I haven't kept up with this thread -- my loss.Sarojaede said:One of my former students--whom everyone calls Cavey--from several years ago and whom I now consider a friend got married 6 months ago. Three weeks before his wedding, his finance, now wife, was diagnosed with cancer--Leiomyosarcoma.
He contacted me tonight to tell me that the cancer has progressed to her lungs and she is now hospitalized and on her third type of chemotheraphy. The odds are apparently not in her favor except that the doctor is encouraged that she isn't getting sicker now that they have started this third type of chemotheraphy.
Apparently, Leiomyosarcoma is also a cancer that typically attacks the elderly, so the doctors are also somewhat encouraged that she is relatively young--33.
I'm just at a loss at the moment for how to even offer him comfort.

BTW, I'm living proof that weighing next to nothing at birth (32 weeks and 4 lbs or thereabouts) will not prevent one from growing up to be a successful wiseass later in life.
