my wife does the socks-mismatched thing too. I've seen her wear two different colors, two colors almost the same but not, or even the combination of a regular height sock and an ankle sock at the same time. Sometimes she even has the heel on the top of her foot! That would drive me insane....my socks have to be perfectly matched, with heel in the proper spot.

I don't just wear mismatch colors.

I have a wife so nothing that I absolutely must do is ever forgotten. My children are also quite skilled at reminding me of promises made that may not have been kept just yet (hmmm....wonder where they picked up that nifty little life skill?).

As I age (and I've been doing quite a bit of that lately), I find that I can no longer recall trivial details quite as smoothly as I once did. What was the name of the film in which I saw this actor last? I occasionally find myself in a room with little clear knowledge of why I went to it in the first place. Example: I went to the kitchen recently to make coffee but opened up a can of dog food instead. The dog was a tad confused, but at least I didn't dump the dog food into the coffee maker.

Now, to be fair about it, my family is actually slightly pleased about this because it used to rile them that I rarely forgot anything trivial. What little memory loss I've experienced is negligible. And the other matter is really a case of being more easily distracted than I used to be. It could be age or it could simply be a deep need for the end of winter and the beginning of golf season. :D

How good is your memory? Do you find that as you get older your memory starts to fade? Can’t remember things like you use to. Do you use any little tricks to help you remember things?

My memory is still doing pretty well, but I've noticed myself making lists more and more.

Where I've noticed a big difference is more like what Yank mentioned. I'll open the refrigerator and completely draw a blank as to what I was looking for. And I find myself searching for the right word every now and then. The other night I asked MrB to replace the lightbulb in the garbage disposal. Of course, I meant the overhead light fixture, but that's not what came out! I got a very strange look.

I have to keep my memory because MrB's memory is just awful. I'm always reminding him of everything.

if you want to make a good effort to retain your memory and mental skills, do your best to not fall into a routine. always try to vary your day and do new things. another thing that can help a lot is to challenge your body by doing things like brushing your teeth with your recessive hand. puzzles, any kind that make you think (crosswords, anagrams, word math, etc.) are fantastic for this as well.

I have notice in the last couple of years that my short term memory is not like it use to be. I have to write everything down. If it is not written down, then it’s not going to get done. I will also use word association to remember peoples names. Like others I can go into my bedroom and forget why I went in there. My long term memory is not as sharp as it use to be either. I have a hard time recalling some information.

One reason I think I have trouble with my short term memory is that I am busy, so many things going on in the mind. Need to remember to do that and this, just too much noise upstairs.

EJFan- I have heard that before using mental game sharpens the mind. I think I need to start to do some.

OH CRAP, you take the fun out of everything. But mind games would be so much more fun and I think more challenging. :D :D

Like you, I have to write notes, but I've been doing it since I was young-in my 20's.

Two years ago I made a list of 7 greeting cards that I needed to get. I walked into Hallmark purchased 4 of the cards (mother's day stuff), proceeded to check out without even taking out my list because I was soooooo proud of myself. It wasn't until I returned home later that day that I realized I neglected to get the 3 most important cards for my nieces' graduations. I've never felt like more of a dumb ass.

Why are you all on so late, usually by now most of you have turned in for the night, not saying it's a bad thing btw. :)

Hi quoll :)

The night is young here! Even though, I have been exhausted lately and definately need to bank up on my beauty sleep!

Scaly, I beat you and already took the dog out for the night! ;)

First, I must say, great av quoll!

for the last few weeks I've been waking up early to get some work done, which naturally leads to going to bed early. I've been trying to stay up later this week....so I figure this is about as good a place as any to spend my time. plus, i'm stalling on getting up and taking the dogs outside (it's about 20F here right now-i'm not even going to attempt a conversion)

-7c or frickin cold, yeah well what else would you be doing, how's the new room working out?

new room is great. we only put 1 bed in there though...so you'll have to fight EJ for it.
