‘Selma’ director Ava DuVernay says dashcam video of Sandra Bland arrest was doctored

Ava DuVernay, who directed the Oscar-nominated civil rights movement film Selma, suggested on Tuesday that the dashboard camera footage of Sandra Bland’s arrest earlier this month was altered.

UPDATE: Texas officials deny editing Sandra Bland arrest video — blame irregularities on ‘glitches’

“I edit footage for a living. But anyone can see that this official video has been cut,” DuVernay posted on Twitter, while linking to an article by journalist Ben Norton listing what appears to be discrepancies in the footage released earlier in the day by the Texas Department of Public Safety. DuVernay’s statement can be seen below:

Story starts to fall apart.

Nice White Dad Mysteriously Dies In Police Custody, We Can Talk Police Brutality Now?

Saturday evening, Troy and Kelli Goode of Memphis headed off to a Widespread Panic concert in nearby Southaven, Mississippi. What should have been a nice night off for two young parents ended with Troy, a 30-year-old chemical engineer, loving husband and devoted daddy of a 15-month-old, being hogtied by the Southaven police, and soon after dying in their custody. One of the family’s attorneys, Tim Edwards, explained the timeline of events to the Huffington Post:

The couple was driving away from the concert venue when Goode exited the vehicle near a local shopping center.

“He was intoxicated and his wife was driving,” Edwards said. “He was acting erratically and got out of the car for reasons unknown.”

Goode’s behavior prompted someone to call the Southaven Police Department. When officers arrived on the scene, Goode allegedly resisted arrest.[…]

Goode — who, according to Edwards, had asthma and carried an inhaler — was arrested for disorderly conduct. For reasons not yet clear, Goode was hogtied by officers and placed facedown on a stretcher belonging to a responding ambulance, the lawyer said.

So … can we talk about police brutality and stuff now? Or is it Too Soon again? We never can figure out how the timing works on this subject.

But, but, but we can never talk about police killing white folks.

Two hours later, the family was notified that Goode had died. And how? Well, Southaven Police Chief Tom Long first suggested that Goode was “acting erratically from an alleged LSD overdose,” which is interesting, because people really don’t die from LSD overdoses, even if, as has been reported in some outlets, dude did some acid that night. Kevin McCormack, another of the family’s attorneys, told Wonkette that it’s “extremely premature of the Southaven Police Department to say it was an LSD overdose,” considering how long it takes for full autopsy and toxicology reports to come back. But maybe these Mississippi officers are so experienced with the well-known American epidemic of acid-related cop deaths that they can just tell!

Hillary Clinton: US must ‘face hard truths about race’ in Sandra Bland case

Speaking in South Carolina one day after a white man suspected of murdering nine people at a historically black Charleston church last month was charged with federal hate crimes , Clinton discussed Bland in the context of “systemic racism” in the US and high-profile deaths of African Americans at the hands of police.

“It’s heartbreaking to read of another death of a young woman, Sandra Bland. That’s why I think it’s essential that we all stand up and say, loudly and clearly, that yes, black lives matter. And we all have a responsibility to face these hard truths about race and justice, honestly and directly,” Clinton said.

Good luck with that!

‘The video is not good': Cincinnati braces for footage release in campus cop killing of Sam Dubose

An Ohio prosecutor is refusing to release body camera video from the fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man during a traffic stop — but top officials are suggesting that the video disputes the campus police officer’s claims of self-defense.

Officer Ray Tensing, of the University of Cincinnati police department, shot and killed 43-year-old Sam Dubose during a routine traffic stop July 19 near campus.

Multiple media outlets have sued Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters to force the release of body cam video of the incident recorded by Tensing — but the prosecutor flatly stated that he would not do so without a court order until he has presented the case to a grand jury, which could happen this week.

Another three days w/o pay for the plucky policeman?

State Trooper Goes Above And Beyond For A Family Stranded On The Side Of The Road

Tired of bad Coppers? So was I so I goggled Happy News, and found these.

"Our car broke down on the side of the road and this officer stopped to check on us. He waited with us for the tow truck to arrive, gave my kids little badge tattoos, and then sent this in the mail." She added: "We were stuck on the side of the road away from home and he spent over an hour of his time talking to my children and telling them stories while we waited for the tow truck."

This Officer Responded To A Lost Mentally Disabled Woman. What He Did Next Is Beautiful

On Friday evening the Bloomingdale Police Department responded to a call for a 21 year old mentally disabled individual that had wandered away from her home. Officers located her walking along the roadway. She was visibly scared and upset and would not come with the police. Officer Giovenco was able to calm her down and she advised that she just wanted to walk the "trails". Officer Giovenco told her that he would walk the "trails" with her. She then agreed to walk back to her home, and Officer Giovenco held her hand the whole way, which really seemed to put her at ease.
Another example of the excellent police work done by the members of the Bloomingdale Police Department. Nice Job Officer Giovenco !

San Jose cop followed black family home and held them at gunpoint for no reason: lawsuit

Even in California, no say it ain't so! :(

lawsuit filed in federal court on Wednesday accused the San Jose police department of racially profiling a black family and then holding them at gunpoint in front of their 7-year-old child for no reason.

According to a lawsuit obtained by The San Jose Mercury News, Emmanuel Stephens and his wife, Jasmine Whitley, had just picked up their 7-year-old daughter from school when Officer Alexander Keller began following them.

The lawsuit said that Keller followed the family to their home where he jumped out of his patrol car and drew his weapon on them. Keller allegedly placed Stephens in handcuffs and threatened to send their 14-year-old child to Juvenile Hall if she tried to record the incident with a cell phone.

Busted: Video shows Georgia cop slammed elderly black man’s head on concrete and lied about it

former Georgia police officer was indicted this week after cell phone video showed that he lied to justify force against a 69-year-old black man who was moving into his new home.

While responding to a suspected burglary call on May 2 with at least three other officers, then-Clayton County police officer Ryan Hall said that he attempted to arrest 69-year-old Dhoruba Bin-Wahad because he “lied” about a second burglar being in the home.

Although the “fellow burglar” turned out to be another police officer, Hall claimed Bin-Wahad was “uncooperative and verbally argumentative.”

Lies and violence, when will the cops tell the truth?

This one sounds bogus. I'm not saying it is, just that I would not be surprised if it turns out to be a story somebody made up in hopes of collecting a lot of money. First, it sound to egregious to be true. Second, if the family was prevented from getting a camera, how did the pic. of the cop with the gun come to be taken?

ETA: Here is more from the SJ Mercury News on the story: http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area...allegations-racial-profiling-by-san-jose-cops

There were some details the original article omitted, which is Par for the Course, although it may have just been space constraints.

Shutterstock pix. read the citation, Box.

If that pic is just a stock photo, rather than a photo of this actual event, it sounds even more bogus.

This article has some contradictions, mostly details: http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2015/0...n-jose-police-racially-profiled-black-family/

ETA: For one thing, the only adult in the car was the father and he had picked up both children from school. For another thing, the alleged incident happened almost nine months ago.

Officers pulled over, searched, curb-sat, cuffed or otherwise detained blacks and Latinos at far higher percentages than their share of this city's population. Yet the stops seldom led to arrests or evidence of crimes.

"According to the lawsuit, Keller then handcuffed Emmanuel Stephens and put him in the back of his patrol car..."

"Shauncey Burt, an African-American man who was stopped by San Jose police for minor traffic violations three times in five months. Each stop lasted at least 30 minutes, the suit contends, during which he was ordered to sit on the curb, and on one occasion, handcuffed, while officers searched his car. Yet the searches came up empty and Burt was given a traffic ticket only once."

The police are fishing for calm, orderly, and docile people (with money!) to arrest ?

Someone tipped the police off, that she purchased medical marijuana, and now her whole family is on a list ?

So very charming of him, to intimidate a young teen. No video, no proof of violation of rights ?

The police department is so hungry for money, they are looking to fleece law abiding, productive, and respectable citizens ?

Pay your fine, pay the court, pay your lawyer, and pay the police. Do not pass go ?

Texas sheriff refuses to turn over jailhouse video after 32-year-old gay man dies of ‘natural causes’

The family of a 32-year-old gay man who died in a Texas jail want more answers as to why he was denied his medication that led to the seizures that killed him, reports KTRK.

With Texas lawmakers looking into jailhouse reform in the wake of the recent death of Sandra Bland in Houston, the parents of Jesse Jacobs have come forward to discuss their son’s death after he turned himself into a Galveston jail to serve a DUI sentence, only to die within a week.

The parents of Jacobs, who died in March, want an investigation into what happened in the jail, however the sheriff — on the advice of the Galveston County Attorney– is refusing to turn over video fearing a lawsuit.

The jailhouse doctors are not part of the sheriff’s unit, and are contracted from an outside vendor.

Govt Contractor, probably lowest bidder too.

The Law suit should be against the Doctor, contractor. This is medical malpractice!

Gay New York man says cops called him ‘f*ggot’ after attacking him outside his home

A Staten Island man said he required surgery after being attacked and mocked with a homophobic slur by local police outside his house.

“While I was on the ground, I had mud and blood in my mouth,” 31-year-old Stuart Falcone told the New York Daily News. “One [of the officers] said, ‘Don’t let it get on you, he probably has AIDS, the f*ggot.'”

Falcone, who is gay, reportedly plans to file a federal lawsuit in connection with the June 19 incident, which was captured on camera from across the street. The footage shows four officers at Falcone’s door, before he is pulled outside and pulled to the ground.

The audio does not pick up the remarks Falcone attributed to the police, but officers can be seen pinning him to the ground as his mother stands in the background yelling. Falcone said he suffered two black eyes, a broken nose, and cuts on his face and body during the encounter, and also aggravated an injury to his foot, requiring another operation.

Apparently cops don't need no fucking probable cause.

‘I can’t breathe': Man runs into jail lobby seeking help but dies after deputies pile on him instead

A man who ran into a Dallas County jail screaming for help ended up dying when Sheriff’s deputies piled on top of him and handcuffed him Saturday, WFAA reports.

The 47-year-old man, who has not been identified yet, apparently parked his car at the county jail and ran in screaming that his wife was out to kill him. But instead of helping him, witnesses told WFAA that deputies took him to the ground and handcuffed him. One had his knee on the man’s neck.

“They had him in handcuffs, he wasn’t fighting back, he wasn’t, not letting them restrain him, he was saying, ‘I can’t breathe, I can’t breath,'” witness April Berryhill told the station. “One of the officers had him down on the ground with his knee on his neck.”

Texas Cops are cowards and assholes too, I guess.

‘It was off the wall': FL police laundered millions in drug money overseas and enjoyed lavish lifestyle

Florida cops are in it for the money, I guess.

An investigative report by the Miami Herald published today reveals that two local Florida police agencies engaged in a slick money laundering scheme ripped from a Hollywood movie, reaping a whopping $2.4 million for themselves in drug money.

The Tri-County Task Force, which consisted of officers from two small police agencies, the Glade County Sheriff’s Office and Bal Harbour Police Department, laundered millions of dollars via SunTrust Bank through countries including Panama and China, the Herald found.

WATCH: Kansas cop goes off on f*ck-filled rant, threatens to arrest man for asking him a simple question

A Kansas sheriff’s deputy has apologized after being suspended for going off on a profanity-laced tirade and threatening to arrest a man for asking a simple question about a property dispute incident in his neighborhood, reports KSN.

Harper County Sheriff’s Deputy Vance Williams said “I unfortunately used language that I should never have used,” after video of him showed him using various iterations of “f*ck” eight times in less than one minute was posted online.

According to Jeff Jacobs, who recorded the video and posted it, “You can’t talk to people like that. [Officers] are supposed to be a protector, not come over here and put me down like that just ’cause I asked a question.”

Breathe Deputy, Breathe deep.

Pot-Munching Cops Too High To Destroy All The Hidden Cameras, Oops

:)

Today our parable comes from the Book Of Chootzpah: In the Year Of the Bad Cop, the City of Santa Ana did decide that there were too many medical marijuana dispensaries operating without a license, and lo, they did send Centurions to bust some Stoners. And it came to pass that the Centurions did break down the doors of a dispensary that was already open for business, and with guns drawn did raid the place, then proceed to tear down all the security cameras. But lo, they missed one, and what a wonder did it behold: The Centurions did partake of the edibles, and found them Good. And thus were the Centurions Busted.

Among other highlights, the video shows officers munching on pot edibles; the OC Weekly transcribed a couple of them talking about the quality:

“Those candy bars are pretty good,” one of the cops remarks at 8:08 p.m., speaking with his mouth full. “I kinda feel light-headed though.”

Converted Philistines?
