2011 Survivor: Off Topic & Chatting Thread

Have you? Do you have anything to share?

I'm not participating in Survivor. I simply asked a question. What the hell is your problem? Do you have anything to share other than sniping at me?

It would seem the logical thing to do would be to contact Laurel if the Survivor moderators have been M.I.A. for so long.

But whatever. You can all continue to bitch about it for all I care.

I'm not snipping! I asked a question and you answered it. You can read whatever you want into it. Gees, I thought you liked me, MichChick.

It's just that there is contest going on and noone is taking control of it. Box is unofficial, Freddie volunteered, as well. What more can the owners be looking for in a moderator. If Crim is gone and Lauren doesn't have time, then they should replace the with another name. Move on. Life goes on and people are standing in line.

Question? You dare ask a question on the 2011 Survivor: Off Topic & Chatting Thread.

Why I ought to rip your bra off your head (lol).

This thread is used only for rants and raves, mostly rants. So, unless you have a rant, post elsewhere.

Ah, with the moderator gone and no one excited about this contest, don't you just love the peace and quiet?

Hey, news flash, unless some of you get busy writing stories, guess who's going to win the 2011 Survivor Contest? That's right, BOSTONFICTIONWRITER, er, I mean, of course, SuperHeroRalph.

C'mon, I dare someone to cheat, er, I mean, write a whole bunch of stories in the way that MungoPark, PrincessErin, and BakeBoss did to beat me in previous years.

Now, that Yoursincerely is a rant. Yeah, that's how you do it. You don't ask any questions on this thread, even though I did, but I'm allowed. I have special privileges.

Okay, I'm done. Please continue ignoring this thread.

For all those who have not been issued an official scoresheet: I have copied the scoresheet and posted it on a new thread in the Authors' Hangout forum, and you can copy it from there. I would have posted it in this forum, but I am not able to do so.

This is what I'm thinking and tell me if I'm wrong.

Even though I'm leading in the 2011 Survivor contest by a big margin, even though I've led the contest in 2007 and 2008 by big margins, I'm not going to win the Survivor contest. Big surprise.

I figure someone will just happen along and dump just enough 800-1,100 word stories on the board to steal first place from me. Just as no one complained about previous Survivor contest winners dumping inferior, abbreviated stories, no one will complain this year either, so long as they beat me and I don't win.

Now, if that scenario doesn't materialize, then this is what I figure will happen. I'll win the 2011 Survivor contest, but when I go to collect my prize, because there's no moderator, there's no contest and...well, that's it for that.

Nonetheless, win or lose, it's not about the contest with me. It's more about the story and I've had a blast writing so many stories in so many categories. This, without doubt, being able to write whatever I want, whenever I want to write it, is the best writing time of my life.

Then, again, there's always the scenario that I'll win the 2011 Survivor contest.

Nah, that will never happen.

Oh, well, it was fun to ponder.

Well, George, this is it. We're down to the wire. What do you think will happen?

Will I be declared the winner of the 2011 Survivor Contest and you be given second place?

After participating in the contest for five years and cheating me out of winning the contest twice, will I finally be declared the winner?

Or will they cancel the contest because Crimson quit after I posted 30 Valentine Contest entries in 30 different categories (lol)?

Or maybe, just as what happened in 2007 and 2008, a mystery writer, one who is already entered in the contest, of course, will dump 100 seven hundred and fifty word stories on the site to win the contest?

Tell me, do you think they'll be a 2012 Survivor Contest? Do you think they'll make you the moderator? Who do you think will be the next President of the United States? By the way, what's the next Power Ball winning number? Do you know?

These and other questions will be answered soon, no doubt (lol). We shall see. We shall see.

Oh, I'd bet they'll just leave you hanging. If the website cared anything for this contest, it would have stepped in months ago to either save it or shoot it.

As the writer with the most stories in the most categories wins the Survivor Contest, I am the winner of the 2011 Survivor Contest.

Thank you Sr71plt and PrincessErin for your kind words (vomit) and support (lol).

Hey, I'd be writing stories even if there weren't any contests. With all the theme and monthly contests nothing more than popularity contests rather than writing contest, the Survivor contest is the only contest that I have a chance in Hell of winning.

Win or lose, I had fun writing my stories.

Silly questions from a silly man.

sr71plt is right though. This contest is not as important as it once was. They don't need to entice writers with money to write stories on this site anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last year in which case for the love of God the whiner should win first place and have it be over. (although that won't happen and I can't be the only one whose been very carefully tracking ALL the competitors stories.)

Erin

By the way, Erin, I read your Winter holiday story, the gay one that posted today.

Just one question? Tell me, how can you have a gay story without any sex? I don't understand.

I'd think after writing here for 4 years, you would have grown as a writer, but you just get worse.

Maybe you shouldn't write anymore stories. Maybe you should sing or play the piano. Oh, I know, maybe, as does, BakeBoss, you should bake, instead of write.

Happy holidays and good luck in the contest. You'll need a miracle to win with that non-erotic story posted in the gay category.

My comment was to the apparent lack of website concern about the prolonged absenteeism of the contest management, not on your stories or writing. I don't care whether you win this "contest" or not. Story quality has nothing to do with this particular "contest."

Sr71, no matter where or when I post, you follow me around the board. I don't understand your attachment to me. Are you in love with me? Is that it?

Since you're here, since youre a decent writer, since you are, without doubt, a much better editor than you are a writer, give me your opinion on the Gay story that PrincessErin wrote.

Even though you freely criticize the work of others and have admitted that you never read any stories, other than your own stories, what did you think of Erin's story.

I thought, as usual, that it wasn't much of a story. All of her stories have no beginning and no end, just a middle. Her characters are always flat and never developed, consequently, her dialogue is not engaging, as it should to draw the reader to bond with her characters. Never is there any tension in her stories. They all read the same.

Then, there's the issue of sex. There was none. Now, understandably, since this is Literotica and not Sexerotica, I understand writing an erotic story over one that is loaded with sex from beginning to end is the aim of this site. Yet, surely, as a gay man, sorry, a bi-sexual man, a man who has had a cock in your mouth and up your ass, you'd want to read a story that has that kind of sexual depravity in it, would you not?

The point is this, Pal. I made a post directed to Boxlicker and not to you and not to PrincessAirHead. By the way, did you know that PrincessAirHead is (gulp) a man? Yes, she is. It's obvious by what she writes. Further, did you know that PrincessAirHead is...Bakdboss. Yep, that's true, too.

Sorry, but I'm drifting from my point. The point is this, Ace. I mind my own business and made a post directed to Boxlicker, a man that I helped get published and who has attacked me, as his thank you, and a man who has been in the Survivor contest for 9 years. Low and behold, instead of reading Boxlicker's response, you two troublemakers come along, yet, again, as always to start trouble to blame on me.

Listen, Ace, I've been around here long enough to know what goes on here. Just as this site is loaded with people with dozens of alts, professing who they aren't and even arguring with themselves to disguise who they are, this site is loade with Literotica plants, those who work or have an attachment to Literotica. You're here 24/7 Ace, even posting on Thanksgiving. I realize you have no life, but are you one of Literotica's plants?

I truly don't give a shit about the 2011 Survivor contest. It's been ruined, when the moderator walked away and Literotica didn't replace her. What does that tell you about Literotica? What does that tell you about how the writers are perceived and respected? We are not.

We all write for free, that is, except for Scouries (lol). We all want a fair chance a winning a contest. Yet, I learned long ago that these contests are merely popularity contests and have absolutely nothing to do with writing a good story, which is the reason why I've thown all my marbles in the Survivor contest, the only contest I have a chance of winning.

Only, my stories were moved out of category in 2007. The moderators said that my stories lacked sex and were therefore being transferred to the non-erotic and review category. Go check my page in 2007. I think I have 100 stories posted to non-erotic and reveiws and essays, even after Laurel had posted them in the correct category. Yet, the rules have changed and others, such a PrincessErin and Bakeboss have written dozens of stories that have no sex and, guess what? Their stories were left alone and not moved out of category and placed in non-erotic and reveiw and essay. That doesn't sound fair, now, does it? Go figure.

Then, in 2008, even though I was winning the contest and was going to win the contest, PrincessAirHead, who I thought was a friend and a woman, begged me, begged me in November 2008, to stop writing stories, so that she could win. I still have her PM, if you care to read it. I can e-mail it to you.

She wrote that her husband was out of work and she just had a baby. She wrote that she desperately needed the $500 prize to fix their car. Stupidly, I didn't post a story in all of December of 2008. You may check my BostonFictionWriter page to see. In essence, I threw the contest to allow her to win and this is the thank you I get. Had I known she was a man, I never would have allowed her to win.

Now, I mind my own business and just write my stories. Writing is my passion, you know, and I get better every year.

Since this is my last year here and since I will never post another free story on this board, after the end of 2011, if you will and if you can, please leave me the fuck alone.

Thank you in advance,

SuperHeroRalph, aka AndTheEnd, BostonFictionWriter, CarBuffStuff, PositiveThinker, and WmForrester.

I'll leave the backbiting to you. My post to this board was a smiple--and, I thought, obvious--observation and wasn't about you at all. (But then again I guess you think everything is about you).

For someone who hates the Survivor Contest, for someone who has never participated in the Survivor contest, you have a lot of "simple and obvious observations" about the contest.

Nonetheless, your history of following me around the board and sniping at me precedes you.

If all you were doing was making a "simple and obvious observation" than I apologize for trouning on your right of free speech.

Please continue with your "simple and obvious observations" without further interruption and disruption from me.

Unless there is a sandbagger doing what you describe, I see no way anybody can pass you up to win. I expect to finish in second place with a little over 200 points.

I don't know if there will be a contest next year or not. If so, I have volunteered to moderate it, and will probably be chosen. I have been around the contest longer than anybody else and I have the time, being retired.

I am not going to predict the next president on this thread. The Power Ball is a lottery in some eastern states, but that's all I know about it.

I expect to tie you for having stories and poems in the most categories. You have five immunities and have written in thirty categories. I have five immunities and have written in 27 categories, but I expect to finish the last three categories before the end of the year. Nevertheless, you do have more total stories than I have.

I also have fun writing stories. If I win $250 for second prize this year, that will amount to pennies per hour for the time I spend writing. It's a good thing I just write for fun. :)

Oh No

I hope that there is a competition next year...and at least long enough to get my act together to write stories to keep it competitive.

Looking back over my score cards, it looks like I'm at least improving each year. :D

Here are unofficial scores so far in the contest. This is almost certainly not complete, because there are probably some contestants who are keeping their scores a secret and will post them on the last day of the year. This is a list of all those who have a scorecard and/or are posting some or all their scores publicly:

Super Hero Ralph: 267 points.
Boxlicker101: 189 points
Kaishaku: 35 points.
Noira: 31 points.
Tara Neale: 26 points.
Lady Eryka: 10 points.
lostchicken: 9 points.
oOScarletWingsOo: 8 points.
theravenfox: 8 points.
Al Ussa: 5 points.
Odax: 0 points.
afternoondelight: 0 points.
veronica james: 0 points.
DecadentAngel: 0 points.

I or somebody else will be updating this list at least once before the end of the year. I don't know what will happen when the final day comes for all scores to be posted.

I think it's a good time to remind everybody also: When you submit a story or poem that will be included in your score, include a message in the Notes field that it is an entry in the Survivors' Contest. That way, it will usually get posted faster. For most items, this wouldn't matter yet, but stories and poems that are either audible or illustrated usually take much longer than other entries.

Hi Box, Merry Christmas.

I was looking over your score card and I think you made a 30 point error.

I believe you counted the 30 point bonus for entering all the theme contests twice. You gave yourself 90 points instead of 60 points.

Let me know if I'm correct. If not, than I under scored my card by giving myself only 60 points.

Thanks

SuperHeroRalph

Hi, Freddy, and Merry Christmas to you too. I think this year is the same as last year. Each theme contest entered counts five points, and there is a thirty point bonus for entering all six, for a total of sixty points. In addition, I have five, ten and fifteen point bonuses for completing ten, twenty and thirty categories. I still expect to finish all categories, and I need two more.

I notice you did not count the bonus for entering all six theme contests, so you are shorting yourself thirty points, and should have 297. Not that you need any more than you have posted, unless somebody is sandbagging like crazy.

I believe the time is about right for starting to discuss next year's Survivors' Contest, assuming there is to be such a contest. I haven't heard anything about it, but I think we should go on the basis there will be.

The only change I would advocate is clarification of chapters as opposed to a story with a sequel. I believe Crim was too stringent on this in past years. As far as I am concerned, a story should be considered to be standalone if it has a distinct beginning, climactic moment, (such as people cumming) and a distinct ending. If a story is posted about some characters, and meets these requirements, and another story is posted involving the same characters or location, and meets the requirements, but is otherwise not related to the first story, that second story should be considered to be standalone.

I like the requirement of caps, because it requires that authors write in a wide variety of categories in order to score big. In the past, some authors have written sixty or more stories in a single category, and have counted them all. This defeats the purpose of the contest, which is to write a lot of stories and poems in a a lot of different categories.

However, I suggest one exception be made to this rule, and that is on novels. Currently, only three chapters to a novel can be posted for score, and I believe that does a disservice to the readers. I'm sure most readers don't like the idea of a novel being stretched out over several years, which is what happens when only three chapters per year are posted. Therefore, I propose the cap rule be waived in this one category. If an author is going to write a novel with more than three chapters, all of them at least 7,500 words, he or she can post all the chapters in the Novels & Novellas category, but nothing else in the category. In other words, a novel with ten chapters, each 7,500 words long or longer, would be worth 24 points, but there cannot also be a novella posted for score. Of course, an author can still post three 7,500 word novellas, which would be worth ten points.

If anybody else has any suggestions to make, post them as responses. I have no authority to make rules, but I and anybody else can make suggestions.

Very good points.

I would like to comment on your suggestion regarding the novels/novellas section. You can count as many chapters of a novel as you want as long as you've filled up the other categories.
In 2008 I posted 10 chapters (8 of one story, 2 of another).

The other thing to mention is that readers do not care about the Survivor contest. I have written stories because I have been asked to continue the storyline, knowing full well that I would get no points for those stories.

If you are only writing stories to get points you will disappoint your fans. If you are writing for yourself no problem but then I'd wonder why you are posting on a website for others (aka fans) to read.

Erin

In 2008, there were no Cap limits. I looked back on my scoreboard for that year to find that. There was even a five point bonus for posting ten stories or poems in any one category.

I also write and post stories that garner no points in the Gay Male category. However, given the choice between scoring points and not scoring any, I would prefer the former, except I feel strongly enough in favor of cap limits I would not want to change them in any category but Novels and Novellas.
