Chyoo 3???

BTW, once you are up and running for real, you should periodically backup your MySQL database to avoid problems with lost data. Maybe daily?

A couple things:

(1) Editors should be able to edit all threads in their stories, not just those they wrote.

(2) I'd really like more {FIRST_NAME} type options. And I'm excited for when these get implemented.

(3) Story maps are important. I use them all the time.

Are the statistics grabbed from Chyoo2?

Agree with each point. Granted there's plenty of work to do, the site looks pretty good for an early beta.

For {FIRST_NAME} type options, the story creator should be able to assign the default values, rather than always taking Pat Smith or John/Jane Doe.

Torg, tell us more about what you're thinking about for {FIRST_NAME} type fill-in values.

Story maps might be able to be snarfed from Chyoo just like importing threads. :) But it's probably as easy to generate them.

Importing seems to be fast but incomplete. Can I ask to re-import my stories to pick up new threads and/or old ones that didn't make it?

Thanks again, Ofhabit!

I think the immersive stories (firstname/lastname) aren't that important. They are fun, and probably not that hard to impliment, but there really are more important things.

Hey, everybody, it's me.

I had a few minutes tonight, so I threw together story maps. There's a link to the story map from the story front page / cover sheet, and from each of the story pages. Consider them a rough draft (like everything else on the site). I did it the same way chyoo2 did it, so we'll still have problems with really deep threads.

On a related note, if anyone has any comments / suggestions on how any page on Chyoo3 should be designed/set up, email me. I'm open to suggestions ... I'm a better programmer than designer, most certainly. There's a "Contact" email link on the chyoo3 front page.

You can also now edit any thread in stories that you created.

Still no moderation ... that's next up in my project queue. That, and correctly handling Unicode characters on import. Unless, of course, y'all have other suggestions / think something else is more important ...

Thanks for playing with this site, everybody ... this beta testing is invaluable for developing it. Just as another reminder, though, please please please do not actively develop stories exclusively here ... it's nowhere near stable yet. Continue to play, but do your work over at chyoo2.

also, before I forget:

Chyoo3 just pretends to be you, using the username and password you present, logs into Chyoo2, and if it's successful, perhaps saves the username and password for later.

This is exactly how I do it. It's a little slimey, but it's the only reliable way to ensure that people are only importing their own stories. That reminds me ... once you've logged in to chyoo3 once, it saves your information in its own system, so that it doesn't have to keep on asking chyoo2. This means that you will continue to use the same password that you used when you first logged in to chyoo3. So, if you log in to chyoo3, then go and change your password for chyoo2 (can you even do that?), that you will keep using the first mentioned password for chyoo3. This particular "feature" may change in the future, but probably not.

g'night, everybody ...

Maps -- nice!

Edit others' threads in your own story -- good, I just fixed a bunch of broken Unicode apostrophes and accented e's. :)

I bet the most common Unicode characters -- curvy quotes, accented e, em-dash -- would be easy to catch via a substitution pass if you don't want to do "real" Unicode handling.

Chyoo2 is timing out a lot tonight. (So who's more stable?) Sigh.

Thanks again for stepping into the void!

It would be nice if the page design continues to allow for the user to change font size without breaking the layout.

It might be interesting to add support for users to attach their own custom CSS stylesheets. Adding "class" attributes to the HTML markup could be useful in giving traction.

No doubt the dedicated followers of fashion will demand a RSS feed and TrackBack support... ;)

I too found that Chyoo was extremely slow and laggy tonight. It was timing out completely whenever I tired to vote on anything. I just thought it was because I was downloading massive amounts of porn. Oops did I just say that? Kidding. it wasnt porn for a change but the Red vs Blue movies from Rooster Teeth. Anybody else watch help? Hilarious!!!

RSS feed? TrackBack support? Zingiber say what?
I found it very hard to quit once I get started on TrackBack Support. The TrackBack Support Support Group really helps in over coming these issues or else theres TrackBack Support Anomous in your capital city.

I'm currently stillunable to log in on Chyoo 3. Any suggestions?

I'm really not sure ... you're trying to log in with the same username and password as you would to log in to chyoo2?

Another thing is that you could have the moderators different for each category...so you have people reading wat they like, so their opinion is only of the story and not the fetish..if that makes any sense...

The only thing that's missing from the story maps is bolding the thread in the map that you clicked on the Map link from. I use this feature of Chyoo2 all the time. Oh, and the Story Title should link back to the Summary page of the story.

On a related note, if anyone has any comments / suggestions on how any page on Chyoo3 should be designed/set up, email me. I'm open to suggestions ... I'm a better programmer than designer, most certainly. There's a "Contact" email link on the chyoo3 front page.

I like the Synopsis on the Story Summary page to be up under the Subtitle.

Yeah, thanks, Dude.

Just know that when people transfer their stories, some of them haven't been approved. In most cases this is a feature, but if any stories don't follow content guidelines (e.g. underaged sex), they will be automatically approved. It might be worthwhile once the system is live to wipe the story archives and re-import stories, retaining their approved/not approved status. Then go through a quick moderation round.

Other important features to implement (in order of priority for me):

(1) Getting the browse and search functions working.

(2) The thread list for the author profile page, similar to the story list.

(3) A More button for the Top 5 lists. I found these to be invaluable for finding good stories to read on Chyoo2.

(4) I really like the lists of stories and threads that an author has contributed to that are on the header of the author's home page, with all the roles, statistics, maps, summaries, etc.

(5) Story categories, and perhaps a way to suggest new categories.

I really like the Last Activity field on the Author profile. Something Chyoo2 needed. Instead I had to look at their thread list and page through it to find the last thing modified.

I think that story and thread view statistics should be zeroed when you go live. So then you're starting from a clean slate. Same with Ratings.

More suggestions to come.

OK, we've currently got (from Chyoo2):

BDSM
Cheating Wives
Erotic Couplings
Exhibitionist/Voyeur
Fan Fiction
Fetish
Gay Male
Humor & Satire
Incest
Inter-Racial
Lesbian
Mature
Mind Control
Non-English
Non-Erotic
Romance
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Swingers

From Literotica, we have these additional categories:

Anal
Celebrities
Chain Stories
Erotic Horror
First Time
Group Sex
How-To
Illustrated
Letters & Transcripts
Loving Wives
Nonconsentual/Reluctance
Non-Human
Novels and Novellas
Reviews and Essays
Text With Audio
Toys and Masturbation
Transexuals and Crossdressers

Of these, several are not appropriate for Chyoo:
Chain Stories, How-To, Letters, Novels, Reviews, Text with audio.

Personally, I'd like to do the following:

(1) Change Cheating Wives to Cheating Spouses.
(2) Add Horror and Non-Human to Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Or just Horror, since Non-Human is really included in Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror.
(3) Add Celebrities, First Time, Group Sex, Nonconsent/Reluctant, Sex Toys, and Transsexuals and Crossdressers categories.

One thing that would be really neat, somewhere down the line, would be the ability to add an image to a thread. Let Editors designate the story as Illustrated to turn on the feature.

BTW, I love this project. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

This whole thing wouldn't have been necessary if we'd gotten a tenth of the responsiveness out of Chyoo2 as you've provided.

P.S. You might want to think about a new name for the site, just in case someone at Literotica gets tinky about appropriating the name. Chyoo is their site, after all. Or, maybe, they will be so thrilled that someone is willing to take Chyoo over, that they will link to it. ....... hahahahahahaha

CHYOSA (Choose-Your-Own-Sex-Adventure) is a possibility.

This is a great idea. It could be a series of checkboxes at Create Moderator time.

I also have trouble logging in. Every time I type in my username and password, it just goes straight to the login page again and again and again and again and again and again...(believe me, i've just sat here typing my details repeatedly just to see what kind of reaction i could get!).

Also, I've had a great idea on the moderation front. Several moderators, great, but I think it should be a stipulation that a moderator should pass on the role if they have to leave, perhaps even name a "deputy moderator" in their personal details so that if activity suddenly stops on their account for too long (say 2 months), then they lose their priviliges to the deputy.

However, i don't realy know jack about programming so whether that is plausible is a different matter...

The previous is the same problem I'm having. Happy about how Chyoo 3 seems to be progressing however.

Do you have any non-alphanumeric characters in your password? That might break it.

I'd really like to get some sort of dynamic moderation system going - once the system is up for a bit, users with a certain number of posts thrown into a pool and are randomly picked to moderate submitted stories. I think this is a relatively honest community, and that would work fine ... plus, with a "Report this thread" system in place, there could always be a few "uber" moderators in place, or something even more sophisticated, to keep illegal material intact. This is much harder to code than just picking a few moderators to begin with, of course, which is why I'm not even trying to do it yet :) .

Lists like this are great! It lets me know what y'all are interested in.

The browse/search mechanism will probably be the same thing. For example, "searching" for stories about Swingers (or whatever) is essentially the same as "browsing" the Swinger stories. Similarly, a "More" button for each of the Top 5 lists would take you to an appropriate search page (e.g., "Freshest" would be to search all the stories, ordering them by most recently updated). This browse search mechanism is very high on current priority list (second in line, after moderation).

I'm not sure if the "view MY stories/threads" will be part of the search function or not. I'm thinking not, since you don't always want to see the same information for your stories/threads as you're allowed to see for other people's stories/threads. I'll try and throw in a hack to just list all your threads ASAP, but an "elegant" solution might take a little longer.

I've been thinking about story categories, too. I'd like to do page level categories, I think. Lots of stories run the gamut of genres/categories, and I think the story creator should be able to specify a story's "main" genre upon creation, but that a list of all the "contained" genres should also be accesible, perhaps on the story's cover sheet. Let me know if this idea is completely out of whack. As far as specifying genres, by all means, speak up now if you want something added -- I'm not sure allowing user-entered-on-the-fly genres is a good idea.

Let's see ... other stuff ...

I bet the most common Unicode characters -- curvy quotes, accented e, em-dash -- would be easy to catch via a substitution pass if you don't want to do "real" Unicode handling.

I will try and get this fixed before any sort of big "release." There are also some other problems, currently, with the importing system, that I don't want to think about right now :) .

by the way thanks for the sight. Hope you dont think it complaints when I am asking these questions

Got some question

Go to your profile page (click the 'lilguy' link in the header) and click on 'Stories' link. They should pop up.

When you hit the 'import' link, ofhabit2, something should indicate when the process is complete. Maybe the link should bring up another page that says "Importing stories from Chyoo2... Please wait." and then redirect when it's done to a page that says "Import complete".

When I click on the caterogories ounce again it take me to the main screen

Categories aren't implemented yet.

When getting the story map for When The Cat's Away, I got the following errors:

Notice: Undefined index: 34387 in /home/.callisto/ofhabit/chyoo.net/index.php on line 263

Notice: Undefined index: 34387 in /home/.callisto/ofhabit/chyoo.net/index.php on line 263

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/.callisto/ofhabit/chyoo.net/index.php on line 266

The story map was displayed and looked correct.

Nope.

Can't log in either. Drats.
Looks good. Keep up the work. Please import the current stories.

People who haven't logged in to Chyoo3 before can't login now because Chyoo2 is down.

About getting all the content off chyoo2, if it was me I would do so, but keep the content for those who haven't created login IDs to Chyoo3 hidden, at least until Chyoo2 is actually dead.
