Yeah Bill, you didn't think that 1960s free speech movement meant anything other than swapping orthodoxies on campus, did you?

I did not even think of that.

Good point.

As bad as that place is, at least they're not covered with that layer of hypocritrical slime that covers all of leftism. A free and open exchange of ideas...ha!

Send them to the U of Illinois paper editor that just got fired for bruising Muslim sensibilities by publishing a Mohammed cartoon.

I might just do that. You obviously don't need any more.

It was a cynical reference to the days when the left would welcome ideas counter to the establishment. Now on most of our campuses they are the establishment, and freedom of thought, speech, and ideas is not allowed.

I couldn't agree more. The pigs are looking more like the farmer every day, no?

I saw the start of this when I first went to UMASS.

Dorm jobs went to people who were "Socially Aware"

Because jobs dealing with kids should go to people who are socially unaware?

Code for "gay, minority, or at least female".

Well, a couple dorm jobs should just about even the score, huh?

Seriously though, it's hard for me to take these complaints too seriously. When I went to Uni I went from being one of the more right wing folk at my high school to being one of the most left wing Uni students I knew. For the most part my Uni was full of students looking to earn as much cake as they possibly could.

I thought you were part Portuguese.

No, I just speak it. I'm a mutt of German, Scots-Irish and other stuff.

And I saw the orthodoxies descending at my alma mater, Washington U. in St. Louis, decades ago, too.

And, let's not forget, holding the proper political perspectives.

Thomas Sowell calls "diversity" ideological conformity hiding behind superficial differences. Oh, how true.

I did not know you went there. My best friend went to grad school there. He got his MBA there. My uncle was a Professor there as well.

When I say dorm Jobs I meant RA type things.

I know you did. But we had plenty of white guys as RA's in my time in the dorms. Something tells me that there was a period in which us white fellows went through a time in which we got turned down for things so as to make things slightly more representative of campus as a whole and now it's more or less even keel.
