2009 Survivor Poetry Challenge: Discussion and Announcements

Tut Ange have you won another immunity?

Have I really? Well Damn! Four always was my lucky number (not that I'm in the habit of winning much of anything lol).

I am going to be around very, very little over the next few weeks. I have an editing deadline that is starting to loom and if I don't focus on it, I will shortly be poor (and we can't have that!).

If anyone needs me, pm me--or pm Eve or Lauren if it's a standard moderator-type question. I'll check in once or twice a day, but get paid I must, so I'll see more of you all soon...well, eventually. :)

For those who missed it, there was a slight change made to the rules:

Rules

Poems
  • There will be two lists of requirements in place for the challenge:
  • Participants are to write as many poems as possible, with each poem making use a different trigger on the List of Triggers.
  • For every two of those poems, at least one must also respond to the requirements of a different form on the List of Forms.
  • Until both lists are exhausted, no form or trigger can be used a second time.
  • If a participant exhausts both lists, that participant is allowed to keep writing, under the same rules as until then, but is no longer obliged to use any of the triggers on the List of Triggers. That participant, however, will still have to write one poem using a different form from the List of Forms for every two poems written.

Have I told you lately that I love you....

This is such a great incentive to get through the first round. Thank you for listening to our pleas and for being open minded and flexible.

Both my illustrated poems have been rejected it says they were never received but here they sit in my outbox they went through weren't bounced back or anything sigh

Annie do you have MS word or another program you can "migrate" your photos to? When CafeDuck :) posted the illustrated poem, I simply arranged the photos as clip art and then saved the whole file and uploaded it directly as a submission instead of sending a pic and text separately. of ducks and men

The poem is on the picture not seperate, I've got them in a pictures file and uploaded from there ...... what's worrying is that they say they never even got either of them. I've sent again and copy pasted the address straight from the rejection notices

Yes, I understand. You can put the photo (with your poem on it) into a word .doc file and upload it as is explained on the submission form:

If you choose to upload your poem, it should be uploaded as a plain text file with a file name ending in ".txt" if possible. If your story has bold or italics and you need to upload a Microsoft Word (.doc) or a Rich Text (.rtf) file, you can do so, but you cannot preview it online and it may take slightly longer to be posted because we must process .doc and .rtf files manually. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.

I thought I had found out the cause. I got all my info from the How to written by Neonurotic and used the submission address there but its missing a letter but on checking I did send it right. Can you give me a link for yours please?

Will see what happens this time otherwise my sweetpeas will never see the light of day unless someone else can send it in for me!

A quick but stupid question

Does the "Glosa" have to follow the pattern set in the example.

The glosa is a series of quatrains with the verse from the mote landing as L4 of the stanza. In the case of the example Lauren uses here, the glosa is in the rubaiyat formula since that's what Omar Kyaham wrote his poem in. It was a double formula challenge and her example was written by Angeline.

I think that as long as you riff off the mote in some semblance of order and pattern, then you've formed a glosa worthy of the name... Lauren will be along to clarify, I think :p.

Yeah, what she said

eh hem

Question: For the illustrated art poem thinggie-- can I use artwork that I did before to illustrate a new poem or do I need to do new art as well? Either way is fine, I am just looking for a place to start. I took lots of photos of my boy in the mud yesterday. And NO it didn't rain. We had the hose out. It is warrrrrm down here.

The mote should have between 4 and 6 lines. The glosa should have between 4 and 6 stanzas, 1 for each line of the mote, and each of those stanzas should follow whatever the pattern set by the mote.

Yeah, what she said
