GAMES - what do you play?

I dont play any games although I thought Final Fantasy looked like fun.
I am a WOW widow - both my husband and son are addicted so I do know that level 80 is good but thats it:)!

I love the Final Fantasy games (JRPGs...) but you really do have to just let go of anything you consider 'reason' and live the internal logic

By all means debate about aspects of a game if you wish but try not to get personal about it. We all like to enjoy and do different things ...try and be accepting of this.

*grins* You should start a support group I have heard there are many casualties to WoW but it is something I have not played. When the craze for wow started I was too invested in Ultima Online ...which I played for like 6 or 7 years (way to long)

I prefer board games like Apples to Apples and stuff like that. The only "video" game I play and haven't in a long time is Tetris.

Ah hah hah, the game hailed as the most addicting game ever. Alexei, we salute you for your genius.

Hmmmmm well I have invested a lot of time into WoW in the past. Not so much anymore, but I still fire it up now and then.

Been more into the recently acquired PS3 lately. Resident evil 5 is a game I enjoy muchly. What's not to love about rocket launchers, shot guns, zombies and chainsaws?

Been playing some Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It's great stress relief to shoot someone in the fact after a long day of looking at Python code >.<

Rented Dragon Age: Origins the other day and have been greatly enjoying it, I just wish it was multi-player single console instead of multi-player PS network.. I'm gonna have to side with others and say that most internet based multi-player games get ruined by the general public who play them, and the total lack of oversight over those games. I really get tired of being sworn at by 12 year olds at 4 am, just because I bested them.

By far my most memorable situation that I observed didn't even happen to me. A friend of mine was playing a female character, and kept killing a character of an opposing force in an MMO. So that person rolled a character on our faction and told my friend that he was going to hunt (Her) down, rape her and kill her.

Gotta love the internet eh?

PSO was like that in the early days. And in the final days of the official servers. Lots of people play multiple characters (With four character slots per account, and twelve types to create....you do the math). The Hunewearl is the most often propositioned, but all female characters tend to get such treatment.

Thanks, mother. But that wasn't what I was doing at all. I was correcting a statement that was objectively false.

I'm sure Peggle gives it a run for its money as far as addiction is concerned.

I personally prefer Columns or Bejewelled, but I have lost many an hour to the Russian-made masterwork.

I love games like these columns on the sega I think it use to be had me so addicted and their use is a battle version on my Nintendo DS but damn I get my butt kicked when I play that online there seem to be some super freaky tetris people out there.

A free Tetris Game

And you started it just like this one with a personal reference. Now I asked politely and was in no way rude to you or anyone else. So kindly pull your head in Ahren.

I don't even know what you're saying anymore. Besides I was done before you even made that other post.

Okay, here goes
Need for Speed, and before anyone has a comment to make, puts ear plugs in followed by helmet :D

I have to ask: which version?

I own a copy of the Need for Speed Underground 2 and sometimes I install it and give it a go.

And on a second line:

I forgot another series of classics I also play from time to time:
*The Fallout Series: 1, 2 and Tactics. I fail to appreciate the last addiction to the series.
*Commandos: 1 and 2. Again, when the game went 3D, it lost that... something... that made it so good.
*Silent Storm
*Frozen Bubble (this a clone of the arcade classic Puzzle Bobble, but only for Linux...)

The Sims......all expansions

The Sims 2 ....all expansions

The Sims 3

I have a bit of an addiction to them I just cant seem to help myself.....maybe I should post that in the confession thread..., I confess I have a sim addiction, it s a guilty pleasure.

World of Warcraft for me.

I love it. Each race has a complex social placement and in-depth history. There's so much room that even adhering as strictly to their lore as I like to do, I still am able to create characters who for me are complex and engaging.

I honestly have little desire to play games that are NOT mmo's. I thrive on the interaction. Watching a character I create move from an initial set of tensions to resolution- or balance, to new tensions, all the while growing in depth and complexity. That's really where it's at for me.

I will have to check, not sure which one I got, the best is after playing going for a drive and doing the same on the street

That doesn't sound too safe. Unless you drive on the German Autobahnen.

I prefer U2 as well. But they need to make a Need For Speed game that is pure freeroam. The addition of cops in Most Wanted was amusing for a while, but after so long....well, I've never been able to beat the game because of the time limit for the final chase scene. I end up on the wrong end of town when the timer reaches the point I'm supposed to jump the bridge.

Such a game would require an architecture extremely complex and most probably would face too much criticism from player universe. People are used to go-there/do-that type of games. A pure free roam environment would most probably get cut down with critics about the "lack of objectives of the game" or something else. But it is an attractive concept. At least for me.

But one other thing I would like to see re-implemented in this kind of game - where street car tuning is the emphasis (besides racing) - is the freedom to go in depth in the real car tuning, like swapping engines and individual components.

I once played a very old game (DOS time) where one could do such things. The concept was radical and way ahead of its time. because the low quality graphics and sound quality gave a very poor experience to the player, even for the time. The most addicting part of the game was actually the part where one could swap the innards of one car to fit it with another set. I was once crazy enough to fit a Pontiac GTO with a V10 engine, fitted with a turbo charger and injection system. The actual racing part bored me!
