That was unexpected, to say the least. Congratulations to the other winners! I was at 4.86 with 790 votes when I left this morning, and at about the time of the announcement, I was at 4.89 with 764. Even though I knew it was doing well, I expected my guesstimate of where it would land after sweeps to be outside the winner's circle. Seeing that W when I refreshed to see how many votes I'd lost since the last check an hour before certainly caught me off-guard.

I managed a decent enough showing with 4.79 - pretty much my all time highest story score with any significant amount of votes. It had a busty Playboy model, nude volleyball, Italian beaches, good food, fast cars, sex (well duh) and a dash of romance. Now off to read the the winning entries to see where that elusive extra 0.1 lies - drugs and/or rock and roll? Twin sisters? Vile sadistic acts? I'm sure I can figure it out...

My story finished about mid-pack, which I think was a fair showing. What mattered to me more was the exposure.

In the 22 days it's been up, it added easily another 70 followers to my total. With nearly 84,000 views, it became my all-time leader in that department. It surpassed, if you can believe it, my entry from last year's contest that is currently at nearly 83,000. I suspect it may have the legs to hit 100,000 views by this time next year, which would also be my first.

While I didn't see a podium finish, I still won.

I did have a notion, concocted totally in my imagination, that 4.8 was necessary to be in contention. And my entry hovered around there through the whole contest — sometimes at 4.79, sometimes at 4.82. I think it caught a bump today with a last-minute sweep, which I gather is a thing.

I don’t know how close I was to #s 1 and 2, but I’d say your 4.79 was right there in the mix.

I haven’t had a chance to read many of the others yet, but I plan to.

Like I mentioned in my grumpy rant earlier in the thread, it seems like there was more malicious voting than ever before. By my count, my story lost at least 11 votes during the last few days. And it was only up for a week or so.
