Thanks Gil, it is good her family are OK. It is sad indeed...was just watching a news report here and the devastation is unbelievable with even the cathedral a casualty. Let's hope the predicted loss of life is a huge over estimate.

BANDIT:heart: was pointing out places she had walked through only a few weeks ago on her visit to see her mum there now piles of rubble & ruin.

It's scary for sure...a guardian angel must be sitting on her shoulder to have protected her while there. Life can be so much about where you are at a particular moment...sends shivers up my spine regularly.

Thanks for the update Gil...Sure glad that Bandit's family is okay..Prayers for everyone!

They are all ok. No power or water and my brother says they have to "poo in a bag" and bury it in a hole in the garden

I spoke to my mum and bro this morning, mum was outside between the garage and fence pruning one of her plants when she got thrown to the ground (luckily it was soft grass) and had to crawl to the middle of the front lawn before she could stand up. The neighbours arrived home in their car and asked her if she was all right and she said no there's just been another bloody big earthquake (her words), the neighbour thought her car steering had gone wonky while she was driving she didn't realise there had been a quake until then. Mum stayed with her until my brother got home, although there was a bit of a panic when he couldn't find her at first!

My brother walked the 10km home from his work because no buses were running, it took him 2 hours. Kids (17 and 13) were sent home from school, my sister in law was out shopping and she had to walk a fair hike home, had to take her shoes off to get through some of the mud that had come up through the ground at one point. Mum had just got home herself about half an hour before it hit, she would have been in trouble if she'd had to walk too far (she's 74).

They're hoping they get power soon, it is on at the shop up the road where bro went to get a paper this morning. They caught 30 litres of water last night in buckets and their shade cloth so they are pretty right for that for a while. They have a gas cooker and candles and torches. The kids are pretty bored with no power though!

Family now have power after 5 days, and a trickle of water from the taps. The kids are overjoyed I guess they have been so bored without their electronic toys  They had been going to friends' places to shower and wash clothes.

My mum and brother are going to the North Island for a few days to visit friends and family. Sis-in-law and the kids are going to Timaru while they are away. Will do everyone good to get away from the aftershocks.

On another note. Sir got an email from the manager of the speedway He has been volunteering at on the fire and rescue crew for more than 20 years, effectively telling Him He's no longer wanted on the crew for "health and well being" reasons  If that were the case I know of a couple of other members of said crew who have health issues too.

The way they have gone about it is really despicable. To tell a long serving and valuable member (and a volunteer at that) that they're no longer needed BY EMAIL  Not even a phone call to discuss the issue. They've just gone and dumped Him.

I am so mad I could spit. He's really upset about this. We're never going to set foot in the place again. I hope it rains on every meeting for the rest of the season and the one after that!

This has totally ripped my heart out & the reason is bullshit! my health over the past year or so has never been better & all my doctors from specialists to GP all agree.

That makes me upset for the both of you..so unfair how they did that....I am so sorry Gil....They need their asses kicked for treating you that way!!!! Hugs to you Bandit and Gil!!!

That's more than disgusting!! Hopefully it will come back to bite them in the arse when people begin to ask where you have both disappeared to. It is sad how a little bit of power goes to the head of some all in an effort to make them feel better about themselves.:rose:

Link my brother sent to photos of the Christchurch earthquake. I recognise parts of the city I walked through on Jan 19, just over a month before it happened.

Thanks KayKat and Catalina for your thoughts. Not sure how the manager of a speedway track can suddenly become a diagnostician without seeing any medical certificates or even talking to us.

It's also amazing how you suddenly find out who your real friends are. Not one of the crew members has contacted us, apart from one guy who wanted to know why Sir has deleted him off his friends list on Facebook! *He deleted everyone to do with crew and track management after not one person replied to His email telling them He'd been sacked*. Even more gut wrenching...:(

Sending lots of positive energy and prayers to my Aussie friends. That quake was absolutely awful! The loss of life and injuries horrific.

I'm so happy to read that Bandits family is ok.

On the racetrack people. They are a real piece of work.:mad:

BANDIT's:heart: Mum & bro have taken a week get away up to the north Island visiting family & friends & his wife & kids have gone to visit other friends away from the disaster in Christchurch, at least the essential services should all be back on by their return.

I am stressed. I am not sleeping well.

New carpet is being laid next Tuesday, we are trying to pack up all the small stuff like books, videos, CDs and Sir's speedway stuff (which fills a very large bookcase on its own!)....Sir says not to stress it's not a big deal but I can't help it the disruption is driving me crazy even though it's going to be over by Tuesday afternoon!

I bought some valerian tablets here's hoping they help me stay asleep (I usually wake after 3 hours or so and struggle to get back to sleep).

I can identify. Hope you get some sleep. I am on a similar lack of sleep thing as we are trying to decide whether to move back to Oz or not and the 3 of us have reasons for moving and not moving which is causing a lot of stress trying to decide. If only we had a crystal ball. I guess for us our biggest concern is my son and what is best for him, what he would do if and when we are no longer alive and kicking, and whether that would actually change for the better if we were in Oz or stayed here. He has Asperger's so it is a concern, but as he also says, would going back to Oz be any better. At least here he has a network of carer's who would be on hand to help him if need be, though as we all know things can change over time and I am hoping we are around a few more decades yet and that in the near future he begins gaining more independence and maybe even some form of part time work if possible. Of course all this is being impacted on by this dreadful medication I have been on for 2 months....it has changed my taste, sense of smell, and worst of all is giving me terrible dreams. Not the horrific nightmare kind, just disturbing ones about living and dead family members, sometimes very strange and usually upsetting which then pushes me into deeper depression. They want me to persevere as these side effects sometimes disappear, but mine seem to be getting worse so am on the verge of demanding they change it before I totally flip my wig.

*sigh* Stress sucks don't it cat....for me it's not just the packing but organising for the dialysis machine to be dismantled and taken away and then brought back after the carpet is laid and set up again ready for Sir to dialyse. It's fitting in doctor appointments, car service and rego, dealing with Sir's depression and His own stress after the sacking from the speedway.

I'm hoping after this week things will settle back down and I'll only have to deal with the normal stress!

I have had a niggle of pain in my right shoulder and upper arm for a couple of months, I have been resting from boxing in the hope it would come right but it hasn't, so went to the doctor today (we both did). He examined me and reckons I have a small tear in one of the tendons (tendonitis) and he did acupuncture on it. It was my first experience with that and I am amazed at how much better it feels! He's also given me some exercises to do and if it's still bothering me to come back in a week and he'll do some more acupuncture. I was also told to reduce the weights I'm using in the pump class for a while ;)

Sir also had acupuncture for both His sore shoulders, and He is also trying it to give up smoking. He's had the one session so far and He is managing to cut down from what I can see (not as many trips to the laundry to light up for a couple of puffs!)

It sure does!! Good news on the acypuncture. I had acupuncture for a few things many moons ago, and even wonder if it had anything to do with my having children. I had been through investigative surgery and been told I had about 1 in a million chance of ever having children. I went for acupuncture to deal with the problems involved, and the pain, and next thing despite being on the pill I was pregnant! My father used to also go for sessions...came home one day and wondered what his jacket caught on when he was taking it off and found they had forgotten to remove one of the needles.

We have new carpet as of yesterday :)
It only took two guys just over 2 hours to carpet 2 bedrooms and a living area. Luckily they were big strong men because there were some big bits of furniture to lug around
Now we have to unpack everything!

The technicians brought the dialysis machine back this morning. Sir is doing 10 hours today because He has a bit more fluid to take off. He didn't get on until just before 12.30pm so it will be 10.30pm before he's finished - another 45 minutes to get Him off and clean and disinfect the machine might see me in bed before midnight.....

Poor BANDIT:heart: had a rough night as I developed the shivers & couldn't get warm we originally thought it was a reaction to my flu shot but in the early hours I found out if was food poisoning puking & crapping then I seemed to pick up drinking a can of soda to get the burps happening & the whole time poor BANDIT:heart: was very worried about me not getting much sleep at all, I hate things like this happening that scare her. :(

All good this morning, about to get on dialysis & hope BANDIT:heart: can get some nanna napping done.

Oh Bless Bandit's heart..Sending her hugs!! And bless your heart..hope you are feeling better sweetie!!

Hi KayKat - He is feeling better but only light meals today. I will make myself a coffee in a few minutes and put my head down on the couch for a little while. It would be after 1am before i got even a wink of sleep last night and even then I had my "Sir radar" on....although He did manage to sneak back into the bed at 3am without waking me!

My daughter txted me the other day to say she's back to being unwell (rash, flu like symptoms) so has had blood tests and has had to go stay with her boyfriend so he can look after her. I'm changing my mind about him a bit now because not every guy would put up with having a girlfriend who's been sick for three months. She finishes up work on April 13 but i don't think she'll see it out somehow, she's deathly tired.

I've suggested she get a doctor's certificate and see if she can get on a sickness benefit/pension for a few weeks/months just so she can get herself better. She doesn't want to be thought of as a bludger but I told her that's what these benefits are there for, to give you a hand when you need it (and she's paid taxes for over a year now so I reckon she's entitled). Her father  isn't being very supportive right now mainly because of the bf and having to quit work. He is rarely sick so has no idea how hard it is to have to force yourself to get out of bed and struggle through the day.

On a brighter note she might come over for a couple of weeks' visit in the winter when she's feeling better (June/July). That will be about a year since I saw her last. Can't wait to give her a BIG hug!

Looks like it's time to form another arterial buttonhole for the needle to go in....means using sharps 8-10 times. I hate using sharp cannulas - I'm always afraid I'm going to "bomb" (make a hole in) the vein. I've been having trouble getting the cannula in for the past 5-6 times, and today it just would not go in so out had to come the sharp.

It all went ok and Sir is on the machine, and my hands have now stopped shaking..... ;)
