Actually Buddhism is a bit out of place in the survey as it is not a religion, but more a philosophy.

Catalina :rose:

It's a philosophy with institutions, so it is a religion of some sort.

Don't belong to an organized religion here, my beliefs are mainly about morality, and the survivial of society, chaos & static, etc. (points to sig line). As for my spiritual ones, nobody is ever going to hear them, not until I can find some material proof of them, which I doubt I ever will. Until then, they stay out of the material world.

General polls are good for seeing how many unique visitors the board is getting in a day. I'm surprised there are 28 already. Guess we have a good many lurkers.

I was raised pagan, in a goddess-worshiping environment, but with a little bit of "other" thrown in from different religions... So I would say I was raised loosely pagan.

Right now I consider myself somewhat spiritual, but it was hard to decide what to put down in the poll. I went with "Spiritual but not religious" even though I keep a wicca-type altar and occasionally do spells/rituals (rarely, however.) I still say "Blessed Be" at the end of my prayers (when I remember to pray) but this is because I grew up like that. To pray and not end that way would seem wrong. I've actually tried, and can't fall asleep until I at least say the words in my head.

With my background, it has been hard for me in the past to come to terms with my inner sub. Perhaps if I were a lesbian I would have had no problem with it. :D But at first it was horrifying for me to admit I wanted from a man the things I want.

I think I've gotten over myself alot in the past few months though. I is what I is, and that's all there is to it. ;)

YinandYang: Sounds like we are in a similar boat. :rose: :)

Religious? God, no. ;)

(besides, all the demons that whisper in my ear in my head all say that Satan has already returned.....and her name is Martha Stewart)

I hate that athiest and agnostic always get lumped in together. They are so NOT the same thing!

In case anyone was wondering, I'm agnostic.

I did wonder what people who are orthodox would answer... neither catholic nor protestant.

(Survey questions are never perfect, I know.)

By the way, having relations who are Buddhists, I think it can qualify as both a religion and a philosophy. You don't construct many temples to philosophy, after all.

Damn... Nobody ever regards the Scientologists. :(

Ok, I see now what you mean by "postwhore." I went back to the bdsm talk main table of contents just now and saw, "Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie, Brinnie...and even more Brinnie." Maybe you you are just interested in a lot of things? ;)

I got involved in Scientology when I was 14. Breaking away from them was extremely hard, even though I was barely involved (couldn't really afford to be at that age and a fast-food job). They laid one hell of a guilt trip on me. So I've read the books. The polls only allow you to list ten things though, so I think he went for the really major (well-known, long established) beliefs.

The way it was explained to me at the temple I used to attend, and the yearly gathering of the various Buddhist schools of thought was it differed from a religion in that Buddha was not a God, nor did Buddhism attempt to win blind faith instead encouraging people to find their own path and belief. The extension of the belief everyone has to find their own path is that every living being has identical Buddha nature and can achieve enlightenment, and share the potential to themselves become Buddha's. It is very much a spiritualism which promotes the ability of the individual to direct their path through their own actions and senses more so than relying on prayer to a God to grant them their nirvana and forgiveness. Where in traditional religion you can hope for forgiveness if you pary hard enough or redeem yourself in some way, in Buddhism it is a cause and effect philosophy whereby every action good and bad counts and will bring about the appropriate outcome. The monks explained it as more a learning than a religion and I think what they were perhaps saying is much the same as the Dalai Lama says in that not only do most religions and faiths resemble each other in basics and each have their place and use, but that the world could survive without religion but not without spirituality.

Guess this link explains it better than I. What Is Buddhism?

Thank God I'm an atheist....

Regarding Buddism, I would point out that most texts on comparative religions do list the system as one of the world's "great" religions.

In addition to a life philosophy which has some admirable features, there is an involved eschatology that involves one's "spiritual journey" after death and all.
Many sects have involved rituals and practices as well.

Hard to make any blanket comments, there are many different sects as is the case with all religions.

I am christian, but, have'nt attended my church for over a year. Been a christian for 30 years and was sstill having trouble with life and my marriage. Then lo and behold I discovered BDSM and my marriage is great and I am peace with the world. It is as if I have learned my place and proud of it. I know there is a God, and that there is a place I feel safe and happy and BDSM has filled a place that church never did and I did'nt know it needed filling. Life goes on. slave c

Yeah I know exactly how you feel, it sometimes feels strange to have these desires of wanting to be controlled, and at the same time feel the 'free spirit' thing. My partner is pagan too, and we talked alot about how this fits in with our beliefs. I think we eventually came to the whole female goddess/male god way of looking at things. Honouring the feminine and mascualine (all be it in a drastic way LOL). Sort of like going back to the cave man thing! I think thats why at the moment I couldn't live the whole 24/7 thing, although worshipping someone you love isn't a bad thing, as long as there is equality there somewhere. Also respect too, he respects the strengths I have as a woman and I respect his strengths as a male. I don't have a huge urge to cross those bounderies. So, I suppose the BDSM aspect of it, leaves me feeling very feminine, and him feeling like the most powerful man on earth...balanced I think ;)

All in favor of adding BDSM as the 11th religion in the survey, say "Aye!"

buddhist, yep...although its true, its not really a religion. I'm spiritual and meditate and that type of thing, it helps me stay focused so i can remove all worrying and other mundane stuff from my mind and concentrate solely on my daydream/fantasy world...we can't have things interfering with that now can we?

AYE AYE Sir Winston. I enjoy being on my knees worshipping ????? Oiling your floggers? Does that help? Can you tell Im a newbie? submissively slave c

Probably because the question was religions.
Ooh, harsh. That's pretty extreme sunfox, then again I've not heard too much about scientologists, and what I have is bad.

Yeah. I'm not known for my acceptance for certain groups... in particular groups who have killed children by refusing medical treatment for them.

It's a character flaw I'm prepared to indulge.. I have more important ones to work on. :D

Lol, like I've said, I don't know much about scientologists, I also wouldn't advise you work too hard on that one. (you need to work on your dommeliness ;) )

I'd like to have a nice little sub around to pick up the dog poo sometimes, it's true.

Oh wait. That's my job.

*grump*
