Snippetsville: General Discussion

I concur with Quasi's concurrence with one exception. There needs only to be one editor (whoever) or it becomes circular and deadlines get missed.

Gauche

I'm with Gauche and Quas, sounds like a plan that will work (famous next to last words).

Thanks, Sweet One, for this and more,

Perdita :rose:

this post copied from the Accept/Decline Thread for your information

okey dokey to give some guidance here.

Quasi said: Finally, I am not certain that this Editorizing by vote is the best idea .

I think one person should be responsible for picking 3 - 4 stories, requesting what changes they wish, and placing them in the sequence that seems best to that Editor.

Here is my intention.

1. Put up the 4 stories so all authors can read and accept or decline.

2. Those stories that are accepted (simply on the basis of fitting into the Snippettsville ambience) are then gone through with a fine tooth comb by the Editor (me).

3. Any that need alterations will be posted with my suggested alterations into a 'proofreading' thread on the SDC.

4. The author will go back and edit the original version on the Story Thread. (this will have priority over everything else as the stories are needed to be corrected quickly for submission to the Issue)

5. The author will PM me that the corrections are complete and then the story is back in the queue for submission to Issue.

6. I will combine 4 stories all by differing authors for each Issue.

7. I will pass them on to Alex and he will do the html thingeebobs and submit them formally to Literotica.

Request Only Open To All Snippettsville Group Authors

I am looking for an interesting and suitable piece of artwork to be included with the Snippettsville Group Issues.

This piece of artwork will go onto the top of each and every Issue that is published on Literotica.

If you are interested in producing something that will show Snippettsville ambience please let me know as soon as possible.

I am thinking along the lines of either a span of the main street, or perhaps a countryside setting with a farmhouse... I would like a reader to open the latest Snippettsville Issue and be confronted with our very own artwork.

I have emailed with Laurel on this. Her requirements are:

1. The artwork needs to be an original piece of work and we need to ensure that copyrights will not be violated by it being used here.

2. The art work needs to be 530 pixels wide in order to fit within the width of the span of the story box.

(I am PMing all SG authors with this same posting).

Artwork

I have received a PM from BlackSnake regarding artwork. :)

Anybody else interested?

Posting the picture here was fine BlackSnake, wow you work fast! I like what you've done! :) Excellent touch writing the last population figure in. :)

In jon.hayworth's story 'A Stranger Rides into Town' on page one of the 600 word story thread, he states the population as being 2006. Is it possible for you to change your '3' to '6'?

Gosh, seeing a picture sure makes Snippettsville real.

I look forward to seeing other author's artwork contributions. :)

Changing from 2003 to 2006. Sorry, I'm doing this from work and not home.

Nice one, BlackSnake

Like the sweet one said, suddenly Snippettsville is becoming real.

a general reminder... serious

Please ensure that you keep a copy of your own up-to-date Character descriptions in a safe place.

Then, if anything should happen to your own computer or to Literotica, you will still have a record of your characters.

The virus hit two of the servers in my office before I knew it. It's actually a worm and there are two of them.

If you are running Windows XP, 2000, 2000 Server, or 2003 Server you do not have to do anything like recieving and opening an email to get it. It exploits the operating system itself without the user having to do any action such as opening email or starting a particular program.

I'm sorry, I wasn't referring to the particular email virus. However, don't open emails with the subject lines listed in the article. If your email program, such as outlook is set to open emails as you select them change your settings, so it won't do that.

Dear Snippettsville Group Authors,

This posting is to let you all know exactly where I’m at with SG work. I'm aware there seems to have been a great gap between the creation and the submission of Issue 1 and want to let you all know what's been happening.

I am acutely aware that by sending you PMs, I may be considered as 'spamming' you. I don't wish to do that and now hope you all see my signature line as I update what's going on. Please let me know if you have sigs turned off. You won't know what's happening otherwise.

SG Authors to date:
MathGirl, PierceStreet, wildsweetone, BlackSnake, perdita, Alex De Kok, Couture, Quasimodem, gauchecritic, jon.hayworth, Wantonica, sailorm72003, champagne1982.

Proofreading:
Over the last week or so, I’ve been proofreading stories (33 so far) from the 600 word story thread and placing them into the Proofreading thread for each author to go through. Please don’t expect me to remind you to look in there, try to take a few moments and check to see if your story has arrived. Now that I’m going through in a more orderly fashion you’ll be able to guess when your story is likely to come up for mention.

Accept/Decline:
I have now caught up with the Accept/Decline thread and would respectfully request that any authors who have a spare moment zap through and help out with reading 4 stories and give your thumbs up or thumbs down on them. (2 authors for each group of 4 stories is all that’s required.) It’s a lot of work for just a couple of people to wade through and as there are 13 of us, I feel the job could easily be shared. Please help if you’re able.

Bio:
The Bio is being updated by Alex to include all SG authors with links to homepages. I see the SG Bio as part of the SG advertising and hope this gives each author a boost with their other writing on Literotica. :) Thanks Alex!

Maps:
Alex has changed the order around in the ‘sticky’. The maps are further down the page. They are looking awesome!

Artwork:
So far we have seen artwork from BlackSnake. Couture, Wantonica and Alex De Kok have all indicated they would like to provide some artwork. Closing date for this is next Tuesday evening (NZ time). I have seen and chosen one piece of artwork for the end of each Issue. I am now awaiting options for an appropriate piece for the top of each Issue. It may well be that we use a different piece of artwork for each Issue. That will be decided next week on Wednesday (NZ time) and I will post to the General Discussion thread my decision.

Issue 1:
Alex and I have been working toward getting Issue 1 ready. Alex has spent a lot of time fiddling with the nitty gritty of the codes etc in order to have a standard 'template' that future Snip Issues will follow. He's had to put up with a lot of my fiddling and requesting tweaks as he's been doing it and for his patience and care I'm very thankful. :)

Here is a list of the 4 stories for Issue 1. This list is non-negotiable. The stories are sitting now in pre-submission line awaiting only the artwork. A lot of effort from authors and Alex and I has gone into this initial set-up and listed below is the final decision upon the first ‘bundle’ of stories worked through last week.

Issue 1
Introducing Molly by PierceStreet
Kindred Cunning by wildsweetone
Hannah and the Jammer by MathGirl
Every Cloud by Alex De Kok

Stories
It’s great to see more stories being added to the 600 word thread! Well done there everyone. :)

At this time of posting I am awaiting an email from Laurel. I hope to receive it in the next day or so and will post again.

Thanks for putting up with the delays and thanks too for understanding the fiddling that's going on in the background. Take care everyone and above all Keep Writing!

Two minutes in Paint Shop Pro!

I showed the pic here to WSO and she has encouraged me to share it. It's a friend's model railroad. Originally a colour photo, I changed it to greyscale and then posterised it. Hope you like it!

Alex, I like it very much. Bravo! Can you paint a special wall for my character to shag her boy against? Maybe brick for good traction. ;)

Hello everyone!

WSO, please don't throw me in the dumpster if I don't answer your PMs, I am having a rough time with moving my showroom, equipment breakdowns, blah, blah... never give up on this gal, though. I've been writing my bits with pen and paper; even went to a taxidermist with my guy to get a fish mounted and racked the man's brain to learn his art for story material. Nice pic, Alex! I plan to take my camera to my town and make the photos as anonymous as possible, but you're gonna have to wait until I get my STUPID machines fixed. That will cost me an arm and a fuck (just kidding on the latter).

Hugs to all,
Wantonica:rose:

Alex, I was kidding, but that's great. Love the steps too, you've inspired me, truly.

Tom Holt's office

From correspondence received, it has become evident that Tom Holt needs an office. Current thinking is as follows:

When the railroad closed the Snippettsville depot following the abandonment of passenger services, the good folks of Snippettsville were on the lookout for office space for their Police Chief. The depot was inspected. It had an office, a waiting room, male and female restrooms and a baggage room.

‘We can use this,’ they said. And they did.

The office became Tom Holt’s office. The waiting room was converted into an open-plan office housing Tom’s factotum, Jennifer, and with desk space for the deputies. Desk space was also available if needed for visiting liaison officers from State Troopers or Highway Patrol. The restrooms retained their former function, and the baggage room was converted to provide two holding cells, kitchen space and archive space.

The Police Chief’s office is therefore to be found on Map 3 of Snippettsville, building #3 on that map. There is, of course, plenty of parking space.

An interior plan will be provided if anyone thinks it necessary.

I'll add this to the Settings database unless anyone comes up with a better idea.

Alex

Here's a watercolor of Snippetsville I did. I usually work in oils, but it would be several weeks before the paint would dry enough so I could scan it. I dug out my old el'cheapo water color set and painted this up.

Couture, that's very fine; I like the style. Gee, WSO and Alex, can we use them all?

darn.

*giggling*
ps Have you got that camera out and working yet? I want to see your photos for the SG Issues please. :)

Seriously, I'm sitting here grinning from ear to ear. What a fantastically talented/gifted/creative group of people we are!

BlackSnake, Alex and Couture you have done the SG proud!

I agree up front with perdita, I think the artwork we have should be rotated for each Issue if at all possible. I will PM Alex so he can get the ball rolling during my night. :)

Thank you all for taking the time and making the effort to produce the art. Please, if you'd like to provide more, so long as we don't infringe copyright and the art meets the 530 wide pixel requirement for Laurel, then send in a new picture every now and again.

:)

Hello everyone! *Smiling a bunch, thankful to be here*

WSO, I've taken photos, but my download program is down. Heck, so is my printer, modem, ahhhhh, it is driving me insane. Well, it does say I live in insanity beneath my AV. Suppose I cursed myself? Actually, my shop, which is located in a historical building in a small city, was struck twice by the forces of nature lately, and I just shake my head. Hear it rattling?

Alex, your pics remind me of the riverfront in Savannah, Georgia. Lovely place, hope to retire there, running a bed-and-breakfast in a haunted mansion. Perdita, you can come shag my guests. Woohoo!

Hugs to all,
Wantonica:rose:

Wantonica I was going to say 'get a man in' instead I'll say 'get a professional in dear!' ;)

Beg, Steal or Borrow somebody else's pc and download them! lol Blast from the past I'm now humming.

Hmm I think I just recognised the limitations of this wonderful invention called the internet. There is no rush now but can you scan or is that the download program you were referring to?
