Chyoo 3???

This is what I get as a response when I try to log in:

"Column count doesn't match value count at row 1"

Damn, I always knew my column count was off, and now it has come back to haunt me...

:D

I love the site and what you are trying to do. Please let us updated as things progress.

thanks.

i think its this little elf dude that goes into the columns and counts how many you have....but the thing is off on disability. :p

I am a bit late replying to this thread, but here goes. I visited the Chyoo3 site and like others I found I could not login. The site looks almost the same, I like the logo you've created. It is simple and nice.

I think you have a lot of work ahead of you. The coding alone will take a lot of time. I wish I knew a thing or two, I'd love to help... but I don't. I know a little HTML, but it's just child's play compared to what you'd need.

Everybody has already made a lot of great suggestions and I haven't much to add to it. I am not a big fan of taking existing stories and changing their owner. If something happened and I was unable to visit the site for a while, then I get online and find my stories have been stolen from me without my consent... that would be bad. Perhaps instead of changing owners you create an auto-approve function for dorment stories. Maybe something like hotmail has. If you don't visit the site you account becomes inactive, but when you do log in again it is reactivated. Just a thought.

Good luck.

Well...
"Column count doesn't match value count at row 1" probably means that whatever password list the login script checks, it out of wack. And yes, that is a technical term. :p

Since we are all getting the error, We can assume that it is a site issue, and not just us.

And let's remember that ofhabit2 said "I haven't said anything about it because it's not ready for general usage quite yet." and "Obviously, it is still very much in beta" He didn't tell the world about this site (I guess I did...Oops.). He probably wasn't quite ready for the pounding that "interactive-erotica-deprived" people like us would do to his poor little beta site.

Lets give him/her our support, and patience.

I hope this means that all you freaks out there have a ton of content to put in when the site come up 100%!!! (and I include my self as a freak too... So I don't want to hear anyone calling me a name caller... ;)

BTW: When do I lose the "VIRGIN" from my profile? Damn embarrassing business...

I think it's 25 posts. (If not, it's probably 50). Then you're "Experienced".

Get enough posts and you can define yourself, like Imhotep.

Hey, everybody.

I wish I could say with some certainty when I will get what done, but I'm just not sure. I'm trying to squeeze time in, but I'm busy right now at work, blah blah blah. I got a fair amount done Friday evening -- stories can be added and edited, and threads can be added and edited, but there is LOTS to be done still.

The most important thing, I think, is setting up security and moderation (story and thread approval). I'll work on that first.

The second most important thing is importing stories properly :) . I saw those mangled up characters in some of the imported stories, and I'm not sure why that happened. That's the kind of thing that makes this a beta :) . There are a couple of other possible problems that I can think of with the current importing mechanism, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they don't become a problem.

Also, I fixed the column count login thing, I think.

Report any bugs here, I'll try and fix them as they come up. Post feature requests here, too. For example, I like the immersive story idea.

Login is working now, though it seemed like I had to go to the separate login page to successfully log in, rather than using the login/password boxes on the main page.

Story import seemed to be fast and smooth, though until story maps come back (will they?), it's hard to check completeness.

The junky characters (I saw some in Get Me To The Church On Time for the accented e in fiancé) look like what you get when you read Unicode quotes (generated by Microsoft Word as Smart Quotes, for example) as if they were ASCII or ISO-8859-x characters. Unicode can be 1-6 bytes per character (if I recall correctly) in UTF-8 encoding, and if your HTTP client (in Perl?) isn't expecting UTF-8 text, it will turn a single multi-byte character (like curly quotes or curly apostrophe or some accented letters) into a little blurt of nonsense with Euro signs and ligatures and junk.

We had a similar problem from Chyoo1 to Chyoo2 with all the curly quotes having been saved behind the scenes as HTML entities like &8201; and suddenly in Chyoo2 they showed up as the entity rather than the character (due to double-encoding text, presumably).

OFHabit, thanks for working on a place for Chyoo to go next.

Gone in Chyoo2, but not forgotten.

can't edit others' threads contributed to my story

It's a little annoying that I can't edit others' contributions to my story after importing, so I can't fix:

fiancé -> fiancé

for example.

It took me a few goes before I understood how Chyoo stories worked. I think I clicked on the New Stories. Of course there were only 1 or 2 pages and no options so I thought I did something wrong and left the site. Was anyone else confused?

I think an example story on the front page with a step-by-step guide would be good. (Can I be cheeky and suggest using one of mine!). An FAQ and guidelines would also be useful also.

On the front page of a story, is it possible to list the last 5 threads added to the story? Could you also put what you are supposed to put in the immersive space, i.e Male or Female, or First Name=Male Last Name=Female.

Is it possible to change what it says above the immersive box for each story, i.e instead of First/Last Name you could replace it with Best Friend or Wife etc.

Is it possible to link stories. I know Dacia and Tim use references to other stories.

I hope these are not too many ideas in one go.

Cheers.

So, how did you grab the passwords from CHYOO2?

Story copy:
It seems to me that the "new" chyoo site (which I will from now on refer to as chyoo3) should copy over at least some of the stories from the "old" chyoo site (chyoo2). The question is, how many/how much of the stories? The options, as I see them, are:
- Copy over all the stories : this might not be great, because there is a lot of deadwood mixed in with the good stuff.
- Copy over none of the stories : I don't like this, because I think there's a lot of good stuff mixed in there, and I would rather not let it fade away.
- Copy over all of your stories: when you log in, the system could either automatically copy over all your stories, or could allow you to choose to do so at some time. In this case, there is also the question of which stories to copy over: only the stories you created or all the stories you have contributed to. I know that I, personally, have written many threads in stories I have not created, that I would not like to see left behind.

Only authors should transfer their stories to CHYOO3. Otherwise copyrights are being violated. Now, this brings up the dicey copyright problem of the other contributors to a story. But, I think an author should be able to at least get their own stories.

Moderation:
I think we need a good set of moderators. If we want to continue to make stories go through an approval process, we need moderators. (The alternative, which I'm not opposed to, is to let anyone post anything, and have people report stories and pages that are questionable ... though this would require moderators as well.) The other thing that moderators could do is clean up old, broken and/or anemic stories. Regardless, my question to you all: who are two or three or more chyoo users that you think would do well as moderators? Let the nominations begin, and then the nominated users can decide if they want to step up to the task :) .

Definately need moderation. Just have a collection of moderators who all can approve stories. Perhaps an alternate method of moderation could be if 10 users give the story a 4 rating, it gets approved. Clear guidelines for story moderation will be needed.

The rating system:
As much as I like getting my threads rated highly, I'm not thrilled about the current rating system.

I don't care what system for ratings is used, but I want to have a rating system. Users should only be able to rate a thread once. Maybe all ratings for a single thread get wiped when it gets edited (or it could be the author's option to clear the ratings). I like the idea of requiring comments for ratings.

As for stale stories, I don't think stories should ever be reassigned to another user. Make it so that sometime after a story has not had an editor around, the moderators appoint a co-editor.

P.S. I really like the trusted and co-editor roles for stories. I think similar earnable roles could be developed for editors as well. A trusted editor gets his stories automatically approved, and after enough service or whatever, a moderator could make an editor into a co-moderator.

He didn't have to. Chyoo3 just pretends to be you, using the username and password you present, logs into Chyoo2, and if it's successful, perhaps saves the username and password for later.

Welcome to the Web Services World, where one site can be the authentication source for another without even knowing it. :)

Right Ofhabit?

Ahh I was wondering how he got our passwords off the Chyoo2 site. That seems to answer a few questions.

Dacia

A couple things:

(1) Editors should be able to edit all threads in their stories, not just those they wrote.

(2) I'd really like more {FIRST_NAME} type options. And I'm excited for when these get implemented.

(3) Story maps are important. I use them all the time.

Are the statistics grabbed from Chyoo2?
