Bandit's Blurt and Vent Thread

My daughter had her baby boy yesterday evening NZ time (9th December) at long last, 15 days late :) I thought she was going to be hanging on til Christmas at that rate! :D

He also managed to be born on Sir's and my wedding anniversary.

We are both well, had to make yet another buttonhole (for the arterial cannula this time), only took 6 sharps. I'm going back to NZ next month to see the new baby and catch up with family for a week, so Sir will be dialysing at the hospital but only for 3 times.

Big congratulations on your new baby :)

I was born December 9th as well and I believe you are into some hard rides if stars dont lie :D

Haha his mum is in NZ and I'm in Australia so she'll have to manage it not me :D Unfortunately she doesn't have internet or a computer so my son will have to be the one sending me pics.

Thank you for letting us know. Great it will be an easy birthday to remember. Have a safe and grand time when you head to NZ.

A HOME DIALYSIS PRAYER

Dear Lord,
Please let the cannulas go in easily and painlessly. Please make sure they aren't touching the fistula wall so they flush easily. Please do not let them clot at any time, and let the machine pressures be good.

Please don't let the machine alarm - but if it does, let it be something that's easily fixed. Please let my patient have an easy time with no cramping or crashing blood pressure. Please let Him sleep for most of it, it's easier that way. Let Him feel good afterwards too, not tired and washed out.

It's not too much to ask - is it?

Amen.

Poor Christchurch NZ has been hit with 3 earthquakes today, BANDIT's:heart: family are all OK with regular reports comming in from her brother on how he,wife & kids plus mum are doing down there while son, daughter & grandson are on a road trip back to the farm up on the North Island.

I spoke to Mum and my brother this morning, they are all ok although prepared with buckets of water and fully charged mobile phones. They are luckier than most, they live in a suburb that hasn't been badly hit.

I do worry about my mum though, she is prone to panic attacks and has had her moments during the past year. Luckily she has family next door and good neighbours too who check on her.

My son put up a new pic of my grandson when they were having a break from their road trip in a supermarket carpark (I guess daughter needed to pick up a few more things for him - small baby = lots of luggage!). He looks like he's going to take after my side of the family and be a tall dude :D His uncle is 6' 4"

LOL - I'm getting clucky just looking at the pics my son has put up  Have to fit in lots of cuddles in the week I am there! I can't see her wanting to cross the ditch with a small baby anytime soon though - the packing up for the road trip back to the farm for Christmas was bad enough she said

Awesome news!

Congrats!

Grrr who would you as a new mum listen to? A young midwife who hasn't had children and who appears to be just going by what the book says, or a lactation consultant whose advice seems to be working when it comes to breastfeeding your new baby? My daughter is thoroughly confused so I told her just go with what's working and to hell with the new agey hippie crap her midwife is spouting.

Bubs has put on 160g in 10 days which is pretty good considering he had a bad tongue tie and has had to learn to feed properly. I read where an average weight gain for a newborn should be around 112-200 grams a week during the first month, so I think he's doing fine. Midwife is saying all sorts of scary things like he might end up in hospital if things don't improve! *throws hands up in horror*

Her cousin posted to me on Facebook that she thinks they are doing ok too (she has a 1 yr old). Bubs is only waking a couple of times in the night but more often during the day. I said not to let him go more than 4 hours between feeds during the day even if she has to wake him (but leave him longer at night though!).

I'd go with whatever worked! LOL

*hugs*

:rose:

Had a text message this morning saying she's decided to get rid of the midwife and go with the Plunket baby nurses instead (and I'm assuming the lactation consultant as well). :)

:rolleyes:Well the very nervous, worried BANDIT:heart: is in flight about half way to New Zealand on her way to visit with her first grandchild who will be spoilt rotten.

When BANDIT's:heart: daughter was first pregnant BANDIT:heart: was kind of freaked by it but now she has a little baby boy she is all gooey about, she even carries a brag album with her now & even took it to the Boxi9ng class at the Gym last night.

Wish I'd seen this earlier. I would advise that your daughter go with an evidence-based practioner. Doesn't she have a pediatrician?

Typically the "new age" "hippies" are loathe to advise supplementation, by the way. It may or may not be needed, but frankly if someone is concerned about the baby's growth, I would take it seriously. The early days are a fragile time in a baby's life. On the other hand, midwives aren't pediatricians or baby nurses. Let us know how things have progressed. Best wishes.

Oh cool, thanks. Putting on normal weight sounds good. :) Hope she enjoys her visit.
