed physics of Dark Energy planar interactions in order to fly and levitate.

Because of Raven's hybrid "demonic" physiology, a loss of control of her mental state will cause a biological shift into an alternate, terrifying, quasi-"Lovecraftian" form. It's to our benefit that she has such discipline-- and that she usually wreathes herself in darkness. Such loss of control is impossibly dangerous-- an unregulated vortex of Dark Energy could consume all matter within the localized gravity well and skew the orbits of all other planetary bodies system-wide.

Background

Raven was born in Phoenix, Arizona in the care of The Church of Blood, the Western denomination of The Cult of Azarath, based in Zandia. The circumstances of her conception and birth remain a mystery to her, but she was always taught-- it was forcibly ingrained in her with terrible brainwashing-- that she was the daughter of the great demon Trigon. His daughter, they told her, and the living key to freeing him from his imprisonment in The Abyss.

But for all the nature and the nurture in the world and in "Hell," there remained a spark of something in Raven that even The Church of Blood could not stamp out: a conscience.

As a result, Raven has fled her occultic captors and now seeks forces strong enough to oppose them-- and to help her escape her supposed "destiny" of bringing about The End of Days.

Raven's road to rehabilitation may prove to be a long and difficult one. Her personality is badly damaged, and she verbalizes very little-- her sentences are short and clipped, her replies are often one word. One can only hope she finds the kind of friends that will allow her to heal and open up while still keeping control.

So, how many does that make now? Including Raven? Also, I'm beginning to see some specialization within the team. If this were a traditional rpg...

Nightwing - Leader
Miss Martian - Psychic Caster
Superboy - Fighter/Tank
Tigress - Ranger
"Star" Lee - Ninja?
Beast boy - Beastmaster
Natasha - Tank
Raven - Arcane Caster

Am I missing anyone?

Natasha would be Tank/Artificer, and Raven's really only a teleporter in this version, though she does so by arcane means. Would that make her a Summoner/Banisher?

...maybe instead of "Azarath Metreon Zinthos" she should start yelling "Accio" and "Depulso" instead? XD

I did consider giving her the ability to walk through walls, but I wasn't sure if that would be treading too much on the Martian powerset should M'gann develop those powers sooner rather than later.

I think Raven will be showing up after the initial Superboy arc, possibly after Santa Prisca with Kaldur, depends when Jeff thinks is good.

Oh, I guess that simplifies things now , doesn't it? This is the first time I've heard the term Artificier used, but I'm familiar with its application here. Growing up we called em gadgeteers. Artificier sounds... I dunno. I guess the first thing when you say that, most people think what? That's how I feel about that. It has a esoteric sort of feel to it. Like you wouldn't know what it meant unless you were well read or just really into D&D. Then you would know the names of all the obscure classes and such.

So Raven is just a banisher huh? I guess I can live with that. I'd like to see her summon some rift demons though, that'd be kinda cool and fits within her narrative. Maybe it's a little bit of my wanting her to be like charmcaster , since we're on the subject of ben 10 and all.

You want her to be involved with Kaldur somehow? How so?

Yeah I guess ninja is a good enough discriptor. In the interest of momentum if Jeff hasn't posted by Monday at lets say 9pm PST we'll assume that he let everybody in, he and Tigress are either pulled aside or Tigress can come back because Nightwing got a cats while we introduce ourselves and we'll play it by ear from there okay?

I only used "Artificer" because I thought we were going off a fantasy-game paradigm with "Ranger" and "Tank," heh. Not to mention, on autopilot Steel's armor makes a Hell of a Warforged.

"Gadgeteer" is nice, too, though, or "Engineer."

Raven is a teleporter, herself and others. I only used the Summoner/Banisher terms because, again, trying to fit it into the fantasy game thing. Although Summoner's kind of on the nose-- considering her created purpose is to Summon an archdemon.

Maybe since she can read magic, she'll develop further mystical abilities from books and stuff as we go? I just didn't give her the telekinesis and extrasensory abilities because I was worried about treading on Miss Martian's toes too much, which left teleportation in Raven's traditional powerset.

I adore Charmcaster, though I feel like a powerset like hers would be too ill-defined and omnipotently-versatile to fit well into Jeff's world. Better to give a character one primary "mystical" knack than a laundry list of powers she can conjure at a wandflick.

As for her being involved with Kaldur, well, I'm not opposed to that, he's Hella pretty, but I was referring to the timing of it. I'm not sure when Jeff wants me to phase Raven in, I just know it's not right away. It might be after we get Superboy, it might be after we run into Kaldur with the whole Bane thing. You know?

I wouldn't mind a little more character interaction if we're killing a little more time 'till Jeff feels better.

Especially if it gives Nat the chance to josh with Star a little more about how there's suddenly another green person about-- she knows he's not racist, but she wouldn't be able to resist a good running gag.

That's the plan. Everybody is let in and then we can play together, and I don't think there is another green person around unless I read that wrong. I think Martian is still disguised but I read that in a rush.

Oh, that's right.

Well, she can save the joke for later.

Understandable. I didn't know you meant to introduce Raven a little after superboy's cadmus arc, I was a little unsure what you meant there at first, but I understand what you're getting at now. The way you phrased it, made me think they'd be working together in some capacity. I guess not.

By the way, I've already come up with a name for and a general outline for Kaldur's arch. I was thinking The Man with the Serpent Tattoo . This would take place sometime after his initial confrontation with the team. His motif being that of a sea serpent. An eel if you want to be a dick about it.

Yeah, sorry about that.

Though again, I'm not opposed to the idea if Jeff thinks it's a good one?

I love a good character-arc, looking forward to it!

I do in fact want to be a dick about it and Sea Serpents for starters are real (if small) and are reptiles and the mythological sea serpents are also always depicted as reptiles. Eels are fish. Huge difference. IT's kinda like calling a dolphin a fish.

Anybody object to my tomorrow at 9 declaration? It'll just be us small talking and learning who's on the team and that kind of shit but it'll keep the momentum going and that's important for these things.

Edit: And what we/I will do for everybody is every few pages we'll post a highlight reel/summary that will look something like this.

  • Tigress, Star, Miss Martian, Beast Boy and Nightwing join the team
  • Miss Martian and BB sing "It's not easy being green"
  • Star & Steel hitting it off
  • Nightwing announces mission to Cadmus

Because I know personally even if you want to get caught up often times multiple pages that are ultimately fluff are near impossible to read. Second sometimes we need to recall something. It won't be a blow by blow but more of "LAST TIME ON" and . . .Lit's spoiler tags are terrible to the point of being unfunctional so I'd love to say we'd use them but we won't. maybe linked.

Yes, Miss Martian is currently not green, although I didn't make that entirely clear so well spotted :D.

Pffffft, don't worry about treading on my toes, I can shapeshift and make them flat right ;)? I do appreciate your diplomacy though :). Got to leave the green girl something to do XD? I personally always try and avoid replicating other's powers/roles in things like this, I just find it boring :/. Oh the fun to be had with teleportation though :D.

I guess we don't need the bioship then :p? Teleportation seems a much more stylish way to travel

Edit: Oh and yeah, sounds good Sean Renaud :)

Miss Martian is unique enough that I assumed if you meant she was obvious you would have stated. But the jokes at my expense should be sooner than later. Specially with him being a greenist.

Are we running with Miss M and Beast Boy being "related"?

OMG. I want to curl up into a ball and just die right now. Okay, my situation as lead to some sort of gastrointestinal obstruction or swelling that makes it very hard to take a shit, and THIS HAS TO BE THE FUCKING WEEK MY CAT GOES INTO HEAT FOR THE FIRST TIME. I haven't had a chance to get her fixed yet, but now I wish I would have done it sooner because her yowling is so loud the neighbors can probably hear it. Do you have any idea how annoying it is when you feel like you're body is just giving up on you, you're exhausted, and you can't get enough sleep because of a wailing cat? My tax return is scheduled to be on my card by Wednesday, so first thing I'm doing is getting the cats fixed and then going to the doctor. I've looked up an Internist in my area and as soon as my money is on my card, I'm calling to set up an appointment. I have health insurance through work, but I still have copays or coinsurance for visits and procedures.

As for the RP, if you guys wanna roll forward later tonight like you said, that's fine. My sister will be home from work soon and so hopefully she'll be able to keep Cleo (the cat in heat, not the one on my shoulder in the pic), occupied for a few hours so hopefully I can get some sleep. If I feel okay when I wake up, I'm going to try to work on posting. I'm off work tonight, but I was off last night and all I did was stare at the TV all night watching a Friends binge on Netflix. I haven't even touched a video game since I got ill. Not even on my phone. Most days I just want to stare at shit until I'm tired enough to go back to sleep. Honestly, if I had to live like this long-term, I'd probably just take my whole bottle of sleeping pills and be done with it.

Sleep, since we have your blessing I'd like people to post as if Nightwing let them in as of now and Nightwing for the moment is off taking a call from Bats.

We'll set a soft barrier of Wednesday (which I'll be busy during) and again on Friday to start the mission.

Is the highlight reel to your liking? I know you're gonna want to get caught up when you come back but seriously Star, Steel, Beast Boy and Miss Martian are going to burn half a page on how silly it is for a black guy to be weirded out by a green person. (Even though it's totally not and if we meet any hawks he's gonna freak out again.

I think it was said best in "New Frontier"

General: An Alien landed.
Superman: I'm an alien
General: Your a white kid from Kansas, this is an alien.
::Shows him MM in his alien form.::
General: Big difference.

Projects get well vibes at Jeff

Considering I'm introducing her as being a relatively new arrival to Earth I don't think it would really fit. On the other hand...

Gonna PM you as I don't want to spoil the show if anyone here has not watched it, once we get to that point in the RP I disown all responsibility ;).

Yeah, I think that will be more than slightly entertaining XD. Although Megan probably won't get it :p

Hey Jeff. Hope things get better for you. I went through almost a year of useless procedures on my neck trying to determine why I was in intense pain, having muscle weakness and spasms where I would drop/throw/crush things in my hand. 9 neck procedures I think it was later I was finally given a diagnosis and told that a life time of pain management was my future. I know how it can be.

Bottom line is that I have been there and hope you get better.

Thanks, everyone. And the highlight reel sounds cool. I will also continually edit my first post to put summaries of events that have happened in chapters or issues. The highlight will remind us of what has happened recently while the chapter/issue summaries will show a rundown of everything from the beginning.

I feel pretty good right now after taking like a nine hour nap, though I did wake up multiple times to my cat yowling. I've discovered if I pet her and scratch right above her ass, she doesn't yowl as much, just meows and rolls around affectionately. But now Cheetara is getting jealous of how much attention her sister is getting, lol.

I'm gonna eat something and get the new episode of Walking Dead downloading, then I'm going to work on the post. My head is not hurting me right now and the body aches are minimal, so lets hope it lasts a while, lol.

That sounds horrible. Do they know what caused it?

LOL. Actually, Nightwing and Bats aren't on speaking terms, but that's okay, I have an idea that also incorporates how Nightwing recruited M'gann, so I'm gonna roll with it. I'll cover the call with bats, finish the briefing, and then have Dick respond to Artemis.

I can absolutely edit my post as need be if it needs to be someone other than Batman, or whatever you like.

Sorry for the oversight.

Or you know they are on "talking terms." I haven't read the IC post but even under the worst terms I imagine Dick and Bruce were cool enough that hey this chick is cool wouldn't be something they couldn't call. It's obvious in most tellings that Nightwing not getting info on Gotham when he visits has more to do with his pride than Bruce not providing it. So in this case he was contacted seems to work.

Dick left Gotham mostly because of Bruce. He is furious at Bats right now. As said in his character profile, "Barbara broke his heart and Bruce crushed his soul." or something to that effect, lol. But the call works. See, I'm just gonna say Nightwing was in contact with J'onn about Cadmus but begged him to keep it a secret from Batman. J'onn agree to send M'gann to help, but as soon as she was gone, he began worrying more and more and at a League meeting Bats could tell something was up and kept pushing him until he spilled. Now Bats is calling to bitch out Nightwing haha.
