Did your parents teach you about sex? Was it helpful?

My parents are very religious and very conservative so sex was only discussed in the sense that I was told to never think about it, and never do it. Of course, I feel like that ended up having the opposite effect on me since I became extremely sexually curious and active probably a lot younger than they would have wanted me to.

My parents didn’t teach me anything. My dad’s only advice was that women arn’t a bad hobby 🙄. My mother did say when she caught me jumping my pillow not to be embarrassed, as it was natural.

Evidently, no one talks to their kids about sex. My parents didn't talk to me and neither did I to my kids.
I also didn't have friends to teach me (life of a nerd ...), so it took a long time to figure things out. Actually, I'm still figuring stuff out (with the help of all the folks on Lit)

I did. I talked to my mum about birth control and she would talk to us (much to our horror and panic at the time) about masturbation and the importance of our pleasure. It took me another twenty years to really figure out what she meant, but I got it in the end 🤣🤣

Your mum is the exception! Good for her. I imagine it would be a very awkward conversation for all involved. It's difficult to convey the importance of love and respect AND the importance of fun/sexual gratification. Much easier to just say 'Thou shalt not'.

Yeah. She was.
She was a cop who worked in sex crimes and understood the importance of education. She approached our conversations with the understanding that we were going to have sex, so how could we do it safely and in a way that was enjoyable for us girls, too.

My parents were too distant for any such conversations, you're mother sounds like life was interesting.

I do not doubt that your topical conversations with your kiddos will be both hilarious and serious in equal measure.
