Poly Families with kids?

First of all, I wasn't sure if that was an announcement from Fi? If so, congratulations! .

Thanks. I hadnt intended to make an "announcement". Our being pregnant came as a very happy surprise. But it wasnt something we were announcing here because we keep this particular part separate. But this particular thread is so close to what we're going through right now that I couldnt keep it in.

I was confused because I remember you mentioning some prior health issues, so I just didn't want assume. Really, congratulations, you and Malin will make wonderful parents.

Congratulations! Whether you're mono/poly/gay/straight/Dom/Sub, pink/green/yellow with purple spots, having a baby is THE most life-changing experience you'll have!

All the best, I hope it goes well.:D

...My comment about romanticization had to do with the tone of one comment, which struck me in the moment as being flip where a child is concerned.... .
It really was not intended to sound flip/flippant ... truly. :(

I have no issue with the Poly part, but I do think it's a good idea to know the childs paternity, perhaps not immediately as I'm guessing it would be a stressful time for the people involved. It sounds like they are all really excited about the baby and I have no doubt that they'll try to be the best parents that they can be - just like everyone else does.
As an adoptee, I can't help but to see it from the child's point of view. If I had three Dad's all living with me and my Mother, I'd want to know which one was my biological Dad. Then again, while I know where my biological father lives, I have no intention of ever meeting him.

Oh and Congratulations, EmpressFi.
:rose:

Ever see American Beauty? Great movie, and that movie shows wonderfully how fucked up the family unit can be even in the traditional sense. Them motherfuckers were supposedly normal, at least to the outside world they were....So i figure all bets are off, do whatever the fuck makes you happy....

CONGRATS!!

I've been lurking around this thread but just had to come out and tell you how GREAT that is and how happy I am for you! Best best best best to you and all of yours!

Well, now you tell me! Kidding. Sorry I read you wrong.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I always knew the suburbs were the root cause of all insanity in this country! ;) Those "motherfuckers" were only normal because everyone in the movie was as fucked up as they were. I don't think the message is do whatever the fuck makes you happy, exactly. More like, the unexamined life is not worth living.

actually i think the point of life is to do whatever the fuck makes you happy lol

Funny you should be posting this now... been doing a lot of thinking about poly and open relationships and how it will affect or impact on my spawn. So far it's well hidden, but there may come a time when it's not.

I think it's far easier for babies born into an existing poly relationship, as opposed to bringing them in later on in life. But what do I know??? I haven't done it yet.

That's actually an interesting point. I wonder if it would be easier to merge kids into this type of relationship or for them to be born into it?
