There's really good illustration software for free called paint.net.

Download it and fool with it. It's just like paint and photoshop all in one. Some great stuff.
Instructional videos can be found on youtube.

I'll check it out. Right now I use corel.

Still haven't tried it but going to take a look. What I tried to find out how to do was give text perspective to lay like it is flying at you (In Sunday's Marionette). Couldn't figure it out.
