Philly was fun last night. We had a decent cheesesteak and beer. Then headed to the venue about a 20 minute walk away on South Street.

I had never been to this place before, the club was called Nikki Lopez.

Great punk rock club. Two stories: the bottom floor was the main bar and a few pool tables. There was a DJ who was spinning unbelievably great classic punk rock tunes. Chelsea, menace, the violators, tubeway army, the lurkers, sham…

It was as if I was the DJ, or he was reading my mind.

The bands were on the second floor. Small, intimate venue. Maybe only 50 or 60 people there, which is too bad for the bands. First opening band was excellent, middle band, not as much.

The Effigies, were amazing! Great, guitar driven sound. My buddy from Pittsburgh has been wanting to see them for 30 years. (they’ve been breaking up and reforming periodically… ) And interestingly, the effigies just spent two weeks opening for the black crows (???) of all bands.

Anyway, they kick some ass and we’re super approachable and we bought them a few rounds at the end of the night. Man, those guys could talk!

It was a late one.

Us and the effigies. ⬇️
Another approachable and friendly band: the punk rock ethos and credo!

44 years ago. December 4, 1981…

In My Eyes is Minor Threat's second EP, released on Dischord Records.

It featured Out Of Step, a track that has become the unofficial anthem of the straight edge movement.

Released on this day in 1973: Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade.

Get ready for bad teeth and bad hair and bad outfits!

Today also marks the day Darby Crash died in 1980.

IMO, this was the first hardcore song.

I had seen the Buzzcocks supporting Stiff Little Fingers in Belfast, (with the Damned and the Defects) in August 2018, so news of Pete’s death a few months later was a sad surprise

I had seen them a few times as well towards the end the end of his life. 2017 ish in NYC at Irving Plaza. Then maybe 2018 ish at punk rock bowling in Asbury Park.

One of the greats. He is missed terribly.

Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood is the second full-length album by The Misfits, released on this day in 1983.

The Misfits are fucking ridiculous but they did have some great songs.

The Jam played their last-ever gig as a band when they appeared in Brighton, England, December 11, 1982.

I never got to seem them, but seen Weller a few times.

Likewise never saw The Jam but saw Weller solo and Foxton playing with SLF and From the Jam.

I’d have loved to see SLF. Sigh.
You still can!

Saw them maybe on 2018 or so. It was before Covid. They have dates in England currently thru Christmas.

I think they were in the US not too long ago.

Seen em a few times. When they play attentive ulster was chilling and then insane when the bad kicked in.

Was lucky enough to see The Jam live a few times, Newcastle City Hall 80 & 82, Carlisle Market Hall 81, and Whitley Bay ice rink on their farewell tour 82.
Absolutely brilliant.

My favourite band i can not get enough of, have all their albums and seen them 3 times live in the last 4 years each on their UK Tour. They are 3 real sisters from Monterry in Mexico. They simply rock!!! 🤘 i included some live footage

I have not heard of them. Liked the video. They look and sound pretty badass!

Saw them at a local festival last year and they definitely got the crowd’s attention

I don’t know. Once I saw the business at a certain point and it was just like ehhhh we’re ALL too old for this

I know what you mean but I’ve seen SLF multiple times over the past 40 years or so and they can still put on a great show full of that original emotion and power.
