GAMES - what do you play?

Such a game would require an architecture extremely complex and most probably would face too much criticism from player universe. People are used to go-there/do-that type of games. A pure free roam environment would most probably get cut down with critics about the "lack of objectives of the game" or something else. But it is an attractive concept. At least for me.

But one other thing I would like to see re-implemented in this kind of game - where street car tuning is the emphasis (besides racing) - is the freedom to go in depth in the real car tuning, like swapping engines and individual components.

I once played a very old game (DOS time) where one could do such things. The concept was radical and way ahead of its time. because the low quality graphics and sound quality gave a very poor experience to the player, even for the time. The most addicting part of the game was actually the part where one could swap the innards of one car to fit it with another set. I was once crazy enough to fit a Pontiac GTO with a V10 engine, fitted with a turbo charger and injection system. The actual racing part bored me!

Heh. I played a PS2 game sort of like that. You could pick your parts, and then customize the LOOK of your car by actually making your own parts. I think the game's name was Supercar Racing. The problem was that the game looked horrible and played worse.

And that is the great problem with this genre, I believe. One game can bring an exciting look and stunning graphics but will probably stink on actual gameplay. Others will have great play but terrible graphics. Others will have a great portfolio of cars but will be completely empty of any other worthy content.

I remember when I tried on the PS1 one of the Midnight Club Series. It had a _huge_ lot of cars and other vehicles, but the freedom of customization was... scarce, to say the least and the gameplay... don't let me start on it. Some cars were as easy to handle as an oil tanker. On dry land.

*nods* I've been meaning to try out Test Drive Unlimited for a while. I was always more of a fan of the Test Drive series than NFS or other racing games.

I tried a bit of Dwarf Fortress a while ago, but I had trouble getting my head around it. A shame too; I've read a few journals of community games (where a player manages a fortress for an in-game year before handing it on to the next player) and they were awesome. For anyone wondering, they were all from the SomethingAwful forum's Let's Play archive;

Boatmurdered (a fortress that's become somewhat legendary in the Dwarf Fortress community)
Headshoots (which came close to matching Boatmurdered in bat-shit Crazy Awesome and built one of the most impressive monuments I've ever heard of)
Syrupleaf (a sequal to Headshoots using a modified game and custom-made enemies that were like ultra-tough zombies, the fortress itself set up in the middle of a glacier)

All three of them were amazing reads, although the screenshots take a bit of getting used to (what with the game's graphics consisting entirely of ASCII characters), though some players used custom tilesets that made it a lot easier to see what everything was.

Yeah, I love watching Let's Plays, and the Dwarf Fortress ones are funny as shit, even if you don't understand much about the game. I sure as hell don't.

http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/ the link for lazy people.

Unfortunately 99% of LPs suck but when you find a good one they're good entertainment.

I was reading one of the later chapters of Syrupleaf and the way the fights in DF go and the descriptions the players added sounded like something out of a Monty Oum film (he made this and this as is now working for Rooster Teeth Productions on the latest season of Red vs Blue).

Fortress was under siege by human cavalry and one of the fortress' champions was out there. He charged at the leader of the human squad, yanked him right off his horse and threw him into the side of a cliff. Earlier sieges by frost giants on warhorses often had their mounts punched/hammered out from under them, flying tens of metres away while the rider just dropped to the ground. And then there was one crossbow-wielding dwarf who slid between the legs of one giant, grabbed its leg as he passed and ripped the damn thing off with his bare hands.

If I ever get around to loading Blood Bowl up again, I'm tempted to start a Dwarven team just to try and channel the badass-itude of Dwarf Fortress.

Ok, here goes.

I used to be a big Magic TG player. I've played Dungeons and Dragons, Legend of the Five Rings, Shadowrun, Deadlands, and more in that vein. I play board games from Risk to, Apple to Apples to, Arkham Horror, to Twilight Imperium and more.

I have dreams of writing my own Pen and Paper Rpg, but that is probably a ways off.

I loved old Sega Genesis games. My two favorites being Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and Gargoyles.

I hunt down computer games like the old Fallout games, Fable, Jade Empire, Arcanum, and Planar Torment. Though I do get a good kick out of Starcraft and wish my computer could run Starcraft 2.

PS1 and 2 I enjoy good off the path Rpgs like Saga Frontier, Lunar SSSC, and the first 2 Arc the Lad games. Final Fantasy just leaves a bad taste in my mouth though.

Never could get into games like WoW or City of Heroes though.

Lastly I hate that my parents threw out the old Commodore 64 all those years ago.

I don't have a problem, I just have a bad solution to other problems.

A few more I like to play are Heroes of Might and Magic , although I am yet to download the newer version on my new laptop its been awhile since I have played.

I confess I even stoop to facebook games damn farmville has me addicted and mob wars and I also take pleasure in those time management games.......but they are not things I can play all the time.

I am missing my old guild from Ultima Online and would love to start a new one perhaps for Shaiya but I am too new to the game to be of great use like I was in Ultima.

I'm mainly interested in which factions from Warhammer 40,000 will be playable in it. The trailer's confirmed Space Marines, Chaos (heretics and traitor Space Marines), Orks (green-skinned aliens) and Imperial Guard (normal human soldiers) but the devs have stated that all of the major 40k factions'll be represented.

I'm also wondering how that Warhound Titan'll work in gameplay (they've confirmed that you won't be able to drive the larger vehicles like tanks and such) and if any of the larger models of Titan'll be in as well. Mind you, I think a Reaver Titan (which is about half -again taller than the Warhound) might be pushing it.

And yes; there are bigger models of Titan.

Not even just the Superheavies? The Megatanks I could understand not piloting, but...

As far as I've heard, the biggest vehicle you'll be able to drive yourself is going to be stuff like Space Marine Bikes or Ork Deffkoptas.

Dunno how they'll handle Dreadnoughts, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're relegated to NPC status.

Games!!!

Dragon Age (Journeys, Origins, Awakening and the DLC's)

AoC Hyborian Adventures

Lame.....

I dunno, the tabletop game's more about the infantry than the vehicles*, maybe the MMO's just trying to reflect that.

The trailer did show an ork wartrukk, though, so transport vehicles like them (and Space Marine Rhinos) might be drivable as well. Main battle tanks, like Space Marine Predators or the Imperial Guard Leman Russ won't be usable though.

*Two of the three missions (basically game modes) can only be won by holding objectives, and only units taken as Troop choices (basically anything in the Troops section of the army's codex or their section of the Games Workshop online store) can hold those objectives. You can use any of your units to contest an objective, which is where you and your opponent have models within 3" of the objective and so neither of you has it, but you can't hold it if your unit there isn't a Troop choice or a transport vehicle with a Troop choice in it.

I found a game tonight that can only be described as SO CUTE you may want to puke...its any little girls fantasy I am sure, anyone who is a hello kitty fan will love it.

Hello Kitty Online - Video - Game

As for me today I brought Prince of Persia - the forgotten sands for Wii I am off to play now for awhile...take some aggression out on some bad dudes.

Yay, just got notice that Tale in the Desert V is up and running.....off to pick some flax.:)
Also EQ just told me that my old server is being merged, UO is inviting me back to play.

Hello Kitty is the bomb but I'm not sure if i could handle Kitty saying "WTF".

Played a fair few roleplaying games with groups over the table, different genres.

Tabletop wargames at a nearby club. Assembling some self converted Dark Elf chariots this afternoon for Warhammer fantasy battles. Trying hard not to superglue my fingers to the keyboard.

Played a lot of online games, but giving that a rest at the moment.

I played UO for like 5-6 years, I tried everquest once but never got hooked because I was also playing UO at the time.

Gosh I feel old. Despite being a mum of a teenager, I've not a clue what any of you talk about..including my son when he starts on about games.
