my ltr parter & i switch with each other, so we have both been tied down & blindfolded. due to breathing problems on both of our parts, we don't gag so i can't give any opinion on that.

anyway, when i'm tied down (with or without blindfold), it's very intense... knowing that whatever she wants to do to me, she can do... and knowing that she won't ever do anything to hurt me (the trust factor is very very important here). all the sensations are hightened when i can't see what she is doing.

when i tie her down, i usually blindfold her, and i also tend to have music going to distract her from whatever noises i'm making, but no headphones (they get in the way in my opinion, cuz one of my fav things to do to her when she can't stop me is lick her earlobes ). i love knowing that she trusts me enough to let her do that, plus i like to watch her squirm as i tease her with light touches, etc. i know she enjoys this as much as i do, which is why we continue doing it.

i guess my advice to you would be to try it once or twice (if you haven't already) and see if either of you get anything out of it.

This is exactly the same way I feel when my partner has me tied down. I hate being blindfolded... as I want to look at my partner and hopefully she is wearing something kinky and leather.. Early in the thread there were brief mentions of head phones (total ear coverage) and ear plugs. Would someone please discuss the pros/cons of each in relation to sensorary deprivation and keeping the bound partner yearning for stimulous?

I use earphones cause those little ear buds pop out at the wrong time. My subs wriggle and writhe a lot when I am, "torturing" them.


And covering the ear, has a better, more complete effect. I try to create the effect of being taken away from reality covering the whole ear makes it a more complete action. (IMHO)

I think Phantom of the Opera appeals to women more than men. And I usually pick music that I like, rather than music my subs may prefer. It is a control thing, I think.

What is mind-blowing for me is that sensory deprivation is 100% mental. Using it changes what's going on tremendously. For me, it's always been positive. Total deprivation, well, I've never done that longer than an hour. I'm not sure I'd want to go too long. Probably make you panic after a while.

But, not being able to monitor your surroundings is one big head trip. I don't think I've been deeper into subspace than when this happens. wow. Sometimes just being in that condition is good to last me a week emotionally. Very satisfying.

Oh, and that hood you gave an example of, that's one I've wanted. Not too expensive, lightweight.

Total deprivation, well, I've never done that longer than an hour. I'm not sure I'd want to go too long. Probably make you panic after a while.

I know there are Dom/mes out there who use it for more than an hour, but I personally think that you have to work up for over an hour. I rarely go over an hour with one of subs. In fact the first I time did it, he watched him closely and found that he became agitated after about 1/2 hour. I then took the earphones off, (leaving the gag and blindfold) and he settled down immediately.

You really have to be careful with this, and since I am by no means an expert, I err on the side of conservatism.

Sensory deprivation is a technique used to torture people, so it pays to be cautious.

The control aspect

I have read a lot of the posts, and I have noticed that some who have talked about what they like and their preferences.

One of the main control aspects I use is that I do not consider the preferences of my submissives.

Does that sound cruel? I assure you it is not. After all, my submissives have safewords or safe signals, and I have a detailed checklist that tells me if something is problematic and/or is a hard limit.

Part of the excitement for my sub is knowing he is not in control, and that I will do what I want. The level of trust is such he has the assurance that he will not be injured. but is there is a small kernel if doubt, it is exhibited by excitement and antcipation.

He is helpless to stop or control what is happening to him. My male submissives likes the uncertainty.

I would say the momentarily most comprehensive form of complete sensory deprivation are the "float tanks", you know - floating in a high concentration saline solution, complete darkness and silence .

In BDSM it might be tight bondage so your moevement is gone - blindfolds, your sight is gone, ear plugs or a headphones to take away your ability to hear ... you catch my drift.

Those can be used singularily or in combination, turning the submissive into a stae of "not knowing", helpless surrender and surprise use of the remaining senses like feeling of the skin.

Probably not a very elaborate description but I hope that explains.
