I make pumpkin bread (very similar to cakes and muffins) with a cream cheese glaze. Yummy!

I personally don't care for pumpkin pie or PSL's, I prefer sweet potato pie. This pumpkin bread is the only "PS" thing I enjoy this time of year.

An excellently prepared carrot cake is still delicious. I'd rather have that than a chocolate cake 90% of the time.

Controversial opinion: if carrot cake wasn’t decorated with cutesy frosting carrots, it would be indistinguishable from pumpkin cake.
Orange vegetables?
Cream cheese frosting?
Same damn spices?

I do like them both though. (Not as much as chocolate, obviously!)

Carrot cake exists because people didn’t always have sugar. We have sugar now. Just saying,

Same with red velvet, which was originally made with beets! Also, some Italian grandmothers swear by using only finely-shredded carrots to sweeten red pasta sauces, and Jod help you if you pour sugar in the pasta in their presence!

I’ve never come across rhubarb anything. I would try it at least once, but definitely not motivated enough to go out of my way to seek it out. I’ve heard conflicting reports on whether or not strawberry rhubarb pie is good, but like…strawberry pie without rhubarb is already good, why risk ruining it?

(Also, I’ve never encountered huckleberries or mulberries either.)

I just picked up some fresh huckleberries this weekend. I am going to try my hand at huckleberry scones. My ex made great scones. I think I stayed married to her for an extra seven or eight months for her scones alone.

Seriously, if you want to see the worst food episode of all time, watch the Bake Off do Mexican Week. Peeling the avocado wasn’t even a top 5 offense in that episode.

I haven’t either, that I know of. I did get knocked out by a nasty virus from November 2019 to February 2020, before we *knew* C19 was in the states, but it was. Ex-BF got it too, but it hit me harder because of my crappy immune system. He thinks it was C19, but based on the symptoms, I don’t think it was. At the time, C19 testing wasn’t a thing, and Urgent Care only tested me for flu, which was negative. Medical record just said “viral syndrome.” When C19 antibody tests were available months later, I tested negative for those too, but it’s entirely possible they would have faded by then too. Will never know for sure.
Since *knowing* about the existence of C19 though, I have been extra careful and not caught it.

My dad used to put shreds so you actually bit into a piece of carrot. Also, walnuts and crushed pineapple. It was completely different from a pumpkin cake. I understand that isn't usually the way carrot cake is made though.

Spice cake is pumpkin cake without pumpkin.

I love this course style cake. Super good. I will say I stop anymore with just cinnamon - not just with carrot cake but also if I am required to provide the orange pie. It's not that I dislike cloves or allspice but I keep hearing feedback, "oh this is "lighter" tasting" haha Sigh. I miss smoking cloves.
