Punk rock, Hardcore, Oi!, Garage, Metal, Ska, Indie, Power Pop, Northern Soul (and whatever else) Discussion and Anarchy thread

I don’t know. Once I saw the business at a certain point and it was just like ehhhh we’re ALL too old for this
To me it’s like a drug. To have loud music going right through my body…

Plus some bands can still bring it.

Of course everyone’s different and feels differently about things…

But I get it, there’s some bands. I really don’t need to see again.

But others that I do!

My wife and I are seeing Jesse Mallin this weekend. He was part of the New York hardcore scene in the early days, although I never saw his first band, Heart Attack.

I did see D-Generation several times. Much more of a rock sound but I really liked them and Jesse’s always been a friendly and approachable guy.

This song sums up, trying to get back to Jersey from New York City!

And he has been stricken with a rare back stroke making him almost unable to use his legs. But he’s out there still playing! Albeit with a much more Americana sound. I think this one an alt country award of some kind. Lucinda Williams produced it.

Oh totally.
I think part of it is not wanting to be around teens who don’t know anything about the scene. Seeing agnostic front in basements is very different than whatever happens today.
These damn kids!!!

Entirely into the new PLOSIVS record! Have you caught it already @Wonderer67?

I love their production style, always like a wall of guitar and vocals in the chorus.

I know of the band, but I must admit that I don’t own anything by them. This sounds like a good strong sound.

I like! And will be on the lookout and listen out for more!

Feel free to post more songs… by this band or others

I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to recapture that feeling of punk rock in the 80s and 90s when there were actual scenes and Word was by word-of-mouth and zines. (Remember scene reports?)

Speaking of agnostic front and basement shows, I promoted a show with them and some hard-core band from Indiana in 1985 at the Polish American club here in Central Jersey. Total fucking mayhem.

And my wife and I saw agnostic front and Murphy’s law earlier this year. My wife broke her rib at that show…. And she’s pushing 70!!

She’s a tough broad.

It was fun, and a good throwback crowd. I would say most of the audience were in there, 50s! 😂

Jesse Malin show was excellent.

We started at the wonderbar watching army/navy. I am a veteran and was wearing an army cabalary hat so they let us stay as the bands there did their sound checks. Kinda metallic/hard rock but both bands were good.

After army lost (😞)we walked to the stone pony. Danny Clinch was the opener and the band was like a 70s bar band. I mean that in the best way. Full horn section, three backup singers - it was a full stage. I felt like I was seeing J Geils band or Southside Johnny or Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels or something.

Jesse was helped to the stage (he’s unable to use his legs) and do a great set. More rock n roll than punk, but they played a clash cover (Rudy don’t fail) and a kinks cover (Father Christmas) and a bunch of songs from Jesse’s solo albums. He’s a helluva singer/songwriter, tells a great story and a good entertainer. Great show and a great night.

Stayed overnight at Asbury Park because we drank way too much and it was supposed to snow, which it did.

46 years ago today - December 15, 1979, London Calling was released on CBS Record.

Also today is Paul Simonon’s birthday. Born on this day in 1955, Brixton. Motherfuckers 70 years old!

I wear both on my sleeve!

Two sad death days…

Hats off to Terry Hall who passed three years ago.

And to Kristy McColl who passed 25 years ago.

I acquired 2-3000 45rpm records this week. Most of it is shit: lame country, pop and rock from mid 70s -mid 90s.

I think the person owned a jukebox company cuz there were a lot of figured and math and jukebox inserts.

But there were a couple of cool records I found in my first two boxes.

But also found a promo copy of this gem. I hadn’t heard it in years, but it’s a great song.

The Records - Starry Eyes

I only went with Punx-atawny cuz I went there last year for Groundhog Day. (It was pretty fun).

Cool band name for a bad from England and not central PA. EDIT - the name of the band is Snide and album is called Punks-atawny

Some of the songs kicked ass. (Right place wrong time and one other)

DYrt Birds were good too.

I’ll have to listen to a few others. Thanks for letting me know abt this great label.

And merry Christmas!

In December 1982, the bad brains played three straight nights at CBGB’s including Christmas night.

It was a little bit before my time, the first time I was there was early 1984. Definitely, the roughest venue I’ve ever been to…

Bad Brains - Big Takeover on December 25, 1982

Happy 2026 to all ya filthy animals.

See ya in the pit, moshing, skanking, doing the windmill, pogoing, headbanging… whatever it is that gets you off musically.
