In the last week, examples of the things I am surprised go unchecked include: Glorification of the current middle-east conflict (including the glorification of killing children), and also curtailments to free speech by means of thread hi-jacking, blatent trolling and verbal (or should I say textual) abuse.

I believe in free-speech, although don't the rest of you think such things as I've mentioned diminish the value of free speech if that is what people do with it ?

If am I really wrong? If so, would you please explain to me what place such behaviours have here, and how it is right for them to remain posted here?

Just going back to one of the above examples, I reported the comments made about the middle-east conflict, including comments made about killing children. Yet, nothing was done. That is why I have a lack of confidence in what little moderation is used here, and why I find it hard to believe that so many people like it the way it is. I'm sure the person who posted was nothing more than a "troll", but surely isn't such behaviour demeaning the value of the forum if that is the sort of chatter that is allowed to be had?

What's restricted here is what's illegal. Not what's stupid or what you disagree with.

Free speech means you get to listen to every moron. But it also means if you're a moron, you get to speak.

Internet threats don't bother me so much. If they bother you, put the people on ignore.

You have all the editing tools you need on your side of things to block out what you don't want to hear and who you don't want to hear it from.

I've received threats on my life, threats on my kids' lives. I think they're pathetic and usually funny.

How afraid can you be of someone on the other side of the wire? If they're at my door, I'll take them seriously then.

If someone is rude/disrespectful/abusive towards me, I return the behaviour in kind - i.e. I don't let unacceptable behaviour go unchecked. If people want to behave in a way to get other people down, then why not stop it being worth their while for the amount of flack they will get in return if they don't "play nice" ?

Oddly enough they usually shut up, back down, or we become friends. All three, sometimes.
