Day 5: A song from a girl band

I love this band. There’s something about the vocal blend between siblings that is just perfection. I think we’ll be seeing a new album from them this summer which I am totally pumped for.

HAIM - Forever

Didn't see you posted this, but at least I picked a different song. 😘

This song is new to me. The vocals are great, but I really love the way they accentuate that bass line.

Great minds! 😉
I love this band so much. And your pick is a great one. It was on my shortlist. I couldn’t remember if I had posted it before or not.
This is one band I’d loveee to see live. If they tour after their new album drop I’m definitely going to go.

Chapell Roan is a popular artist in this thread. After I was introduced to her here by our charming Fairy Princess, I promptly went out and bought her debut album. I love all of it --the clever lyrics, the strong vocals, the complex layering, the over the top drag aesthetic, the positive queer messaging. It is just solid pop music.

Because Chappell has such a strong presence, I hadn't realized her band was all female until watching the outstanding NPR Tiny Desk concert, which everyone should go do. And since I haven't seen this song in here yet, this is the beautiful, vulnerable "California," recorded for NPR (I thought posting the entire 23-minute concert would be excessive. But go watch it.)

"'Cause I was never told that I wasn't gonna get
The things I want the most."

"California (Live at the Tiny Desk)", Chappell Roan.

My immediate thought with this prompt was Kittie, an all woman metal band from London, the Canadian one. But then I was torn, do I post a song from their first album, or from their new upcoming album? Ultimately I decided to go with a song from their first album, released in 1999 when they were but teenagers.

There weren’t a lot of all female metal bands back in 1999, let alone one that was made up of teenagers from Canada. And despite this genre of metal not really being my cup of tea, I still dug it simply for the fact that as a young woman at the time, I wanted to listen to more metal created by women. So this track will definitely not appeal to everyone, it even isn’t my favourite thing but they left an impression on me from back then that just carries into now.

Kittie - Brackish

Day 2: A collaboration between two or more artists

Aurora's been linked quite a few times in this thread, but her collab with Qing Feng, a chinese superstar is a song out of left field. They're both absolutely incredible. Especially Qing's voice when they're singing in mandarin. Contrasts. Lovely.

Qing Feng ft. Aurora - Storm

Day 3: A lesser known song from a favorite artist

The japanese music market is a bit weird. They're really slow on approving and releasing new music, so, to drive up album sales non-japanese labels have their artists record bonus tracks only available on the japanese releases.

Edguy, and Tobi in particular, is very finnicky on what goes on his albums and doesn't like this idea very much. So, to get around the issue, all his bonus tracks are humorous songs poking fun at the concept itself. Very meta.

Edguy - Life and Times of a Bonus Track (on the way to Japan)

Day 4: A song from the most recent concert you went to

Saw D-A-D back in October, and their blues rock never fails to make my heart pump and my throat scream.

D-A-D - The Sky is made of Blues

Day 5: A song from a girl band

Tegan and Sara. Love. That's all. Or, maybe...

T&S - This Is Everything.
