I miss the fitness threads and the fitness Doms!

With our taxes this year we went ahead and spent the money needed to get me on the diet my doctor wants me on.

I've lost fifteen pounds already. :nana:

So I've been dieting again. My overshoot 5,000 kilocals a day diet. Trying to get some reserve energy for hiking.

Well its week 4, the first week was brutal getting mys stomach to expand. I don't know what's going on though cause in 4 weeks of that diet, I gained 0.70 lb.

I've been doing leg and full body workouts to prep for the heavy pack. Like leg presses, squats, deadlifts. Does that really burn that much energy?

Proof that it takes calories to lose weight -- I have been having some serious GI issues the past 10 days or so and haven't been able to eat much at all. I am eating maybe 800 calories a day. I have lost nothing the last 10 days.

I am just a half pound from goal weight anyway so it doesn't matter but I did think it was interesting.

Hopefully my metabolism will bounce back when I am able to start eating again.

Just musing...

Have lost a pound or two more. It's because I finally finished the batch of healthy cookies that I made.

What I find frustrating is that the line between overeating a little and feeling a bit deprived is a thin one. Maybe it will all shake out in the wash eventually? I'm in the right range of course already, but it just seems as though a little too much is just too much. And then the alternative seems to be feeling just a hair deprived. Or maybe that is the new normal. I suppose I just need to let it be and not sweat every single day. That's what I did with the episode du cookies. It just seems like life without the occasional treat isn't worth living, and yet sugar is such a trigger.

Well, exercise is still going very well. I work out all of the time and I love it. I never dread a workout, ever! The key for me has been to mix it up. A few days a week I really push it hard, and then I do yoga some days (hard in a different way, but also restorative) and run and bootcamp workouts.

p.s. to Keroin. I admit I am obsessed with getting my muscles to pop. I must be the most vain person ever! I was thinking maybe I should add in an extra nightly 25 pushups, 50 situps or something. Morning and evening? Eek, I am addicted. My husband thinks I look hot.

I'm down to 160, which isn't a WHOLE bunch. it's taken months to lose those 10 lbs (albeit, I've only been really working hard at it the past couple). I need to incorporate strength into my workouts, buuuuuttt.... lazy. Not so much too lazy to do it, but just too lazy to make myself do it. Know what I mean?

No, you're not the most vain person ever. I understand that desire very well. And I say enjoy it while you have it. ;)

Hang in there. I'm trying to take a long view of things. Sometimes you need to slack for a while before you get serious again. I'm all about strength training though. Find something that you love -- maybe a class of some sort.

I suppose a few of the Kardashians might have me beat. ;) And hey, I do like being this strong too.

Hey there just a little heads up. 800 calories a day is consider too low for women. Minimum 1200. Your metabolism will shut down (starvation mode) if you dip below that for too long. Your body WILL use both fat and muscle as fuel to live on. When you return to eating what your body requires you will gain it back and then probably some extra.

This is not to scare you, but to help you do the research and make informed decisions for your health and well-being. Seriously please look into this for your long term well being. If you are setting yourself up for the weight-loss weight-gain cycle.

Best wishes.

If you had been paying attention, they were eating that little because they had GI Illness. Probably be best to read an entire post before you go getting on a pedestal to lecture someone.

intothewoods, I'm taking a Krav Maga class that I LOVE, but it's only once a week and I've had a sprained ankle so I haven't been going. Not going has definitely sapped some of my desire to work out. Luckily, my ankle is almost better and so I should be able to at least GO and participate at a lower level this week. That'll be a good workout on its own, and it always motivates me to become stronger so I can better drive my partners across the mat :p

I know.

Thanks for the support! I am starting to feel a little better. I finally saw my gastroenterologist yesterday and got a list of foods to eat and foods to avoid while I wait for more tests.

I am at my personal goal weight now. I am a size 12 and no longer do I have to shop in the women's section. I could stand to lose a little more but I am officially at a healthy BMI so I'm happy. When my GI issues settle down I'll start back up with strength training. For now I'll just keep up with the cardio.

First hit of the tennis season. On the crappy public court, with crappy balls, but a hit nonetheless! :D

So, what's everyone got planned for sporting/fitness activities this spring/summer? (Or, for our antipodean friends...winter?) Hiking? Biking? Swimming? Running?

Time to get outside and play!!

Probably won't be getting to do much, actually. In a few weeks we start our clinical rotations and what exercise I can accomplish will depend entirely on how that goes...and I don't really know!!

I'll probably mostly walk and jog as I can. That likely will mean walking around the clinic during my breaks for exercise.

I've fallen off the wagon as well :( I'm still eating healthy, but I've lost some portion control and I'm not exercising. My schedule is getting hectic, yes, but since I'd rather be here with the boy... I did pick up an indoor bicycle stand (With resistance), so I'll probably set that up here in my bedroom so I can spend time with my boy and exercise at the same time :)

OH, and Keroin! I got one of those balance boards. I feel like I don't necessarily get a lot of "exercise", but I do enjoy using it!! Once I'm stronger in general, I'll probably be able to incorporate it into actual exercises (instead of mostly just balancing on it) and get more out of it! Thank you for the suggestion!

Pictures darling. ;)

Every time I take one of those faceless body pics I think it's too risky to post it online. You'll just have to use your imagination.

Spring - running, running, running! Hope it stays pleasant for a while. :) Am eager to hit the pool too for fun in the sun.

Weight loss -- it keeps going. I lost a couple more pounds. I am skinnier now than I've been in a decade. Crazy shit huh? Course I'm not skinny. Just "normal" - or four pounds away from normal BMI.

Still want muscles to pop. It's my main motivation for losing weight at this point!

At this point I'm just trying to maintain my healthy diet and stay in a good caloric range based on how I feel. Avoid the full feeling, also avoid the ohmygodIamsohungryIamgoingtodie feeling too. I also totally allow myself a dessert cheat once in a while if I'm at a party or it's a holiday. I love warm weather for eating healthy though -- it's so much easier!

Hey, we do what we can. Don't get too frustrated. Sometimes all I have time for is a short walk every day. It's better than nothing!

Indoor bike stand is an awesome thing. I loved mine. I miss my bike. :(

Terrific news! No it won't feel like "exercise" but it is. You just need to re-define your definition of the word. ;) Not all exercise has to leave you feeling tired and sweaty. I spent months and months just balancing on balls and discs and boards before I ever incorporated them into my regular "exercises". Have fun and good luck!

Also, congrats on the engagement! Very exciting news. :rose:

Ditto over here. I've found a little trail running group so I hope to hook up with them soon. Generally, I'm a solo runner but it's nice to have a group when you run in bear and cougar country.

Sounds like you're kicking ass, ITW! I too would love to see a pic, but thankfully I have a good imagination. :)

Six weeks of being worked over by a chiropractor and a massage therapist twice weekly have left me with the ambition to return to real exercise but no longish periods of being relatively pain-free. Siting results in leg pain once I stand back up, and walking leads to more back pain. And yet, this is actually what progress looks like chez Yank these days. Apparently fixing a curved spinal cord is a lot of work.

So I life wine glasses, run my mouth, and play practical jokes to stay fit.

This is what Alton Brown followed to lose weight:

Daily
- Fruits
- Whole Grains
- Leafy Greens
- Nuts
- Carrots
- Green Tea

3 times a week
- Oily Fish
- Yogurt
- Broccoli
- Sweet Potato
- Avocado

Once a week
- Red meat
- Pasta
- Dessert
- Alcohol

NEVER!
- Fast Food
- Soda
- Processed meals/frozen dinners
- Canned soup
- “Diet” anything

PLUS: Eat breakfast every day, no exceptions.

I've found it's a lot easier for me control my intake if my quick-easy-toobusytocook option is a low calorie Healthy Choice frozen dinner or a fleshed out canned soup. Otherwise, I'm liable to pick less healthy quick options to fill my stomach up.

I tried to take a picture of my bicep last night and felt ridiculous.

Group running is tough for me, but I take a martial arts class with some folks and I love the camraderie.

Not bad, but I am not giving up my daily glass of wine!

Well, a daily glass of wine is pretty healthy, you know. It helps prevent all sorts of things like breast cancer, heart disease, obesity, etc...etc...!! SCIENCE SAYS SO SO ITS TRUE!!!

Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Of course, more than one for women is linked with some bad stuff. Annoying!

OMG - guess what happened, people? I was having a very intense small fitness class today and my teacher was showing me some moves and kind of slamming up against me. That actually happens often, so no biggie, but for some reason I had this weird out of body experience and...well, it's not like I got turned on by him exactly, but it was more like I forgot where I was and my body was reminded of, um, other times when a male body slams up against me and responded accordingly.:eek: Just for a second -- it wasn't like I moaned or did something weird. It was kind of hot but super freaky and trippy. I feel like I was caught doing something really naughty right now. I have to tell my husband. I wonder what he'll say. Probably that I'm a freak. The usual. :D

I actually kinda relate. I'm in a martial art class and I was singled out to demonstrate our new move. I was aggressively grabbed up REALLY CLOSE and a (plastic) gun pressed to my throat. Definitely a flash of arousal, although it went away rather quickly. Well until I started running the drill with a friend 9_9 then it kind of ebbed to and fro for a bit before dissipating.
